Text: 1Corinthians 3:11 A foundation is the base of a house. Special attention is given since the quality of a foundation always affects a str ucture. Wise builders see to it that the foundation is built according to the specification of the architect. We hear in the news, espec ially in Africa, that structures that stand tall and have been adorned outwardly suddenly collapse. When building professionals investigate the cause it is always that the foundation of the structure was faulty. Salvation of the soul of man from the state of depravity comes through Jesus Christ alone. Knowledge of the Scripture, Jesus or religious activities in itself cannot save man. Ch aritable deeds, good morals, though good in themselves cannot save. Neither can service in any assembly or church. Not even fasting and prayer can substitute for the atoning work of salvation. May I also let you know that no Priest, Ra bbi, Pastor, or General overseer can save any man! So be sure that your f aith is built on the sure foundation, Jesus Ch rist and nothing else. He is the living cornerstone of Gods church, which we become a part of when we put our trust in Him. Prayer point: I thank You, Lord, for the revelation that nothing else ca n be a substitute for You in my life. I therefore stand on the solid rock which is Jesus Christ. Memory verse: That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God. (1Corinthians 2: 5) Ap plication: There may be need to review what the foundation of your faith is and be sure Jesus takes his place in your life.

WAT C H W H AT Y O U U S E O N T H E FOUNDATI ON
Text: 1 Corinthians 3: 12-15 Jesus alone is the sure foundation on which to build our Christian faith. How we build on the foundation is consequential. You may note in our text that three of the materials used (gold, silver, and precious stones) will endure heat and are costly. The other three materials (wood, hay and stubble) are rea dily available and easily combustible. It sure takes some effort and time to build. Building with quality materials will assure a reward, and it will be a sorrowful state to see others end up without reward because they have decided to use whatever they find for construction. It is a disservice to God and His kingdom if we decide to do whatever pleases us, serve Him whenever we want, however we want, and care less if others are served or not. Christians sometimes choose to go to church once a month, not because they have work or are tied down by anything they must do, but they choose to stay home to do laundry or sleep. There will be a Day of Reckoning. This is the day when the owner of the Building, the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, will come and inspect. What type of material you are building with and how does your building look? Those who build with enduring material and precious stones will be saved just like escaping through the flames. While I have heard different explanation of this verse, the truth remains: whatever burns in the flame is not the material to use. Prayer point: Father, in Jesus Name, help me to make the right choice of material as I daily build on this sure foundation. Memory verse: That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God. (1Corinthians 2: 5) Application: Chose a more costly, rewarding material to lay on your founda tion (who is Christ) today. Give your best to the Lord; Quality Assurance in a necessity for great reward

Text: 1 Corinth ians 10: 1-12 Thank God for His mercy and unmerited favor that brought us salvation, and for the accomplished work of redemption through the death that Jesus suffered on the Cross of Calvary for you and me. Those in this dispensation of Grace are implored to be careful and learn from others who ignored Gods warning. Liberation in Christ is no automatic protection against Gods judgment. The common experiences and blessings enjoyed is no guarantee that if a Christians choos e to live careless lives, they are immune to Gods judgment. The Israelites enjoyed divine guidance when they passed through the sea ; they were divinely protected. God gave them a spiritual leader on the journey, sp iritual meat and they drank from the same spiritual rock that followed them, but they refused to honor God in their lives. Many Christians can relate to these experiences of enjoying Gods goodness. He is so faithful. We have the Bible and spiritual leaders who feed us with the Word. Let us watch out to be sure that we remain steadfast doing His will. Gods standard against sin has not changed. Prayer point: Father, in Jesus Name, help me not to handle Your love and grace carelessly, b ut to abide with You all the way. Memory verse: That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God. (1Corinthians 2: 5) Application: Resolve daily that you will serve the Lord faithfully as long as He gives you breath.

Text: Romans 8 vs. 3-8 (NKJV) At a wedding, two men were talking. One of them was the father of the bride. In their discussion, the issue of why alcohol was not served at the wedding became a very hot topic. The father of the bride told his friend that he is a child of God and he has been delivered from drunkenness. His very good friend could not understand what has happened to his friend who used to go to the club with him, and get drunk. He then replied him and said Who is not a child of God? When the moment of temptation comes, do you brag about who you think you are? You have indeed been set free from the law of sin and death. The Son of God, even Jesus Christ has paid the price for you. He has come to give you life and peace. It suffices to agree with the Scripture that those controlled by the sinful nature cannot please God. I have yet to meet a parent who lavished all that they own on a child, made themselves available to assist the child and yet still happy to see the child ruthlessly, and carelessly waste these gifts . I b elieve such a parent would be disappointed. So God is disappointed when we take this grace for granted. Let the world see Christ in you as you go about your daily living today. Do not live your life as one in the flesh without the spirit of Ch rist ruling and leading your heart and your ways. Prayer point: Lord Jesus, give the grace to live a life that pleases You from today on. Memory verse: That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God. (1 Corinthians 2:5). Application: Think of one sin in your life that you have the greatest struggle, with determination; pray about it, explaining your struggles to the Lord, and purposefully avoid whatever makes you commit the error. Change direction.

Text: 1Corinthians1:17-21 It is disheartening how the Good News is handled today. Some share a form of good news, but they testify about plenty without piety. They testify about the Savior without the salvation of their soul. They testify about their church without a relationship with the Lord of the Church. They testify about every thing but the regeneration of their soul and transformation of life that results from acknowledging and accepting what the cross of Christ symbolizes. On the cross, Jesus Christ paid the penalty for the sins of man, the guiltless in the place of the guilty. The Bible says in Galatians 3:13 that cursed is he that hangs on the tree. Man was cursed when Adam and Eve disobeyed God. But Jesus did not sin. The Good News is to acknowledge and receive the truth that w e all have sinned and fall short of Gods glory. We need the blood of Jesus that was shed on the cross to cleanse us from all wrong doings. Prayer point: I pray in Jesus Name that the purpose of the cross will be fulfilled in my life. Memory verse: That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God. (1 Corinthians 2: 5). Application: It is at the cross that the plan of salvation was consummated. Appreciate and proclaim this truth everywhere you go.

Text: 1Corinthians 2:10-16 Hu manity consists of the believer who ha s the indwelling Ho ly Spirit and the unbeliever who has not allowed the Spirit of God to dwell in them. It is by the revelation of the Holy Spirit we know that our sins have been freely forgiven and that we are the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus, and joint heirs with Him. If we yield and allow Gods Spirit to lead us, we can live to please Him. If we ask anything in the Name of Jesus according to His will, He will grant our request. This truth is so difficult to believe for men who do not have the Spirit of God. It seems foolish to them. They sometimes ask, Who gives anything freely? Some may even tell you if it is free it cant be good enough for them. As such, many struggle with receiving salvation so full and free but desire its blessings. Jesus is waiting for those who will yield their lives to Him so that He may dwell, lead, and guide the m so much that their lives may be enriched. Prayer point: T hank you, Lord Jesus, for making me know that You are willing to dwell in this body of clay, come into my life and abide with me always. Memory verse: That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God. (1 Corinthians 2: 5). Application: One without the spirit of God is earthly and not wise. If you are born again, allow the Holy Spirit to counsel you today and if you are yet to r eceive Christ, confess Him as your Lord and Savior today so that the Holy Spirit can be your guide.

UN I T Y I N C H R IS T JE S U S
Text: 1 Corinthians1:10-16 It is said that managing human beings is about the most difficult task, even in Christian circles. Division is likened to a disease; it can easily kill any church if it is not nipped in the bud as so on as it is sensed. Sometimes leaders still have challenges managing people of God because of the different levels of spiritual maturity. Many, if they were in Apostle Pauls shoes, would have flaunted and paraded themselves as better than others, In fact, some cunningly parade themselves to attract followers. Let us be careful not to get involved in whatever may hinder the progress of Gods work. The churchs foundation is Jesus Christ. We all must endeavor to be united as members in the body and be careful not to allow selfish ambition or anyone to lure us to causing segregation in the assembly. God is jealous watching over his Church that he died for; we must point people to Christ the Lord of the Church. Let us unite to serve Christ and Christ alone. Prayer point: Father, help me to always lead or point men to Jesus Christ and not cause division in your Church, in Jesus Name. Memory verse: That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God. (1 Corinthians 2:5). Application: Whenever suggestions are made to you to dishonor your leader, move away from such people because they are distracters. God is not the author of confusion.

HE I S T H E LO R D O F G L O RY:
Text: Hebrews 1:1-9 How many of you have made a statement like, The sun is so beautiful today or proclaimed, What a beautiful sunset? The truth of the matter is that no human being would be able to directly view the sun and live to make such a statement. The sheer intensity of the heat and light would kill you before there was direct visual contact. What we see when we claim to see the sun is only the radiance or radiation from the sun from about 93 million mile away. In todays devotional we are reminded of the SON of God and that Jesus, Who is the visible expression of the invisible God, is also the radiance of God the Father. As the sun is superior to and more radiant than every other light or star in the heavens, so is Jesus more superior than even the angels of God. But this is not all; the most profound statement in our text comes in verse eight when the writer declares about Jesus, God the Son, Your throne O God Yes, Jesus is God, He is eternal and ever existent. Jesus is the voice of God in our time. Next time you enjoy a beautiful, bright and warm day and you are able to lift your eyes in the direction of the sun, thank God the Son, who radiates the glory of God the Father, who we can not look upon and live. Prayer Point: Father, thank You for sending Your Son as the expression of your glory and radiance. Thank You for speaking to us through Him and revealing Your love and forgiveness to us. In Jesus Name, Amen! Memory Verse: The Son is the radiance of Gods glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven. (Hebre ws 1:3) Application: Worship the Lord Jesus as God, Creator, and Sustainer of the heavens, earth, sea and all that is in them.

Text: Colossians 1:15-17 Many people who know my father tell me I look like him and have many of his mannerisms, even down to the way he walks. I am truly a spitting image of my father. Our daily devotional text today confirms the same fact about Jesus Christ; He is the image of the invisible God. God the Father, who is Spirit, wanted to share Himself with His creation and so He gave His Son, Jes us Christ. Through Jesus, everything in the world was created, things visible and invisible. He is the first to rise from the dead to live eternally, nevermore to die, like all who believe in Him will one day also do. Finally, Jesus is the Head of the universal community of all believers, past, present and future. He is preeminent in everything. There is none greater than He. As believers, we accept all these facts about Christ, He is Lord of all, but have you made Him your Lord? Prayer Point: Lord Jesus, I believe that you are God and Creator of all and that you are above all. Thank you for creating me in your image and thank you for counting me worthy to be part of your body, the church, Amen. Memory Verse: The Son is the radiance of Gods glory and the exact repre sentation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven. (Hebrews 1:3) Application: Give Christ praise in the church and everywhere, for He is Gods very image.

Text: Revelations 1:8-20 Many people believe in ghosts and are afraid of these spirits of people who have died. What would you do if you saw a ghost? In our devotional today, Apostle John has an encounter, not with a ghost, but with the risen Lord, Jesus Christ himself, in His glorified state. The Lord identified Himself to John as He who lives, and was dead, and I am alive forever more. To prove to Joh n that He was no ghost, the Lord placed His right hand upon John and spoke to John saying, I am the first and the last, Alpha and Omega. This was the most unique title Christ gave himself. Because He conquered death and holds the keys, all who believe in Him will also conquer death. No more do you need to fear because Alpha and Omega has conquered death and has authority over death. If you do not know Jesus Christ, the Alpha and Omega, the One Who holds the keys to Hades and death, invite Him into your life and you too will have power over death. Prayer Point: Lord Jesus, you are Alpha and Omega, the Beginning and the End. Thank You for conquering death and Hades for me. Thank You for taking away every fear associated with death, in Jesus Name, Amen! Memory Verse: The Son is the radiance of Gods glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven. (Hebre ws 1:3) Application: Are you still uncertain about what will happen to you after you die? Are you afraid of death or the unknowns associated with death? Believe in Jesus Christ and you will conquer all these fears.

