FAQ

Welcome to Christian Medical College & Hospital, Vellore! We realize that you would have a lot of questions about our facilities and service. Following are some of the frequently asked questions, with the answers. How can I find the approximate amount needed for the treatment before I come to the hospital? You will need to contact the concerned department through email and give all the details of your illness. They will try and give an estimate. This is my first visit. Where should I go for a new appointment / registration? Go to OPD Block Reception / Main Reception / ISSCC Reception or any Help Desk and collect a new Registration form. Fill in the form carefully. If you are referred by a doctor you can go directly to the cash counter. If you are not referred by a doctor to a certain department or if you do not know which department you should choose, then proceed to the Triage room (600A) which is located in the ground floor of the Main Block. After that proceed to the cash counter, there are separate cash counters for new and repeat registration located in the ground floor of the ISSCC (IDA SOPHIA SCUDDER CENTENARY CENTRE) building. Few counters in ISSCC building are open for registration up to 12 midnight and through the night up to 6.00 a.m. registration could be made at the counter next to the Emergency department. Other than the registration for Psychiatry and Eye department all the rest of the registrations are done in the Main Hospital itself. I have already taken an appointment via Phone/Online, where should I report? Report at the concerned clinic or approach the reception for guidance. If I am a Foreign National is there any separate registration formality? Along with the Registration form you should fill in a separate form (Foreign Nationals Registration form) which is available at the Foreign Nationals Help desk located at the ground floor of the OPD Block. Enclose photo copy of your passport and a passport size photo along with the form.

I am a Company paid / credit patient, where should I submit my papers on my arrival? Submit your papers at ACCESS (490) located at the Ground floor of the ISSCC Building between 8.00 a.m. to 4.30 p.m. and after working hours you may approach the Care section (106), located at the first floor of the Main Building which is open for 24 hours. Should I fill in separate registration forms for each department / specialist that I choose to consult? Only one completed registration form is needed to open a new file in your name at the hospital. The same file will be sent to various specialists / departments that you wish to consult, whether general or private. Is there credit card payment facility available? Credit card payment facility is available at the ACCESS counter (490) located at the ISSCC Building ground floor. There is another counter near the Emergency Department that has 24 hours credit card payment facility. Are all the departments in the same campus? Other than Psychiatry and Eye department all the rest of the departments are in the Main Hospital. Eye department is located in the Schell Eye Hospital campus which is 2kms away from the Main Hospital. Psychiatry department is located in the Mental Health Center which is 7kms from the Main Hospital. Registration for Psychiatry and Eye departments are done in the respective campuses itself. What should I do after paying the registration fees? On payment of registration fees, you will be given a computerized receipt. This will have your name, hospital number, the location of the clinic where you will meet your doctor, the appointment time and the date. Please report to the appropriate OP (Out Patient) clinic at the scheduled time and contact the Medical records Officer (MRO) who will tell you when the doctor will see you. If you are a new patient to the hospital, he / she will give you a Hospital Number card bearing your name and the hospital number. Please keep the hospital number card safely. While in the hospital, always carry it with you. The counter staff do not accept payments, blood and other test samples without the hospital number card. It is also needed for all future hospital transactions. Who is a general patient?

A general patient is one who will be seen by any doctor in a department. The registration fee for a new general patient is Rs.100/-. For each subsequent visit, the fee is Rs.50/-. Who is a Private patient? A private patient is one who gets to see a consultant (Specialist) with whom he has booked an appointment. In certain departments, during the first visit, you may be seen by one of the other doctors in the unit, who will order tests, if necessary. The consultant will then see you with the results during the next and subsequent visits. The consultation fee for a new private registration is Rs.500/- and to see every additional consultant (specialist) the consultation fee is Rs.450/-. For each review visit the charge is Rs.150/-. Once in three months, the registration needs to be renewed with a payment of Rs.450/-. (The registration fee is revised every year in the month of January). If I am private patient, where will I be admitted? You may choose to be admitted either in a private ward or a general ward. If I am admitted in the hospital can a relative stay with me in the hospital in the nights? Only one female attendant can stay with you in the nights. If I am registered as private patient with one doctor, do I have to continue as private patient in all other departments?

Not necessarily. If you are registered as a private patient for one department, you may choose to register as a general patient in other departments, and vice-versa. The hospital number remains the same. The doctor has asked me to see a doctor in another department. How should I proceed? If the concerned department has an OP clinic on the same day and if an appointment is available, you may be seen the same day. If not, you may book the next available appointment. If you wish to be seen as a general patient, there are no additional charges, if an appointment is available on the same day. If you wish to be seen as a private patient, you may need to pay a fresh fee to see a consultant, even if an appointment is available for the same day. The doctor has asked me to visit him again and has also given me lab requests for tests and prescriptions. What should I do next?

Take the repeat appointment slip and the lab request to the cash counter. Every floor in the OPD block has a cash counter apart from those on the ground floors of both the Main OPD building and ISSCC building. The staff there will accept payment and give you a receipt as well as computer test slips for the tests. Prescriptions should be taken directly to the Pharmacy (G-13) which is located in the ground floor of OPD Block for payment and for procuring medicines. Keep all the cash receipts safely for your reference. In case you need reimbursement, it is essential to produce them. Where can I get the tests done? Some of the tests are done in OPD Block ground floor. These are the room numbers Blood test (G-20), Urine Tests (G-21), X-ray (G-11), ECG (G-51). Some special tests are done in other laboratories. The staff at the payment counter will guide you. If you are not clear where to proceed once you have left the counter, you may obtain help at the May I help you or Reception counter. What happens to the test reports? Should I collect them? You need not collect the results. Almost all the results appear in the computers when they are ready. They will be available to your doctor at the OPD, on your next visit. Some of the test results like ECG will be given to you and you need to produce these at your next visit to the doctor.Please keep these documents safe. How can I get a medical report? Please request the doctor at the time of your last visit.He will give you a voucher for payment and make necessary arrangements for the medical report or guide you to the person who may be responsible to arrange this. After making the necessary payment, the receipt may be submitted to the secretary of the concerned department along with a self addressed stamped envelop. The medical report will be posted to you later. If the report is ready before you leave you may be able to take it with you. The secretary will let you know if this is possible. How can I get a wheel-chair or a stretcher? Wheel-chair and stretchers for OP patients are available at the entrance of the ISSCC Building on payment of a token deposit which will be refunded when you return the unit. I have a problem in the outpatient service whom should I contact?

You may approach the floor supervisors located on each floor of the OPD Block. You can also approach the Reception or the Medical records Supervisor counter G31 in the OPD Block ground floor and G-32 in the ISSCC Building ground floor.
