In the past six months, the Indian rupee (INR) has been very volatile against the US dollar, moving from Rs45 / USD to Rs39 / USD and again to Rs 50 / USD. The strengthening of INR by 13 percent has taken away the Indian cost advantage for exporters but at the same time benefited the importers. The depreciation of the rupee by 28 percent has affected the importers adversely while benefiting the exporters.