Text: Philippians 2:5-11 In Greek mythology, the chief of the gods, Zeus, remained on Mount Olympus and rarely left his seat of authority unless it benefited him somehow or he left to punish someone for wrongdoing. Ze us never acted against his personal interest, and definitely never humbled himself to benefit a mortal. Such a thing was beneath him. In our devotional today we encounter Jesus Christ, the incarnate God of the universe. Christ was God Almighty in the flesh. But so great was His love for man that He lowered Himself to come to earth in the form of sinful man, to humble Himself to the eternal plan of the Godhead to redeem man back to Himself. He had everything in Heaven but gave it up to subject Himself to death on a cross so man can be redeemed back to God the Father. What a God Jesus is! As Christians, we should be thankful that Jesus is our God, not any myth or idol. Jesus took His divinity and dressed it in humanity so that we could one day be humanity dressed in divinity. What a mighty and loving God we serve! Prayer Point: Father, in the Name of Jesus Christ, thank You for giving up so much for me to be with You forever. In Jesus Name, Amen! Memory Verse: The Son is the radiance of Gods glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven. Text: Isaiah 6: 1-7 On Tuesday Ma y 31st, the NBA finals will begin, matching the Dallas Mavericks against the Miami Heat. One of the highlights of this championship series will be that Lebron James (aka King James), the 26 year old and current best basketball player, will have an opportunity to crown all his basketball glory thus far with a championship ring. In todays DA, Isaiah has a heavenly vision of the Lord as the King of glory. The interesting nature of Isaiahs vision is that He first observes his own degenerate, sinful state, in need of cleansing. Once Isaiah realizes his sinfulness in light of Gods holiness, the Lord cleanses Him and commissions him. Jesus is the true King of Glory, has always been and will forever be king. As Christians we should know that our God is King and do not have to win or compete for his throne or to validate his Kingly authority for He is the King of glory. Prayer point: Lord Jesus, thank You for being the undisputed King of Glory. Thank You for being holiness personified and for cleansing me of all my sins. In Jesus Name, Amen! Memory Verse: The Son is the radiance of Gods glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand o f the Majesty in heaven. (Hebrews 1:3) Ap plication: Acknowledge the Lords glory and holiness. Text: John 1:1-18 One of the greatest riddles or mind benders of all time is the old riddle Which came first, the chicken or the egg? The greatest minds have tackled this apparently simple, but infinitely looping riddle without success because it is one that has no end or beginning. Although the mystery of God is one that has been hidden from before time, God has decided to not keep man in the dark, or on a mind-bending quest regarding His will and plans. In our daily answer today, Apostle John s ets out to reveal the mystery that the One who created the world and the One who became flesh by being born of a virgin, are one and the same. The Eternal Word, who was and is the agent of creation, is Himself, as Isaiah put it in the Old Testament, The Mighty God, Everlasting Father. It is only through Jesus Christ, the Eternal Son, that man receives the power to become children of God. As the creative agent of the Godhead, it is in Him and through Him that God the Father is creating a new humanity. As Christians, we must thank God that He has decided to reveal to us though Jesus Christ, the greatest mystery that has been hidden in Him; that Jesus is the source of light and the new life. Prayer point: Heavenly Father, thank You for revealing Yourself to me through Jesus Christ, through whom all the worlds and everything in it was created, Amen! Memory Verse: The Son is the radiance of Gods glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven. (Hebre ws 1:3) Application: Thank God daily for giving you the living Word to save you and for giving His written word to guide you and to be light to you.

Text: Isaiah 9:2, 6-7 Recently we had predictions from a person commonly referred to as a doomsday prophet. This prophet predicted the world would come to an end about a month ago. However, we are all still here, living by Gods grace and mercy. His prophesy did not come to pass. Todays Daily answer brings us into contact with prophet Isaiah as he prophesies about 750 years before the birth of Christ about Christ, Christs office, and some of the titles Christ would hold. Isaiah speaks of Christ as a great light to those who are in darkness. He accurately predicts Christs birth and acknowledges Christ as Mighty God, Everlasting Father, and Prince of Peace. If you are in the dark about God, if you are questioning whether God cares for or loves you, Jesus Christ is the light that God has se nt to deliver you from this darkness. If you do not have peace in your life, He is the Mighty God and Prince of Peace who has come to bring you peace. If you are an orphan or do not have a father, He is the Everlasting Father who will never abandon you. If you are stressed, depressed and dont know where to turn, He is the Counselor you need. He has come to be you all you need. To the Christian He is all we need. Prayer point: Heavenly Father, I thank You for being my Counselor, my source of Peace, for being a Father, for being my Mighty God. In Jesus name, Amen! Memory Verse: The Son is the radiance of Gods glory and the exact repre sentation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven. (Hebrews 1:3) Application: Begin to see Jesus as everything you need.

Text: Mark 9: 3 3-35 So many people are plagued by envy, jealousy, pride etc. Obscurity does not make a leader humble rather humility is the make of a great leader. Humility can co-exist with celebrity. According to our text, Jesus asked His disciples what they were arguing about on the road. They were silent because on the way they ha d argued about who was the greatest. Jesus told them If anyone wants to be first, he must be the last and the very servant of all. Again, James and John came to Jesus to ask Him to grant them a position on His right and the other on His left in Heaven. Jesus simply told them that it is not His to grant. Notice that Jesus did not discourage their ambition to be great instead He challenged them to see greatness as revolving around humility and service. Prayer point: Lord, give me the grace to serve You and others in humility. Memory Verse: Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth (2Timothy 2: 15) Application: Begin to put the needs of others before your own needs. Text: Matthew 8:18-21 Only in the house of God do people believe that long time membership qualifies one for a leadership position. Character and ability to perform should be the hallmark of adopting people into leadership position. Great leaders are eff ective at what they do. They model excellence. When Jesus chose His twelve disciples, He did not choose everyone that wanted to follow Him. Instead, He chose people who are qualified for the task He was hiring them for (John 1:35-39). Some He turned away. The desire to be a leader is good but until Holy Spirit confirms such it is not adequate in itself. I remember running into a sister who asked me what position do you hold in your church? I told her none and her reply was I cannot belong to a church for that length of time and not be in the leadership position otherwise I would leave. People should not be made leaders simply because they have been with a chu rch for x amount of years. Rather, character, ability and effectiveness should be put into consideration as we select leaders. Prayer point: Lord, equip me with all I need to serve You. Anoint me for service with Your Spirit. Memory Verse: Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth (2Timothy 2: 15) Application: Serve with spirit of excellence

Text: Philippians: 3: 4-14 Ac cording to the dictionary, awareness means knowledge, conscious, mindful etc. When one adds s elf to awareness, it becomes self-awareness which means knowing who you are. Self-consciousness means knowing how you come across to others, etc. Pauls statement in Philippians 3:5 shows how self-aware He wa s: circumcised on the eighth day, of th e people of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, a Hebrew of Hebrews; in regard to the law a Pharisee; as for zeal, persecuting the church; as for legalistic righteousness faultless. Paul also knew what he was after in life, The prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. Since leadership is about managing relationships, self understanding is the key to being an effective leader. Have you come across leaders who though are great at what they do, but do lose control of their emotions easily? Lashes out or throws a temper? We know the story of Joseph. Have we ever wondered what would have happened if Joseph fell in all the temptations that were hurled at him? He was mistreated by his brothers, Pharaohs wife accused him of inappropriate sexual relations, the butler forgot him in the prison etc. Joseph had every reason to be angry, bitter, wallow in self pity, and revenge towards his brothers but his response showed a mastery of emotions and expectations. His self-discipline allowed Egypt to prosper in a time when every one else was in famine. His success was as a result of his self-managed life. Prayer point: Lord, help me to be able to control my emotions and keep my cool in the midst of chaos. Remember the apostle Paul had to go into the desert to clear his mind after his Damascus experience; an event that gave him the opportunity to revise his theology and life mission. Moses had to change his leadership principle after being counseled by his father in-law Jethro. A great leader often takes stock of things in his life and ministry to see what works and what doesnt. Text: Mark 1:35-38 Great leaders understand their life assignment; they know what they are about. They do not define themselves by their position or roles rather by what they are intending to accomplish or the mission they are on. Example they will say, I am working to change this or I gave my life to the cause of that. No matter what role they take on, they redefine it to fit their mission. Their mission determines their activities. They do not chase after the wind; they are focused individuals. Jesus understood His mission. Early on in His life, He would get up while it was still dark and went to a lonely place to pray. Peter and His other disciples went to look for Him. When they found him they said, Everyone is looking for you! Jesus response was to go somewhere else so he could teach. Jesus knew people were desperate for Him and yet He turned away from them. He understood that He had to get the word out throughout the region versus stay in one region. Prayer point: Lord, help me to understa nd Your plan and purpose for my life. Memory Verse: Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth (2Timothy 2: 15) Application: Seek to find out what your call in life is and follow after it passionately.

Text: Matthew 16: 13-16 Decision making is hard. While some leaders are quick and impulsive about decisions; some cant seem to make up their mind. For others, the last input they receive concerning a matter seems to be the determining factor in their response. Making good decision requires a leader to ask the right kind of questions so they he can get the right answer. It requires that leaders spend more time thinking beyond the presenting problems and looking deeper to see the real issues. This tends to push great leaders towards God. They are not just telling God what they want Him to do for them, but rather asking His view on the situation. This allows the leader to develop the discipline of stillness before God. When Jesus asked His disciples, Who do people say that I am? and Who do you think that I am? He was trying to gauge how His message was coming across both with the public and with His close associates. If Jesus went to great lengths to gain good information; what about us humans? Prayer point: Lord, give me the wisdom that I need to ask the right kind of questions that will enable me to make good decisions. Memory Verse: Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth (2Timothy 2: 15) Application: Practice asking the right kind of questions and partnering with God in decision-making.

Text: Luke 1:5-45 Have you ever wondered why Zechariah was struck dumb while Mary was not? Both asked how the miracles God promised would be accomplished, yet it was Zechariah who was punished. The Bible gives us insight into what the difference was between the two: Zechariahs questioning was coming from a place of unbelief (Luke 1:20) and Marys questioning was rooted in faith (Luke 1:45). Sometimes in our lives God makes promises to us that are beyond our imagination. Because we are limited by human understanding, it is easy for us to question how God will accomplish these promises. There are times when it is okay to question God, but the motive behind o ur questions is what determines how God will respond to us. The best answer to Gods promises for our lives is always, Lord, let Your will be done. Any other response that expresses doubt may delay that promise be ing fulfilled or us truly enjoying the moment when God does what He has promised to do. Prayer Point: God, may Your promises to me be fulfilled. Forgive my unbelief and strengthen my faith in You. Memory verse: I am the Lords servant, Mary answered. May your word to me be fulfilled. Blessed is she who has believed that the Lord would fulfill his promises to her! (Luke 1:38,45) Application: Commit to memory at least 7 memory verses on faith. There are times we all have moments of doubt; recalling Gods word can help counter those moments.

