Answer for part 1

Mathematics is used in cake baking and cake decorating. From this part,
question asks to provide information about how mathematics is used in cake baking
and cake decorating. So, to answer this question, my strategy is apply knowledge
obtained from additional mathematics and gets some information from internet. The
conjecture for this question is calculus, geometry, ratio and progressions. There are
branches of math used in cake baking and cake decorating.
The important thing of cake baking is the amount of ingredients required. The
cake is reasonable pricing. Cake also needs beauty to attract the customers. In cake
baking, ingredients must not be unnecessarily. So, calculus can be applied in cake
baking. The second derivative is greatly used in this part of question. This will help
the bakeries to calculate the maximum or minimum amount of ingredients needed to
increase profit or efficiency. At the same time, this will ensure the bakeries always
estimate the ingredients for the order.
Then, geometry also used in cake decorating. Many bakeries have to produce
cakes of beauty and of substance. In geometry, many interesting shapes and size of
cake can be created. The ideal dimensions of cake can be defined by geometry so
that the cake easily baked in ovens. Geometry will determine the popularity of the
cake besides the price. The calculation of the surface area and volume of the cake
will determine the price per kilogram and the area also available for decorating and
writing words.
The baking of more complex cakes such as multi-storey cakes or multi-
layered cakes, progressions is applied. Progressions allow us to calculate the size or
volume of a subsequent layer. It is also allows us to estimate the quantity of
ingredients needed. Usually, geometric progressions are used.
Lastly, to estimate the amount of ingredients used or substitute the
ingredients with another if those ingredients is not available, ratios are used in cake
baking. For instance, the cakes need some ingredients of 4 parts of water and 2
parts of flour. This ratio of water to flour is 2:1.
In a nutshell, a mathematics principle such as calculus, geometry,
progressions and ratio is very important for cake baking and cake decorating.

Answer for part 2
Question 1

7.0 cm

d cm

Problem of this question : Find the diameter of the baking tray to be used to fit the
cake (5kg).
Solutions :
Volume of the cake per kg : 3800cm

t : 3.142
Total volume of cake = 3800 5
= 19000cm

Therefore, the diameter of the baking tray to be used is 58.7834cm.

Question 2
Problem of this question : find and tabulate the different values of heights and
diameter of the baking tray to be used, if the volume remains the same.
Solutions :
volume of cake = volume of cylinder
v = base area

height
