The road less travelled – climbing, climbing.

With Vincent, we decided to take a ridiculous route across the Tien Shan which involved
climbing from about 1000m up to 3700m with an initial pass of 2700m. The road was
completely blocked to normal vehicles because of landslides and road workers trying to mend
it. We just cycled past all the piles of earth blocking the route and had the place to ourselves
for about 100km. It was absolutely magic. In a couple of years time this whole area will be
open to tourists and this route will be a major challenge for cyclists. We crossed the first
pass easily and camped inside an old building to keep out of the bitterly cold wind.