RE L AT I O N S HIPS : B E G IN
Text: 1 Samuel 18:1-4 Relationships (family, friends, romances, work colleagues, etc.) play a key role in our lives. The people with whom we choose to surround ourselves often determine the quality of our lives. So, what do we do with the various people who cross our paths every day? Were meant to either Begin, Maintain, or Refrain when it comes to relationships, and we need to pray for Gods wisdom to know which one to do. BEGIN There are people God will bring our way that He means for us to begin relationships with. Those relationships may not always be what we desire; those people may be the very last people we ever thought wed be in a relationship with. A few examples: 1. My best friend is a girl I met freshman year of college. We are complete opposites, but just get along great. If I had stuck to my initial impression of her, we would never have become friends. 2. Sometimes, especially for us ladies, we use lists and criteria to determine our mate instead of using Gods leading. If Id stuck to my ideal of a clean-shaven man, Id never have ended up with my gorgeous full-bearded husband (I actually get upset now when he does shave!). 3. Almost all my work mentors have been older, men in executive positions and I believe their presence in my work life, due to Gods favor, has been the reason Ive had the great opportunities Ive had.If you always stick with people who look, talk, and behave like you, you may be missing out on great opportunities God has planned for you. Prayer Point: God, when You send people my way who are destiny helpers, please dont let me miss them or overlook them. Memory verse: I am the Lords servant, Mary answered. May your word to me be fulfilled . . . B lessed is she who has believed that the Lord would fulfill his promises to her! (Luke 1:38,45) Application: As you feel Gods leading, step out in boldness and reach out in friendship to people who may be different from you.

RE L AT I O N S H IP S : MA IN TA IN
Text: Hebrews 13:1-8,13 MAINTAIN There are people weve developed relationships with that we sooner or later start to take for granted, and this shouldnt be so. It most often happens with husbands/wives and family members. We spend less and less time with these people who have been there for us through thick and thin and assume the strength of the relationship will be maintained; it will not. A relationship is like a living organism: what you feed grows; what you starve dies. Value the people in your life who have truly been a blessing to you: send a card/email saying you appreciate them, set aside couple-only nights if youre married (budget the babysitter into your monthly budget or take up friends offers to watch the kids), pray for them whenever they come to mind, celebrate their joys with them, and be th ere for them through the tough times. Inevitably, as we all go through different phases in life, we lose touch with old friends. But if someone really made a positive impact in your life use modern technology to stay in touch even if there cant be a face-to-face connection. You dont know when youll have a chance to be a positive influence in their lives maybe even leading them to Christ. Prayer Point: God, help me not to take for granted my relationship with You and those you hav e placed in my life to be a help and blessing to me. Memory verse: I am the Lords servant, Mary answered. May your word to me be fulfilled . . . Blessed is she who has believed that the Lord would fulfill his promises to her! (Luke 1:38,45) Application: As mentioned in todays text, if there is a family member, friend, church member, etc. that has been a blessing to your life at one time or another, reach out to them in appreciation today.

Text: Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 REFRAIN Whether you like it or not, there are people in your life right now that you have to ge t rid of or limit your contact with them to the absolute minimum. It really takes the help of God to break off relationships that are not working for you without causing unnecessary drama, especially if family members are involved, so ask for that wisdom. So, who do get rid of? 1. People who make you compromise your walk with God. If every/most of the time you spend with someone ends up in you sinning, you have to get rid of that person. No ifs, ands, or buts. If youre sleeping around, cursing, gossiping, putting others down, etc. when you spend time with someone, this person does not need to be in your life. When Judgment Day comes, you wont be able to blame anybody for where you e nd up, but yourself. 2. People who harm/kill your dreams/destiny. Do you have people in your life who every time you tell them something good they just have negative things to say? People who complain all the time and only see life as drudgery? These people will tell you things are too hard, you are not qualified, you a re not connected, if they struggled, you have to struggle too, etc. Really, why would you want these people around?!! They are not the ones you share hopes and dreams with! So really seek Gods face if theres a relationship you need to break off. It takes Gods wisdom and help to know exactly which people to develop relationships with and which ones to hold back from. Prayer point: God, help me to refrain from people and relationships that are not part of Your will for my life. Give me wisdom on how to end relationships that I need to. Memory verse: I am the Lords servant, Mary answered. May your word to me be fulfilled . . . Blessed is she who has believed that the Lord would fulfill his promises to her! (Luke 1:38,45) Application: Today is the day start the process of breaking the relationships you need to break so that Gods will can be accomplished in your life.

LE T T I N G G O O F PA S T H U RT S
Text: Matthew 6:12, 18:21-35 There is a quote that says, Love is unbearable where there is no forgiveness. When Jesus told Peter, in essence, that forgiving someone has no limits and should be done no matter how many times someone hurts us, we have to remember that He was speaking from exp erience. He knew the pain that results from holding on to anger when we are wronged by the ones we love, and He doesnt want us to experience that. When Adam and Eve sinned, when Israel sinned, when Jesus was crucified for no real crime, when an unbeliever rejects the saving grace of the Gospel, God feels the hurt and pain of being rejected by people He loves. Like us He gets angry. But unlike us, his anger lasts only a moment, but his favor lasts a lifetime (Psalm 30:5). Gods love for us overcomes the anger and hurt he feels, and he always seeks to reconcile with us. He knows that to love without forgiving is simply impossible. The offense of the one we love hurts less than the separation from that person. Love compels us to forgive. Its not easy to do, and it may not always lead to reconciliation r ight away, but we have to emulate Jesus and just do it. Prayer point: God, forgive me for being unforgiving, let Your love for me compel me to love and forgive others. Memory verse: I am the Lords servant, Mary answered. May your word to me be fulfilled . . . B lessed is she who has believed that the Lord would fulfill his promises to her! (Luke 1:38,45) Application: Communication is the first step on the road towards forgiveness and reconciliation. If someone has wronged you, ask them to sit down and talk with you about the offense and your desire for reconciliation.

A JO Y F U L L IF E
Text: Psalm 16:9-11 Christians should be the most joyful people on earth, and yet to look at some Christians, youd think life was all doom and gloom. Yes, we are to be sober minded, but it does not mean that we cannot have fun and enjoy the goodness of life that God gives us. We more than anyone else should see God at work every d ay and delight in it. A rising sun, the colors of a sunset, the sparkle of the sun on water, the laughter of a child, the company of good friends, and many more things that make life enjoyable are the pleasures that we enjoy because we choose to be in the presence of God. Countless studies have shown that having a positive attitude or outlook on life can have beneficial effects on physical health. The same is true for spiritual health. Maintaining a joyful spirit helps us stay focused on G od and not our problems; it helps us stay trusting and hopeful that Gods promises will come to pass in our lives. One of the tricks of the Devil to get Christians down, and to keep them down, and steal their joy. We can counter this by surrounding ourselves with words and music of praise , and being deliberate about noticing and meditating on the good we see around us every day. The more we do this, the more we experience the pleasures that are available to us in the presence of God. Prayer point: God, restore unto me the joy of Your salvation and help me to continually delight in your presence. Memory verse: I am the Lords servant, Mary answered. May your word to me be fulfilled . . . B lessed is she who has believed that the Lord would fulfill his promises to her! (Luke 1:38, 45) Application: Spend at least 30min this week listening to uplifting praise and worship music that helps you delight in Gods presence.

Try to imagine the attention a sick adult person gives to the doctor as he is explaining what is going on or instructing how to get healthy or take prescribed medications. Thank Go d for our doctors, but these are men th at are still fallible. No w try to imagine someone studying the Bible or sitting in churchtexting, tweeting, on the phone chatting or sleeping. Ho w can someone really get the best that God has for them at such times? Prayer point: Help me not to be too familiar with the Word that I will stop paying attention to it. Memory verse: Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ. Text: 2 Peter 2: 1- 3 Your biological age has little to do with spiritual matters; the point at which you yield your life to Jesus and confess Him as Savior and Lord you become born again. Many remain so long in the same spiritual state becaus e they equate it with their years on earth or how long they have been in the church. Some even take pride in the fact that they were part of the founders of some church when obviously they need to grow in grace. The exhortation in todays passage is if indeed you have experienced the Lords kindness, unmerited favor and have the assurance that you are saved, there must be a wish to be fed in the since re Word of life. Even new born babies cry for their mother s milk. Only hungry minds can grow, and it is Gods will that His children grow. Those who have tasted the loving kindness of God are also admonished to avoid all actions or behaviors intending harm anywhere in any form to any one, avoid deceit and stop pretending to be good. Do not covet the possessions that belong to other people and also do not destroy others by speaking evil of them. All these vices hinders spiritual growth. Prayer point: Thank you for your loving kindness towards me. Get me hungry and thirsty for you and your sincere Word. Memory verse: Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the full measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ. Text: John 7: 16-18 Many people are out in the world with a myriad of ideas they want people to buy into. Some are covert; others are so forthcoming with theirs that they seem irresistible. However, many of these ideas tend to take our focus away from God and lure us into idolatry. I was in a gathering where someone with all boldness and pride said, Thank God in our church we dont teach doctrines. I wondered then what the gathering would be about? Todays text is straight from the mouth of Jesus Christ. He affirms that to mature in the faith, one must know the doctrines of God. We should be careful of those who would rather teach others their personal ideas than teach men the trutha way to honor God and help lead others to grow. Someone once said, We should not let our compassion override our convictions. As much as we need the grace of God to speak words that will build others up, nothing (not any other mans teachings, ideas, or techniques) can achieve what Gods inerrant and unfailing truth will do when men receive and believe the word of Life. Prayer point: Father in Jesus Name, make me a faithful servant as I continue in the truth and help me as I present the truth to others in love. Memory verse: Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ. PAT H WAY TO MAT U R IT Y 3

Text: 2 Timothy 3:14-17 The Apostle Paul charged Timothy to continue in the things that he learned from his Godly heritage and unpretentious faith of his grandmother and his mother. To grow in grace and maturity, there is need for diligence in following and pursuing the things of God. The inspired Word of God is to teach what is true, to check to correct and to guide in making right choices so that any one who claims to belong to God ma y become fully equipped to walk in the will of God. To ma ture in grace, no one can afford to neglect or ignore the source of Godly wisdom. It is by the inspiration of the Word, through the help of the Ho ly Spirit, tha t we get to the level of making the right choices in situations that are beyond us. We truly mature wh en we begin to realize we can only know up to the level we allow the light of the word to shine in the dark areas of our life. We truly mature when we turn to God with humble hearts to seek His help and grace to be obedient to his words. Maturity leads to loving the Lord with a ready mind to live for Him so we become who God wants us to be; false spirituality will only separate us farther from the truth while playing church. Prayer point: Father, in Jesus Name, hold my hand, help me continue in the truth I have learned and not to sway to falsehood. Memory verse: Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ. Ephesians 4:13 Application: Allow the light of the Word to shine into every area of your life.

Text: Matthew 4:8-11 Th e Yoruba tribe in Nigeria amazes me how religiously subjects would pay homage to rulers who claim to own the land and everything on it. Male subjects would take off their caps, prostrate face down in reverence, while female subjects would be on their knees in worship for as long as they were in the presence of the ruler so they could obtain whatever favor they desired of him such worship some give to other humans to move on in life. In todays text the devil sought the wors hip of Jesus in exchange to give like the practice in the world. Not so with our God w ho gives because of His love for us. Worship is the response of a heart of one who loves God and whose focus is on God. Worship ascribes the proper worth due to the Creator of heaven and earth. Th e more you focus on God, the more you will appreciate how worthy He is and that will help you to respond to His love. There is need for consistency in worship; to do it just on Sundays, seasonally or for a special event cant enrich any ones spiritual life. You must have a heart that longs for the presence of God; a place where you can open up to Him in appreciation for His unfailing love and kindness towards you. David Clarkson said, Soul worship is the soul of worship. Draw near to God with your mind, heart and soul. Youll begin to understand what President Calvin Coolidge meant when he said that it is only when we begin to worship that they begin to grow. Prayer point: Father, in Jesus Name, I appreciate You for who You are. I bow in adoration that You give out of Your love for me. Keep me faithful as I worship you. Memory verse: Till we all come in the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of God, unto a per fect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ. Text: Matthew 6:9-13 Prayer is the way to commune with God; a key that we all need to use as we continue this journey of faith. As we need air to breathe, so is prayer the breath of any who will walk vibrantly and victoriously with the Lord. The journey of faith is started at the point of salvation by prayer and can only be sustained to prayer. Many struggle and grow frustrated because they dont know how to pray. Christianity can only be lived vibrantly a s much as we allow God. Man cannot accomplish much in himself; there is need for total dependence on the author and finisher of our faith. Our dependence is what we express when we bow our knees before our Maker and Lord. The disciples had the privilege of walking with Jesus while He was here on the earth. They saw the need to pray and the Master taught them. Prayer is important for understanding the word of God. Keeping the Word cannot be done without help. But, through prayer, we can overcome obstacles, temptations, tests and successful in times of decision-making. Read about all of the patriarchs who trusted God and allowed Him in the affairs of their lives. Prayer can help us to be as victorious. Prayer point: Teach me, help me and lead me to pray, O Lord. Memory verse: Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ. (Ephesians 4:13) Application: To learn to pray, you must start praying.

Text: Matthew 16:24- 28 The Cross means so much to a believer. It was on the Cross that our Savior was crucified and our sins were paid for by the precious blood of Jesus. It was no fun for the One Who had no sin to bear the sins of us all, but He did because He wa s committed to do His Father s Will. Jesus said those who will follow Him must be ready to yield his all and allow Him to be their Master and Lord. To grow in the faith, a Christian must come to the point that his mind is made up and he has chosen to allow Christ to rule his life. Obedience to God is crucial to growth and that means a life of total surrender and yield, with the help of the Holy Spirit. Prayer point: Father, I give myself to You and I ask that You grant me the grace to follow in Your step. Memory verse: Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ. G I L D E D JA I L S
Text: John 8:31-36 In one of the most expensive areas of the city where I live, there is a jailhouse. The first time someone told me that this high-rise building right next to some of the most famous landmarks in the whole country is a jailhouse, I did not believe it. The outside of the building looks just like the ma ny luxury apartment buildings in the area, but obviously the reality of the people in those buildings are very different. There are many people walking amongst us who are living in gilded jails. The outside of their lives looks just like yours and mine, sometimes even better. They have the husband/ wife, the education, the house and cars, the 2.5 kids, etc., but on the inside they feel trapped. They are trapped by their insecurities, failures, sins, and even successes because they dont know God. Those of us who know Christ need to pray for opportunities to help these people become free by introducing them to Jesus Christ. The next time you pass by someone who seems to have it all together and the Holy Spirit prompts you to reach out to him or her, dont question why someone like them needs God or even assume they already know Him. He or she may be living in a gilded jail. Prayer point: L ord, make my spirit sensitive to those around me and their need to know you and be free. Give me the right words to say that will touch their hearts and help them see Your love for them. Memory Verse: Memory Verse: You expected much , but see, it turned out to be little. What you brought home, I blew away. Why? declares the LORD Almighty. Because of my house, which remains a ruin, while each of you is busy with your own house. Haggai 1:9 Application: Can you easily share your testimony or the Gospel message with someone? If not, take time to write out and memorize a message you can easily share in 5-10 minutes. SURRENDER ALL
Text: Romans 6:4-14 C.S. Lewis knew all about the struggle that comes with surrender. He fought it for a long time. But he eventually the truth of the paradox that you conquer all when you surrender all: The Christian way is different: harder, and easier. Christ says, Give me All. I dont want so much of your time and so much of your money and so much of your work: I want you. I have not come to torment your natural self, but to kill it. No half-measures are any good. I dont want to cut off a branch here and a branch there, I want to have the whole tree down. I dont want to drill the tooth, or crown it, or stop it, but to have it out. Hand over the whole natural self, all the desires which you think innocent as well as the ones you think wicked the whole outfit. I will give you a new self instead. In fact, I will give you myself: my own will shall become yours. Do you feel as though you have to be someone else to be a Christian? Like the paradox Lewis struggled with mentioned above, yes and no. No, in the sense that Jesus will accept you as His child exactly as you are. You dont need to clean up your act before you become a Christia n. However, Jesus loves you too much to leave you exactly as you came to Him. As develop and grow in your relationship with Christ and surrender your old self to Him, He will give you a new self born of Himself that gives you the power to conquer the sins that used to hold you captive and conquer the forces of the evil one. Surrender to Christ and you will win it all! Prayer point: Lord, I surrender my all to You. Help me to become more like You. Memory Verse: Memory Verse: You expected much , but see, it turned out to be little. What you brought home, I blew away. Why? declares the LORD Almighty. Because of my house, which remains a ruin, while each of you is busy with your own house. Haggai 1:9 Application: Surrender to God this day any part of your old life, before you came to Christ that you are still holding on to.

BL E S S E D BE T H E N A ME O F T H E LORD
Text: Job 1:1-21 The lyrics to a great worship song say: Blessed Be Your Name In the land that is plentiful Where Your streams of abundance flow Blessed be Your name Blessed Be Your name When Im found in the desert place Though I walk through the wilderness Blessed Be Your name Every blessing You pour out Ill turn back to praise When the darkness closes in, Lord Still I will say Blessed be the name of the Lord Blessed be Your name Blessed be the name of the Lord Blessed be Your glorious name Lets face it, all of us would prefer to continually enjoy the blessings of God and never have to face times of challenge or suffering. But the true measure of our faith comes in the challenging moments of life, not when we are rolling in abundance. If we praise God when all is well, that is good. If we praise Him when we cant see the light at the end of dark times, that is even better. Prayer point: Lord, help me to bless your name and keep the faith no matter my circumstance. Memory Verse: Memory Verse: You expected much , but see, it turned out to be little. What you brought home, I blew away. Why? declares the LORD Almighty. Because of my house, which remains a ruin, while each of you is busy with your own house. Haggai 1:9 Application: Create a compilation of worship songs that you can easily access during your day and use it to lift your spirit.

T H E FA MI LY L E G A C Y
Text: Joshua 24:14-18 One of the best visions I ever got of heaven was seeing my self and generations of my family members all praising the Lord God Almighty at the foot of His throne. I pray that the vision would be accomplished in the life of every believer. The greatest legacy a believer can leave in this world is that of salvation. Riches, respect, acclaim, education, ministry and many more are good things to have and pass on to future generations, but they all become meaningless if family members, especially ones children, are not saved. Children pick up on what we value not by what we say, but rather by how we live. Do we say with our mouths, God is number one, but then they see us giving God the most unproductive parts of our day, relegating the things of God as chores and duties to be accomplished rather than acts of worship? The way we model our Christian life is the exact same way our kids will model to their kids and so on. Parents top priority for the children of whom they are stewards should be the salvation of those childrens souls. Granted, no one can save another person or force someone to be saved, but we can create an environment where the things of God and living for God are the values that drive a family and it becomes easier for the Holy Spirit to do the work of salvation. Prayer point: Lord, let salvation be the legacy of my family. Me mory Verse: Memory Verse: You expected much , but see, it turned out to be little. What you brought home, I ble w away. Why? declares the LORD Almighty. Because of my house, which remains a ruin, while each of you is busy with your own house. Haggai 1:9 Application: Create a daily, or at least w eekly, fellowship time with your family.

LO R D S U R R O U N D S H IS P E O P L E
Text: Psalm 125:1-5 The Great Wall of China, which is about 4163 miles long, was built over 900 years with approximately 1 million people dying during the course of construction. The wall was to protect the people from enemies. In spite of the cost in time and of human lives, 30% of the wall remains standing today; the rest is in ruin. Some of the sections have been submerged over time by sandstorms, while others serve as a village playground or a source of stones to rebuild houses and roads. Unlike the Great Wall of China, the Lord surrounds His people not just for a season but forever. The secret to security and stability is to trust God. He will not let go of us. God does not enclose his people within ramparts and bulwarks, as if we are imprisoned. He makes provision for His saints to be safe as if they are dwelling behind strongest fortifications. We are like babies rocked gently in a cradle of His mercy and love. Verse 3 suggests that not only are those who trust God being protected from the effect of wickedness but they are also protected from its influence. What a security we have in knowing that our God is like a mighty mountain: a place of refuge. Prayer point: Lord, I thank You for surrounding me with Your presence, protecting me from my enemies. Help me to trust You more and more. Memory verse: Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the man who trusts in Him! (Psalm 34:8) Application: Commit to a life of trust in the Lord

LO R D RE S TO R E S H IS P E O P L E
Text: Psalm 126:1-6 The Psalmist in this passage did not focus on how Israel has been oppressed and held captive by their enemies, but on how God in His great power had delivered them. The song is about the joy resulting from freedom and restoration to their homeland. He mentioned the Lords doing four times in this short passage. Not once did he give credit to the peoples strength or vigor. They were intentionally thankful because they valued the deliverer. It is all about Him. Not only is God able to bring joy out of tragedy by restoring them to their position, He is also able to restore their possession. The little they have left in the form of seed will be multiplied to plentiful harvest. After we have been delivered from our sins and brought to the position of Gods child, we should take what we have (the Gospel message, the seed, the Word of God) and go into a lost world and sow it for the glory of God, trusting Him to take our few seeds and turn them into a mighty harvest for His glory. Another worthy lesson from this passage is that Gods faithfulness in restoring Israel from the land of captivity to their land is an assurance that believers will one day be restored to His presence and that day will be a day of laughter and singing (Amen). Prayer point: Lord, change every seed of grief in my life to a harvest of joy. Cause me to rejoice in Your restorative acts over my life. Memory verse: Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the man who trusts in Him! (Psalm 34:8) Application: Remember where the Lord found you, what He did for you when He saved you and joyfully share this as a seed for the harvest of another soul.

E X CE P T T H E L O R D B U IL D S T H E HOUSE
Text: Psalm 127:1-6 There two things that should interest us about Solomon the writer of this psalm. First, He was not a novice in construction projects; he built the house of God and a magnificent palace. Second, Solomon made many international marriages in attempt to build a secured home. He must have realized at a point that only God can build a house or a home and without Him, efforts amount to nothing. Solomon succeeded in building the house of God because he did it according to divine prescription and he failed in building a home because he did it as it seems fit to him. Go d makes things happen, we dont. When a project is finished, God enables the completion of that project. When a home (family) is built, God made it happen. God is the only reason we can do anything all things (Philippians 4:13). We must build all areas of our lives with God, because of Go d, and for God. This Psalm calls us to recognize and acknowledge that God is the true builder and we must do all in an attitude of humble dependence upon Him for our security at every level. God is not against human effort but wo rking outside of His will and trust is a Tower of Babel in the making. (Genesis 11:4-8) Prayer point: O God, the builder of spiritual houses, I pray that You keep me in alliance with so that my works and ways may be built not on sand but on the rock of Your Word. Memory verse: Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the man who trusts in Him! (Psalm 34:8) Application: Have you prayed about you next project? If not, ask the Lord for guidance today. If you have done so, depend on Him all the way.

Text: Psalm 128:1-6 There is a story about a father of five who came home with a toy. He summoned his children and asked which one should be given the present. Who is the most obedient, never talks back to mom and does everything he or she is told to do? he asked. There was silence, and then a chorus of voices: you play with it daddy! Unlike this father, God has enough reward to go round His children and all He demands of us is to fear Him. In Psalm 127, there was the building of a home and God adorns the home with bliss. The psalmist wrote that good family life is a reward for those who revere the Lord. We all seek a happy place where everything works together for good: a place of peace and tranquility. This peace insurance covers ones vocation, spouse, children, physical and emotional wellbeing and ultimately the community. The Scriptures teach that the happiness or blessedness of believers in a future life will be in proportion to the service of Christ in this life. Those who love little do little; and those who do little, enjoy less. (Charles Hodge). This blessing is not only for the future but also the now because those who deny themselves for Christ will enjoy themselves in Christ. There is happiness in living for Christ as a forgiven person. Reading the Word of God is a good place to sta rt seeking His will in order to follow His ways. Prayer point: L ord, let my life be enriched with peace and happiness and my home- a place of tranquility. Memory verse: Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the man who trusts in Him! (Psalm 34:8) Application: Assuming this is your benefit package; outline what is available to you as you walk with God.

T H E L O R D DE L IV E R S
Text: Psalm 129:1-8 The Psalmist and his people have being a subject of prolonged perio d of persecution but they were never destroyed. The repetition of the first verse demonstrates the certainty of what they went through while the word never shows their courage under such pressure. Verse three seems to be a foreshadow of what the Savior Himself had to endure before the crucifixion. His back was covered with cuts from the lead-tipped whip by which He was flogged. However, we also can say that: The Lord is good because the Bible says His suffering was for our peace and healing. Persecution is not pleasurable but often times it leads to dependency on God, ultimately resulting in divine preservation. The Psalmist did not act in his own defense; instead, he prayed to God and he brought the injustice before Him in honest prayer. This is what we ought to learn from him, bringing our pain to God without pretense is both acceptable and effective. We look back, see where we are coming from; and then look up to secure the future. They Lord delivers His saints then and He still do the same today. Prayer point: Father, cut all the cords used by the ungodly to bind me. Let me live to declare Your goodness as I see my enemies turned back with shame. Memory verse: Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the man who trusts in Him! (Psalm 34:8) Application: Take stock of ongoing insults and have an unabridged discussion with God about them.

Text: Psalm 130:1-8 Often times the Psalmists cries for help have to do with his need for deliverance from attacks from his enemies, but in this passage there is no mention of oppos ing forces. I believe his plea was generally for a deeper relationship with God and specifically for forgiveness which could be a hindrance to such experience. He acknowledges his state which was described as depth of despair and he is willing to wait for redemption with intensive expectation more than those who watch for the morning. It is comforting to know that God offers forgiveness and redemption not only to the Psalmist but to all who waits on Him. (Isaiah 40:31) The love and mercy of God that redeems is available to all of humanity, but it is the responsibility of the individual to acknowledge their despair and receive Christs work of atonement. In the words of Saint Augustine, Forgiveness is the remission of sins, for it is by this that what has been lost, and was found, is saved from being lost again. The grace of God has provided us hope, hence we can cry out to God; He will hear. He will raise us from the depth s of despair. Prayer point: Lord, help me. I cant make it without You. Help me to discover my purpose for living and forgive me of all that stand in the way of closeness to You.. Memory verse: Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the man who trusts in Him! (Psalm 34:8) Application: Are you in despair, empty or burden by your sins? Call on the Lord today. His forgiveness is accomplished, unconditional, undeserved and is for all who want

Text: Psalm131:1-3 Frank B. Kellogg was quoted saying, I know that military alliances and armament have been the reliance for peace for centuries, but they do not produce peace; and when war comes, as it inevitably does under such conditions, these armaments and alliances but intensify and broaden the conflict. No human or organizational reliance is sufficient to produce lasting peace and tranquility. In fact trusting in any other, including our own ability and judgment, equals pride and arrogance. We are not to make our business that which is Gods alone. It is just on Gods part that those who wish to be everything should end in being nothing. The main idea here is to approach God with an attitude of reverence; a still spirit and confident hope in His sufficiency. God is weaning us from pride and haughtiness, from desire for prominence and glory. He is weaning us to be servants, to be childlike, to be content. Spurgeon said of this Psalm tha t it is one of the shortest Psalms to read, but one of the longest to learn. But its worth the effort, isnt it? Prayer point: O Lord, as a parent weans a child, wean me, and then will I fix all my hope on thee alone. Me mory verse: Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good; ble ssed is the man who trusts in Him! (Psalm 34:8) Application: The question is: are we contented in the Lord or do we have our reliance on self, status or others?

Text: John 6:29-35 In the Bible, bread is symbolic as the sustainer of life. After Jesus fed 5,000 men with five loaves and two fish, the crowd came looking for Him. They were looking for Him not because of the miracle He performed but because they were hungry and He could feed them. And so, Jesus warned them not to labor for food that perishes, rather to work for food that leads to eternal life. The people asked Jesus to tell them the will of God. Jesus said to believe in the one whom God has sent because He is the bread from heaven, which not only sustains but also gives life. When the crowd compared the miracle Jesus performed to the manna in the wilderness, Jesus reminded them that it was God, not Moses, who is their sustainer. He also reminded them that after their forefathers ate manna they were still hungry. But, whoever will choose Him will not be hungry again. So, instead of seeking for bread we should seek for Jesus for it is only in Him shall our hunger be satisfied. Prayer point: Lord, thank You for being my sustainer and life. Teach me to keep my eyes on you, for you are the only one that can quench my hunger Memory Verse: If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as the scripture has said, streams o f living water will flow from him.(John 7:37b-38) Application: Feed on Jesus daily for your spiritual food

Text: John 8: 12-30 Light is the medium by which we see. According to the Bible, light cuts through darkness to unveil the truth. Light is also a symbol of Christ. We truly begin to see when we acknowledge Jesus is the Son of God, the image of the invisible God. Darkness, on the other ha nd, is a symbol of evil, sin and ignorance. Those who live in darkness are considered to b e confused and unable to see reality. It is our responsibility to follow Jesus and submit to His guidance and leading. He is not just there for us to gaze upon but we are to walk in Him for it is only in His light we can see. According to our text, when we believe in Jesus, we will not have to wander in the dark looking for answers and solutions that can only be found in Him. Jesus has answers and solutions to every problem we may encounter. Prayer point: Lord, thank You for being there for me especially when I dont know what to do . Grants me the grace to continue to walk in Your light so that I do not have to stumble in darkness. Memory Verse: If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as the scripture has said, streams o f living water will flow from him.(John 7:37b-38) Application: Allow Jesus to enlighten your path

Text: John 10: 1-11 A sheepfold is like a barn where goats or sheep retire to at night. It usually has one door or opening through which the animals go in and out to find pasture. In the Bible times, the shepherd guarded the flock at night by lying across this opening so as to protect the flock from thieves. There is a wall that has the tendency to keep us from God. This wall is sin. Sin always builds a wall between us and Go d but Jesus is the door that leads us back to God. In our text today, while the Pharisees threw the beggar out, Jesus led him into the Lords flock. Jesus is the door to our salvation; when we go through the door, we receive life and are saved. As we go in and out, we enjoy abundant life in the rich pasture s of the Lord. Prayer point: Father, thank You for the protection I enjoy in Your Son Jesus Christ. Thank You that because of Him I belong to Your fold Memory Verse: If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as the scripture has said, streams of living water will flow from him.(John 7:37b-38) Application: Do not allow sin to keep you from God

Text: John 10: 11- 15 Those who raise sheep know that it is not unusual for several flocks to be sheltered together in the same fold. Then in the morning, the shepherds come, call their sheep and assemble their own flocks. Each sheep usually recognizes the voice of the shepherd. Throughout the Bible, the people of God are compared to sheep--defenseless animals that are prone to wander away if not watched closely by the shepherd or owner. Jesus, being a good shepherd, willingly died for us, His sheep. According to our text, Jesus contrasted Himself to those hired to watch the sheep because they are paid to do so and quickly run aw ay when there is danger. The Pharisees, in contrast to the good shepherd, have no loving concern for the beggar so they threw him out of the Temple. But Jesus, the good shepherd, found him and cared for him. As the shepherd cares for the sheep, the sheep get to know him better. Prayer point: Lord, thank You for taking care of me and laying down your life for me so that I can have life. Memory Verse: If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as the scripture has said, streams of living water will flow from him.(John 7:37b-38) Application: Train your ears to begin to hear the voice of the good shepherd and follow after Him. Text: John 11: 25-26 When a person is physically dead, he or she does not respond to food, pain, o r temperature. Their soul is separated from their body. To be spiritually dead means the person does not respond to God and the things of God. Their soul is separated from their spirit. According to our text today, Jesus gave Lazarus life by the power of His word. He did it because He loved Him and because it brought glory to God. When dead sinners hear the voice of Jesu s and respond by believing and confessing Him as Lord, they are given eternal life. To reject the Son of God is to be dead for ever. The power to restore, impart and maintain life all reside in Jesus. The greatest miracle is not that Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead for he will die again. The greatest miracle is that Jesus was and is able to give eternal life to us who believe in Him. Prayer point: Lord, thank You for the endless spiritual life I have in You Memory Verse: If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as the scripture has said, streams of living water will flow fr om him. (John 7:37b-38) Application: Accept Jesus as your personal Lord and Savior if you have not already done so.

Text: John 14:1-14 Whenever I travel or am going where I do not know the way, I either print out direction from Map Quest or I use my GPS as I journey so that I will be able to get to my destination. According to our text today, Jesus calls Himself the way because it is only by accepting Him as our Savior can we get to heaven. Peter said in Acts 4:12, Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved. As we come to know Him, we are set free from guilt and shame from our sin. And it is only in Him we can find life. As He was to the prodigal son when he came to his senses and returned to his father so He is to us the prodigal of this age. In sin, He is the way by which we can return to the father; in ignorance Jesus becomes the truth by opening our understanding and allowing us to see reality. When we are dead physically, we are alive in Him. Prayer point: Lord, thank You for Your Word which sets me free from darkness. Memory Verse: If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing What Jesus is saying here is that He is th e source of strength and life to us. Text: James 1:2-15 In overcoming the thoughts that lead to temptation that lead to sin, you need to ask God to search your heart and reveal to you how your thought life is being affected in ways you may not know. We arent always aware of wha t we are thinking about. In fact, its possible to go through the day unaware that we are entertaining tempting thoughts. In the modern world we live in, we are inundated with media from all fronts that infiltrate our subcons cious and shapes our views and thoughts on a variety of things without us even knowing it! How many times have the images of wealth, sex, and even violence depicted on TV and the internet, in movies and in songs, and in ads that line neighborhood streets become part of accepted culture? And whether we mean to or not, as Christians, we have also let our guards down in certain ways as we conform to the worlds standards. Those conformities lead to seeds of unholy thoughts that will sooner or later sprout when watered by continuous exposure to these images, thoughts, and ideas that are not in line with Gods will. Not to blame everything on the evil med ia, we also have to consider how the people we surround ourselves with influence our thought life. If the people with whom we associate behav e or speak in ways that are sinful, sooner or later we will be caught up in their lifestyle without even realizing it (see Psalm 1). One of the key steps we need to take to renew our minds and thoughts is to be aware about what influences our minds. We must make sure we remove the negative influences while reinforcing the positive ones. Prayer Point: God, reveal any areas in my thought life that need to change. Memory Verse: Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life (Proverbs 4:23) Application: Commit to removing media from your home, work, or any area you have control over that you know influence your thoughts in ways that do not please God.

Text: James 1:2-15 Those who study the mind and human behavior tell us that every behavior is rooted in a reason; there are no random occurrences. There is a reason why we do what we do. Therefore, it is important to analyze why you are tempted. For example: You may feel like getting drunk because you feel depressed or hopeless. You may flirt or engage in sexual conquests because you are insecure or feel unloved and want to feel desirable or important. You may sin in various ways because of peer pressure. You may shop (and spend money you shouldnt) when you feel insecure or depressed. If you can identify patterns when you sin, you will be able to make a better plan. Even if a temptation seems to come out of nowhere, pray and think about it. You usually can identify patterns in your behavior. This can help you understand why you sin and how to be an overcomer. This is not an easy thing to discover but it is really essential to go through the process of thinking abo ut why we entertain thoughts that lead to temptation. put into place the things you need to do that Ask yourself the question, Why? You may hit at the root cause of what is driving your desire. Recognizing the root of the temptation allows you to pull it out right away before it takes hold and grow. Otherwise you may find yourself in the same position again. Once you identify what motivates you to sin, pray about the underlying reason and trust that God will always give you a way out of those tempting situations. Prayer Point: God, help me discover what is fueling my temptations and how I can overcome it. Memory Verse: Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life (Proverbs 4:23) Application: Regarding the temptation you wrote about two days ago, pray for Gods revelation and do the Why? exercise above to get at the root cause of that temptation in your life and commit to rooting it out. If you feel unloved, pray to enjoy Gods love instead of looking for a cheap substitute.

Text: James 1:2-15 Once youve decided to reject sinful thoughts, you must choose to accept and dwell on wholesome thoughts. Nature abhors a vacuum, and if you do not fill y our mind with pure thoughts you will be more likely to fall into sin again, maybe even worse than before. Do you think you cant control your thoughts? If so, you are not alone. Many people think thoughts are like raintheres not much we can do about them. But thats not true. You can discipline your mind and decide what to think about. Make it a habit to think about things that are pure and true. Identify Bible verses that speak to you personally about holiness and the particular sin you want to overcome. These could be from your personal Bible study, a sermon, or a book on dealing with temptation in a biblical way. Keep an eye open for verses that jump out at you. Once you find some verses, read them regularly. Memorize what you can; here are a few below to get you started: Those who live according to the sinful nature have their minds set on what that nature desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires (Romans 8:5). Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirableif anything is excellent or praiseworthythink about such things (Philippians 4:8). Therefore, holy brothers, who share in the heavenly calling, fix your thoughts on Jesus, the apostle and high priest whom we confess (He brews 3:1). Prayer Point: God, help me choose wholesome thoughts all the time. Memory Verse: Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life (Proverbs 4:23) Application: Memorize and meditate on Gods words that address the sin or temptation you are working to overcome.

Text: James 1:2-15 The last verse of our Bible text for this week says in part, . . . and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death. The most common interpretation of this part is the eternal separation and death a sinner experiences when he or she is removed from Gods presence on Judgment Day. While this is certainly true if a sinner never repents, there are other deaths that occur from giving in to sinful thoughts and letting them breed sins in our lives. An adulterous wife suffers the death of her home, family, reputation, and companionship with her husband once her sins are discovered. A drunk or drug-addled teenager experiences the death of trust with family and friends, freedom that comes with maturity as parents try to control the situation, and the promise of a bright future. A chronically indebted man due to his own vices faces the death of his credibility, possible future employment, and the respect of his family. Sin leads to various types of deaths physical, emotional, spiritual, and mental that can cripple our lives. The need to control our thoughts and overcome the temptations that arise from impure thoughts is critical to enjoying the promise of a life filled with every good and perfect gift from above (James 1:17). Prayer Point: God, forgive me for all the things I have let die because of my sins. Please revive those things in my life that are dead as I walk and work with You to live a holy life. Memory Verse: Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life (Proverbs 4:23) Application: If it is possible to make restitution in the areas of or relationships in your life that have died because of your sins, do so with Gods wisdom.

Text: Psalm 107: 20 The word of God is the prescription for healing. When we speak the Word of God over our circumstances, the power of God will breathe life into it. Just reading the Word of God will not do the magic; we must take time to meditate on the Word until we get it into our spirit. The Word for our healing has already been spoken, we just need to lay claim to it so that it can work for us. Psalm 107:20 says, He sent His Word and healed them, He rescued them from the grave. Jesus said in John 15:7, If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, you shall ask what you will and it shall be done unto you We have to speak Gods Word to our body continually regardless of how we feel. There is no room for doubt and unbelief. Prayer point: Lord, empower me to continue to say what Your Word said to my body until I receive my healing. Memory Verse: So is my Word that goes out from my mouth: it will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it (Isaiah 55:11) Application: Continue to speak the Word of faith to us

Instead of weeping and crying, she acted in faith by confessing and went to the man of God. The strategy of the enemy is to keep our eyes on the pain and suffering we are going through instead of keeping our eyes on the Gre at Physician. God is the only one who can make all things new. Keeping our eyes on the way things are looking in the physical realm will cause us to waiver. When we begin to waiver and doubt, then we will not be able to receive our healing. James 1:7 tells us that a double-minded man cannot receive anything from the Lord. Prayer point: Lord, keep my eyes on You instead of on my pain and empower me to say only what Your Word says concerning my situation. Memory Verse: So is my word that goes out from my mouth: it will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it (Isaiah 55:11) Application: Refuse to be governed by your five natural senses. Text: Matthew 8: 5-13 After Satan attacks our body with sickness and disease, he then goes to our mind with his fiery darts of fear, unbelief, doubt, and confusion. Then he clutters our minds with lies that God is not going to heal us. And once we give in to his words; the Word of God then becomes ineffective in our life. The Roman soldier understood that the Word carries authority and that it is all we need for our healing to manifest When Jesus offered to come to his house to heal his servant, he simply told Jesus to just say the word. Hebrew 6:11 says that without faith it is impossible to please Him for he who comes to God must first believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him Believe the word of God--it cannot fail. We should stop accepting the lies of the devil because doubt destroys faith. Prayer point: Lord, help me to understand that Your Word is sufficient for my healing. Like the Roman soldier, teach me to begin to depend only in You and in Your Word for my healing. Memory Verse: So is my word that goes out from my mouth: it will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it (Isaiah 55:11) Application: Consistently confess Gods promises of healing and act upon them and continue to rejec t Satans lies.

Text:3John:2 Ac cording to our text, the Bible says that God anointed Jesus of Nazareth who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed of the devil. Jesus healed all who wa s brought to Him. There was no condition that was too difficult for Him or He was not able to heal. His power to heal has no limitation. In His Will, God will and can heal any disease condition brought to Him for He is our Jehova Rapha. So, why not shut everything else out of your mind and get in His presence and see Him lift your sickness from you. He can heal you. 3John verse 2 says that He wishes above all things that we prosper and be in health even as our soul prospers. Prayer point: L ord, as I come to You with my disease, heal me and grant me wholeness in Jesus Na me. Memory Verse: So is my word that goes out from my mouth: it will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it (Isaiah 55:11) Application: Get before God in prayer. Text: Mark 2: 5 -11 One day, four men brought a man to Jesus to be healed. Unable to get near to Jesus because of the crowd, they made a hole in the roof and let his bed down through the roof. When Jesus saw their faith, He said unto the paralytic; son thy sin are forgiven. He told him to stand up and pick up his mat and go home. The same divine flow of Gods spirit that saves also heals. Jesus is our salvation and our healer. As we received our salvation by faith we can reach out to Him by faith and also receive our healing. Psalm 103: 2-3 stresses this point: He forgives all our iniquities and heals all our diseases. We must see Jesus as the Savior of our souls as well as our Healer. Prayer point: Lord, Help me to not only know You as my Savior but also to know and experience You as my Healer. Memory Verse: So is my word that goes out from my mouth: it will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it (Isaiah 55:11) Application: From now on dont just see Jesus as your salvation; see Him also as your healer.

Text: James 5:14-15 A person may pray for a long time for healing but until their prayer is accompanied by faith, healing will not manifest. We have assurance from the Word of God that when prayer of faith is offered on behalf of the sick, that God will heal the sic k. Ac cording to Wesley Duewel a writer, hours of praying do not eliminate the need for faith. But they may help us arrive at the position of faith. Prayer without faith is powerless. As we pray for healing, our faith must not waiver. We must continue to expect and believe that God will heal our condition regardless of whether or not we see a physical ma nifestation. Prayer point: L ord, strengthen my faith in You so that I can receive all You have for me. Text: Mark 16:17-18 Sicknesses and diseases are the works of the devil. We dont need to pray to find out whether or not it is Gods will to heal us. The pr ice has been paid already by Jesus. He paid it with His bloo d. He has destroyed the power of sickness. He has also authorized us to heal the sick with the power and authority that is in His name. We have to begin to take authority over the sickness and disease that plague our body in the name of Jesus. We have to rebuke the spirits of infirmity and disease and spirit of tor ment. Command them to loose their grip in our bodies in the name of Jesus. Jesus gave us permission to act in His place and on His behalf according John 14:12. So as He took authority over sickness and diseases and healed the oppressed while on earth we are to do the same Prayer point: L ord, I claim Your promise and believe that as I lay hands on the sick, they will recover. Memory Verse: So is my word that goes out from my mouth: it will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it (Isaiah 55:11) Application: Begin to command sickness and disease to go in the name of Jesus.

Text: Psalm 119:9-16 Todays passage opens with a rhetorical question revealing to us the path to purity. This passage is relevant not just for youths, but for all those who love the Lord and desire to live their lives to show forth the glory of God. None of us have the wherewithal to be pure or stay pure; our dependence is in Christ working in us. I invite you to prayerfully consider todays text. Gods desire is for His children to be pure. To be pure, we must seek the Lord with undivided attention and give His Word the rightful place in our lives. We also need to pray that the Holy Spirit will accomplish His will in our life and engrave His words in our heart. We need to know the Word so well that we speak it and find time to ponder on any truth revealed to us. If, by Gods enabling grace, we are able to do these things our lives will begin to reflect Gods glory. Apart from the fact that Christ dwells in our hearts, nothing else distinguishes us from the world if we do not allow God to have all of us and purify our hearts. The tendency is to remain like the world. The enemy of our soul will go to any length to hinder us from becoming pure. But, with all the resources of heaven on our side, we are moving on to a higher level of living in purity in Jesus Name. Prayer point: Have all of me, O Lord, and purify my heart to do your will and fulfill all your precious promises in me. Memory verse: Thy word have I hid in my heart that I may not sin against you (Psalm 119: 11) Application: God will only have His way in any life that delights in Him

Text: Psalm 119:1-8 The book must have been on the coffee table for days. But, as I walked past it this time, I felt like picking it up to see what it was about. It was a piece of Christian literature. One chapter talked about how many Christian try to avoid the teachings on the doctrine of holiness for fear of being stigmatized as holier than thou hypocrites or proud. Others, however, have chosen to live right in appreciation of the love of God that brought them from darkness into His marvelous light. What liberation! What relief those words brought that early dawn of the day. I have been struggling making contribution in writing these days, even to share the Word of God in some Christian circles for the aforementioned reasons, If the church avoids the salient truth in the Word of God, what becomes of the lot of those in the world? I am a sinner saved by grace but my yearnings since I yielded my life to Jesus is to love Him, s eek Him with all my heart, walk in His steps and to live amongst men to show forth His praise. May we all ask God for his enabling grace to live our lives to honor Him in obedience to His Word as our profession of our love for Him. Prayer point: Help me Lord to love You in word and in deed. Memory verse: Thy word have I hid in my heart that I might not sin against you. Application: Obedience to Gods word is a way to praise and honor Him.

Text: James 1:22-25

I was pondering on a passage of Scripture I read when the Ho ly Spirit star ted dealing with me on an area in which I had been struggling. He expressly told me that I had been struggling because I did not believe his Word for that area of my life. I tried to reason out the fact that I have been reading that passage for years and that I believe His Word. But many times we acknowledge His Word as the truth, memorize the Word, quote, sh are, preach or even teach it when we dont truly believe it. I cried out, Lord please help me and tell me how to believe Your Word. Please help my unbelief. I share this so we may take time to ponder on those revealed truths that we only approve mentally but fail to really believe. Preacher Kenneth Hagin once said, God said it, I believe it, and that settles it. When the Word is settled in our hearts, let us ask for grace to be a doer of His will. Prayer point: I pray Lord to take me to a higher level of faith by making me a believer in your Word and a doer of Your will; in Jesus Name. Memory verse: Thy word have I hid in my heart that I may not sin against you. Psalm 119:11. Application: Remember God blesses the doers of His Word. Be a doer of His word today.

Text: 1 Peter 1:13-21 Todays text opens with an exhortation that anyone who cla ims to be Gods child should exercise self control, have the fear of God and be holy as they look forward to see the Lord when He comes back to rapture His people. Our call is a c all to holiness. Beloved, let us be very careful in these last days when we hear different teachings and opinions. I hear some say it is not possible to be holy. In fact, I heard a minister recently claim Jesus said that He is not holy and as such we cannot be holy. I almost jumped out of my skin. Let us be very careful to avoid all attempts by men to trivialize the purpose of Jesus shed blood on the cross, the sinless spotless Lamb of God who left His glory to take our pla ce on the cruel cross. He died that we may live. Yes, we are weak, still living in a world full of moral decadence, trials and temptations. Yet we can just put our trust in our Father God who is loving and strong enough to do His great pleasure. We can be assured that as we depend on Him and put our trust in Him, it is possible to live a holy life. I may not be there yet, but I wont give up. The major difference between the world and us is our call to holiness of life which we embrace at the point of salvation. Beloved, as ambassadors of Christ let us be faithful in living out this truth. Prayer point: Father, in Jesus Name, have Your way with me such that holiness will become a way of life for me too. Memory verse: Thy word have I kept in my heart that I may not sin against you. (Psalm 119:11). Application: Let us move from mere profession of Gods holiness to honoring Him by living a holy life.

Text: Genesis 1:26 - 27

I watched a show about celebrity look-alikes and what people do just f or fame and money. I remember a niece of mine back in Africa, who claims Beyonce, a female artist in the US, is her role model and wants to be like her in every way. Suddenly, my mind just flipped back to todays text where on the sixth day of creation, God summoned the input of the Trinity and proclaimed, Let us make man in our image. Some illustrators say an image may be similar but not necessarily identical to the original. God willingly made us as His representatives in features and nature. God has the divine nature and that is the nature He desires we have. Gods intended nature for man was lost during the fall due to disobedience in the Garden of Eden. At the cross, the redemption and restoration plan was accomplished; as many as will receive and believe Jesus may be restored to the image and likeness of God. Gods intended likeness cannot be developed in a day; as children we grow in grace. Let us yearn to be who God wants us to be; His holy treasure. Prayer point: Thank You, Lord, for all You did for me to regain Your image and likeness. Help me to mature in grace and cease from trivializing Your great plan and purpose for me. Memory verse: Thy word have I hid in my heart that I may not sin against you. (Psalm 119:11). Application: Holiness is a secret to dominion. Ask God for the grace to live Holy.

Text: Genesis 3:21 Before it was time for the clinical aspect of my nursing program, we had a session set apart for instruction on the expected professional appearance. It was somehow funny when the professor listed areas to be mindful of; nothing under the uniform should be transparent for any to see, no delicate areas of the body should be exposed. Many employers are particular about the appearance of their professionals because it speaks volume about the quality of their character and work. It will soon be summer time in the U S and many people will start to dress in skimpy, designer torn outfits and the like. They tend to forget the sacredness of the human body, that we carry Gods image and that we are His temple. A man of God from Africa some time ago jokingly said, Summer is a time to avoid visiting to the US if you care about purity of life. Many things and people you see can make the most consecrated person to err in the area of the lust of the eyes and the lust of the flesh. Beloved in todays text when Adam and Eve discovered they were naked, God made coats of skin to clothe and cover their nakedness. If walking around naked was alright there wouldnt have been need for God to clothe them. Honor God by dressing and acting appropriately, not falling back on ignorance or choosing to be rebellious to Gods way. Prayer point: Father, in Jesus Name, help me to always remember that I belong to you. Memory verse: Thy word have I hid in my heart that I may not sin against you. (Psalm 119:11) Application: We carry the presence of God at all times, not just while in the church. Keep His temple presentable.

Text: John 14:1-3 It was 5 oclock and I sat to watch the ABC World News as usual. Sometimes I get distracted but this evening the news caught my attention as I listened to how a famous American physicist, Stephen Hawkins claimed that heaven is a myth or fairy tale. It was a great relief as I listened to the response that heaven is for real from 12-year-old Cotton Burpo who experienced heaven during an emergency surgery. The narration of his experience is in the book Heaven Is For Real by his dad, Todd Burpo. Our text today is Jesus farewell address to his disciples. He promises an eternal home, that we should be comforted in that He has done to prepare a place for us. He will be coming back to receive us so we may abide with Him forever. Heaven is a real place--the eternal hope and abode of the redeemed. The devil is out to discredit our faith by attacking all that we believe in these last days. Beloved of God, let us hold unto the revealed truth in the Bible. This is a time we cannot lay down our guard; let us take time to study the Scriptures so the likes of these renowned scholars will not confuse us. In 1 Corinthians 15:19, Apostle Paul said, If only in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable. Prayer point: Father, in Jesus Name I put my trust and hope in You that I will not miss heaven. Memory verse: Thy word have I hid in my heart that I may not sin against you. Application: We are in this world temporarily, heaven is our eternal home.

Text: Jeremiah 30:13-26 An ytime you tell the truth, you find peace with yourself; wh en asked to relate the incident again you wont have to try to figure out what you said the first time so that no one finds out that you lied. Whenever my son tries to add a little lie to his story, I tell him that I trust him to tell me the truth. Then I notice that he will sigh and say okay mummy, actually He sighs for the relief and peace that he does not have to hide the truth and I have peace myself knowing that no ma tter what anyone says concerning that issue I have heard the truth from my son and that will help me handle the ma tter properly. There is always peace in a relation where people speak the truth to one another. The Word of God is true, Jesus is the Truth; He said in John 14:6, I am the way, truth and the life. . . I believe that is the reason why it cannot be distorted. When we read it in times of trial, we find peace in it, because it is the truth. Prayer point: Father, I thank You because You are the Truth. Lord, let Your truth dwell in me a t all times so that I will be able to express Your Word to the people around me and they can find the peace in You. Memory verse: For there is nothing hidden that will not be disclosed, and nothing concealed that will not be known or brought out into the open. Text: 2Kings 11:2-4 Several times the teenagers at the church will say in their testimony before the church that they love coming to the church. Some will say they find the church a safe haven. It gladdens my heart that these teenagers will rather come to church - to Jesus - to find safety. They find safety away from the challenges other teenagers find in the world, as well as temptations of peer pressure. They have set their minds to follow Jesus. Apostle Paul admonishes in Colossians 3:2-4 that we should set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. For we died, and our life is now hidden with God in Christ. When Christ (who is your life) appears, then we also will appear with Him in glory. Joash and his nurse were hidden in the temple of the Lord for six years and no one could find them. The temple was right there among the people. They came to the temple every time for sacrifice, but could not find him because he was hidden in the presence of the Lord. Are you hidden in the presence of the Lord Jesus Christ? Do you find solace and are you happy to come to His presence? J oin the teenagers who enjoy coming to His presence. Prayer point: Lord, I open and set my heart to seeking You today, let nothing take me away from Your presence. In Jesus Name. Memory verse: For there is nothing hidden that will not be disclosed, and nothing concealed that will not be known or brought out into the open. It will become a lifestyle you will not want to trade for anything in the world.

Text: Psalm 119: 9-16 On e thing I enjoy about the Word of God is that it is relevant and can address every current affair that man faces. I had been struggling with some issues and I really did not know wh o to tell. My fear was that if I did find someone, that person would be unable to understand or give me correct counsel. The moment I sought the Lord in prayer, I could vividly hear Him speak to me to open some passages in the Bible. This brought clarity to my confusion and a clear dir ection on how to resolve the issue. At that point, I did not have to worry about the reaction of man or the ability to trust man. Staying in the Word of God keeps us from committing sin. Like water, the Word of God is our cleansing agent. (Ephesians 5:26). The Holy Spirit will remind us of what we have read in the Bible. No matter what talent or gift you are given, you have to know the Word of God to be able to properly appropriate it to matters you confront daily. There is no way you can be a true citizen of the country in wh ich you live if you do not know the constitution of that nation. So also you cannot be a true citizen of the kingdom of Heaven if you are not conversant about what God has written in His word. The word of God is the lamp that illuminates our path for right directions to properly live in the Kingdom. Prayer point: L ord, give me the strength and wisdom to schedule and make myself available to studying Your Word. In Jesus Name. Memory verse: For there is nothing hidden that will not be disclosed, and nothing concealed that will not be known or brought out into the open. Text: Psalm 19:7-13 Our experience and growth is sometimes hidden in the mistakes we ma ke. We find it hard to forget the mistakes we ma ke; especially when the mistake is a grievous one. If we knowingly engage ourselves in wrong-doing and repeatedly do what is wrong, it is considered a habit. Ap ostle Peter wept bitterly for denying Jesus three times and remembered when he went back fishing with some disciples. He remembered how the Lord Jesus told him to feed the sheep. When the day of Pentecost came and the by-standers did not understand what was going on, he stood up to preach the Gospel to them. The Bible tells us it that men gave their lives to Jesus. He now knows that denying Jesus means losing sheep. People who always want to be right or perfect never learn from their mistakes. They would rather condemn themselves because they find it difficult to believe that they could fall into such error. We should never justify ourselves or live in condemnation because of our errors. Instead, turn it to an experience and never fall into it again. Teach others not to do the same. Prayer point: L ord Jesus, I commit myse lf to you. Keep me from willful sin and help me to live for You daily. Memory verse: For there is nothing hidden that will not be disclosed, and nothing concealed that will not be known or brought out into the open. (Luke 8:17) Application: Make a decision today to turn your habit into an experience. Confess your sins and turn away from them, asking the grac e to do so from the Lord. With determination and grace from God, you can make it. Someone is waiting to hear your experience so that they can be free.

Text: Joshua 2: 1-7 When Rahab hid the spies, I truly believe that it was God that hid them. If those men were truly looking for the spies, they would have gone up the roof to fetch them out. But God placed them in secret. God is the revealer of every hidden thing (Jeremiah 16:17). I really cannot tell you how many times I have misplaced some thing and like a little child would bring the issue to the attention of the Holy Spirit. Simply, I ask Him if He will please help me find it. Lo and behold, He reminds me exactly where I have misplaced it. I will encourage you to try it the next time you misplace something. With God, there is nothing concealed that cannot be revealed. Remember, He is the revealer of all secrets. (Matthew 10:26). In his search of the meaning of life itself and the source of wisdom, Job asks that while silver, gold and iron have their source, where does wisdom come from and where is the house where understanding can be found? Unlike gold and silver, you cannot dig the earth to find wisdom and understanding. It is hidden from the eyes of every living thing and concealed from the birds in the sky. Gods wisdom is hidden from men and it is foolishness to them. But for us, it is the power of God. Prayer point: Lord Jesus, I hide myself in your presence, help me to walk in your wisdom. In Jesus Name. Memory verse: For there is nothing hidden that will not be disclosed, and nothing concealed that will not be known or brought out into the open. Text: Isaiah 45:1-5 Want to know why God cares so much for a king who does not really know Him yet still reveres Him? God knew that Cyrus cared about His children, the Israelites. God told him how much He will help him subdue n ations. Whoever confronts Cyrus would have to answer to God. God promised him hidden treasures that will be stored up. Ha ve you ever sought for a treasure before? You frantically look for it by all cost and means. God told Cyrus that he will easily find his treasure. This got me thinking that if God can promise a pagan king blessings of treasures hidden on earth, wh at will be my portion and promise for treasure in Christ if I remain steadfast in Him? Before Moses death, he prayed again for the children of Israel and everyone received a blessing. In Jesus Christ we find our treasures: wisdom, knowledge, understanding (Proverbs 2:1-6). We are satisfied physically, mentally and spiritually. Prayer point: Father, in Jesus Name, I thank You because You have made me Your own and in You I can find the hidden treasure. Text: Judges 6:7-24 It is amazing today that when offering of any kind is mentioned, the atmosphere in the Body of Christ changes. Christians are being forced to give offerings today. Pastors collect contributions when they know there will a lot of people present. They collect neither at the beginning of the service nor towards the end because they know some people will leave before it is time for offering. I was visiting a church when the Pastor caught himself trying to get enough funds for the church. He began to call up different groups in the church. In some instances, the same people were called up four or five times. However, the effort did not make much difference. The regular amount of money for offering was collected despite the drama. Offering to God should not be given grudgingly and should not be collected by manipulation. Gideon got more than he bargained for because of a willing offering. He provoked the hand of God to further his own victory. The Shunamite woman received the blessing of a male child because she willingly provided for the servant of God (indirectly to God). The young lad, who willingly gave his lunch to feed five thousand, received the blessing of more than enough. I understand that for some people giving does not come easily; they have to learn it. God wants to use our resources and bless those who cheerfully give to Him. Prayer point: Holy Spirit, I now realize that You want to use me to provide for Your Kingdom; help me to give myself, as well as my substance to You. In Jesus Name. Memory verse: For there is nothing hidden that will not be disclosed, and nothing concealed that will not be known or brought out into the open. (Luke 8:17) Application: Whenever you need something from God, sow a seed. Do not go into debt as some leaders will ask you to do but take from what you have, sometimes you will have to give over and above your normal offering to receive a blessing.

Text: 1Timothy 1:1-11 Paul was clear about the purpose of his instruction to all believers: avoid the error of some who focus on religious talk rather than spiritual walk. Not everything that counts can be counted, nor everything that can be counted counts. What counts for the man of God according to Paul is love that comes from a pure heart, clear conscience and genuine faith. While religious talkers who are actually false teachers of Timothys days were counting on their knowledge of the scriptures and ability to debate, Young Timothy was to set himself to study and obey the Word. Today, there are so-called Christians who study the Word of God just for the purpose of discussion, debate, and defense in Bible classes, public conversations, and publications. The ultimate purpose of the Word is to produce in us love towards God an d men, born out of a mind that is void of uncleanness, but consumed with sincere faith in God. Our spirituality should be more than talks but such that manifest in God pleasing deeds. Prayer point: Lord, let my walk be worthy of my calling, reflecting Your love to all that I come in contact with. Memory Verse: Dont let anyone think less of you because you are young. Be an example to all believers in what you say, in the way you live, in your love, your faith, and your purity. (I Timothy 4:12) Application: Why do you study the Word?

Text: 1Timothy 1: 12-17 It was said of Queen Victoria that as child didnt know she was in line for the throne of England. Her instructors, trying to prepare her for the future, were frustrated because they couldnt motivate her. She just didnt take her studies seriously. Finally, her teachers decided to tell her that one day she would become the queen of England. Upon hearing this, Victoria quietly said, Then I will b e good. The realization that she had inherited this high calling gave her a sense of r esponsibility that profoundly affected her conduct from then on. Paul did not take his calling lightly. As blasphemer now turned a preacher, he became a pattern of the faith and love that is possible in Christ. He realized that as a recipient of Gods mercy and grace, the appropriate response is gratitude. Like Paul, we who are saved are saved by grace regardless of the degree of our sinfulness. As such, we should value our calling, responding with profound thankfulness. Prayer point: Lord, I thank You for the salvation of my soul. May I display qualities of character that can only be attributed to your presence in my life . To You be glory forever. Memory Verse: Dont let anyone think less of you because you are young. Be an example to all believers in what you say, in the way you live, in your love, yo ur faith, and your purity. (I Timothy 4:12) Application: If you are already a Christian, show your gratitude by growing in love and faith. If you are yet to become a Christian, follow Pauls example.

Text: 1Timothy 1: 18-20 In this passage the Christian journey is compared to a sea voyage. For the ship to sail safely to the other side, the sailor has to be equipped with supplies that are necessary for successful sailing. Paul counseled Timothy to avoid the err or of Hymeneus and Alexander on whom he disciplined for teaching false doctrine. They failed in their faith journey and also caused the faith of others to falter (2 Timothy 2:17-18). They are an example to us today in the same way they were to Timothy. We will do well on our Christian journey which could also be likened to a battle field if we are equipped with thr ee necessary things. First, prophetic w ords received during preaching, baptism, consecration, ordination or any other mile stone are not to be forgotten. They are to be a driving force to propel us towards the target. Second, we need to keep believing regardless of the surrounding circumstance. Dont quit. Third is the need to keep a conscience clear. Conscience is given to us to help us know when we are beginning to fail or fall away from that right path. A good conscience is ma intained by obedience to Gods will. Prayer point: L ord Jesus, keep me in Your will. Let me keep believing You regardless of what I see or where I find myself on my lifes journey. Memory Verse: Dont let anyone think less of you because you are young. Be an example to all believers in what you say, in the way you live, in your love, your faith, and your purity. (I Timothy 4:12) Ap plication: Are you holding on to His Word? Are you clinging tight to faith? Or have you suffered shipwreck by rejecting faith and a good conscience? If so, go to Jesus in prayer now.

Text: 1Timothy 2: 1-8 E. M. Bounds, the American prophet of prayer (18351913), declares , What the Church needs today is not more machinery or better, not new organizations or more novel methods, but men whom the Holy Ghost can use--men of prayer, men mighty in prayer. That seems to be the same call Paul made in first century. The fact is God calls us to various places and stations in life setting forth certain parameters and guidelines in each assignment. Here the parameter of prayer extends to all including those in authority. The guideline is to pray that God by His mercy would bring men to the saving grace, and this we do with thanksgiving. Prayers that extend to people beyond our close circle satisfy Gods desire for His children and also influence our civic life in the positive direction. According to the Word of God, if we want to lead a quiet and peaceable life, living a lifestyle of godliness and honesty, its imperative we pray for our President and for all those in authority. Finally, prayer is not to be a ritual but faith-filled experience. Prayer point: Lord, help me be obedient to Your call, praying daily for those that have authority over me that they may be discerning and conscientious in all that they do. Memory Verse: Dont let anyone think less of you because you are young. Be an example to all believers in what you say, in the way you live, in your love, your faith, and your purity. (I Timothy 4:12) Application: Set time to prayer for the President, Governor, Mayor, King and everyone who has authority over you.

Text: 1Timothy 2: 9 15 The Apostle Paul should not be regarded as a gender-biased leader but rathe r one that tends to address issues that each gender is naturally inclined to give much attention to. Earlier in this chapter, Paul called men to pray everywhere. Now with the same intensity, he is calling women to pay attention to the subject of adornment and submission. In a world obsessed with fashion and equality, women would rather be daughters of Jezebel than daughters of Sarah. But for women making a claim to godliness, their adornment will be modest and discreet, accompanied with good works and their service will be faith, love, and holiness, accompanied by submission and self-restraint. Today, according to Pauls instruction, Christian women (and men) are not to draw attention to themselves by being a product of either extremity in dressing. This sends an unsettling message even to outsiders by demonstrating the power of God in spiritual deeds. Prayer point: Lord, help me every aspect of my life reflect my love and total submission to You and Your ways. Memory Verse: Dont let anyone think le ss of you because you are young. Be an example to all believers in what you say, in the way you live, in your love, your faith, and your purity. (I Timothy 4:12) Application: Attention to physical adornment, or godly conduct? Be careful not to let the physical take precedent and block out the spiritual

Text: 1Timothy 3: 1-13 The great violinist, Niccolo Paganini willed his marvelous violin to the City of Genoa on condition that it must never be played again. The wood of such an instrument, while used and handled, wears only slightly, but set aside, it begins to decay. Paganinis lovely violin has today become useless except as a relic. A Christians unwillingness to serve may soon destroy his capacity for usefulness. Hence, Christian service in any form (elder and deacons in clusive) is an honorable calling to be desired in the eye s of God and is a form of servant hood. However, this passage focuses on the character of the servant rather than the perks attached to the position. Unlike secular vocations where the benefits are the draw, responsibilities becomes the highlight of ones call. Tony Evans onc e said Leadership in the local church should be determined by spirituality, not notoriety. A Christian leader must be an example of godliness. It is imperative to understand that when God calls people to serve His church, He looks for those whose hearts are right w/ Him. His is not concerned about talents, wealth, power, or experience, but with spiritual virtue. He is looking for people who want to go in the same direction He is. Prayer point: Father, give Your servants in my Church a sense of fulfillment and completion, a time of refreshment and rest, and new opportunities for living the good news of Your love in Jesus Christ. Memory Verse: Dont let anyone think le ss of you because you are young. Be an example to all believers in what you say, in the way you live, in your love, your faith, and your purity. (I Timothy 4:12) Application: Are you serving because you desire to or because you are compelled to?

Text: 1Timothy 4: 1- 6 Dr Francis Steel of the North Africa Miss ion gave a sad prediction of an eventual union between apostate Christianity and Islam. In our times, professed believers are gradually turning away from distinctive biblical teachings to political correctness and tolerance. False doctrine is like yeast: it grows quickly a nd over takes its environment completely. Often times these teachings originate from overzealousness that emphases works over grace. These te achers lay claim to some revelations that could not be supported by the Bible, thereby reducing the Christian walk to set of manmade rules. However, our nourishment comes only from the message of faith and practice of sound teachings and not from what we eat or marital status. It is important that we listen to what the Holy Spirit is saying to us about deceptive spirits. The Word of God must be our authority on all things, not celebrities, television, internet, radio or any other means. Prayer point: Lord, in this age of spiritual confusion and compromise with Christian beliefs, I ask for continuing discernment that I my heart and mind may be protected from false teachers and their teaching. Memory Verse: Dont let anyone think le ss of you because you are young. Be an example to all believers in what you say, in the way you live, in your love, your faith, and your purity. (I Timothy 4:12) Application: Identify your resources for sound teaching. Let the Word take the first place.

1Timothy 4:7-16 According to Forbes.com, Americans spent approximately $46 million on diet products and self help books in 2004. We can imagine how much this business has grown in the last few years. The irony of it is that a government review found that two-thirds of American dieters regained all of the weight they lost in the same year. We can conclu de that bodily exercise has limited value when compared with godliness which is a spiritual exercise. This is not an excuse to have sedentary life that is centered on fellowship and food, but an encouragement to train for Biblical beauty called godliness. Godliness is the devotion to God which results in compassion, humility, joyfulness and truthful acts. Bodily exercise may help our heart and muscle condition but it does not affect our soul. Spiritual exercise on the other hand has rollover value here and in life a fter. Reading the Bible, praying and meditating are different ways in which we exercise our spirit. Spending consistent time with God in a way that is meaningful will give us a connection to Him that pays great dividends as it pertains to ones faith journey. Prayer point: Father, help me live a life of godliness and dignity, keeping my body in subjection to Your Spirit in all things and to pursue You with complete devotion. Memory Verse: Dont let anyone think less of you because you are young. Be an example to all believers in what you say, in the way you live, in your love, your faith, and your purity. (I Timothy 4:12) Application: Do you spend more time Working Out or Walking the Word? Are you always Making up or Praying up?
