Arup works across the whole energy chain, from supply to demand, including the connecting infrastructure. climate change, energy security and energy cost, along with government support are all increasing the commercial use of renewable energy. Arup, with a wealth of experience in renewable energy generation, is able to offer clients a multi-disciplinary approach to projects in the following areas:

onshore windFArms A robust and thorough assessment of environmental and social issues is essential to the successful delivery of onshore windfarm projects. Arup provides clients with an integrated package of skills that address often complex and detailed design issues, including:

wind onshore and offshore small scale hydro marine wave and tidal energy solar photovoltaics pv and solar thermal biomass fuel cell and hydrogen technology

strategic site evaluation and site selection, engineering and environmental feasibility assessment, project management, wind energy resource assessment, access feasibility and economic analysis design & assessment planning, project management, eiA (including all specialist skills e.g. noise, landscape, ecology, etc), turbine selection, system design, access design and geotechnics project implementation including project management, procurement, ecological management planning and monitoring and habitat creation

wind energy wind power has the potential to make a significant contribution to renewable energy generation in the UK and is a valuable resource even in built up areas. in the urban environment we offer advanced micro-climate computational modelling techniques to deal with local variations in wind speed and gis techniques to map installation constraints. Arup has been involved in large scale windfarms, both onshore and offshore.

oFFshore windFArms the development of higher output wind turbines in conjunction with their use in offshore locations has the potential to make this form of power generation economically attractive. in the design of offshore windfarms Arup is able to bring together a number of in-house technologies including meteorology,

hydrodynamics, offshore geotechnics and structural engineering, rotating equipment design, power engineering, transmission system design and construction and installation engineering. in addition, our depth of experience in offshore and marine engineering makes us a key collaborator for offshore wind projects, with the ability to offer turnkey solutions. smAll scAle hydro Arup also has experience of small scale hydro electricity schemes and can provide clients with a full range of skills and knowledge including site assessment, technical and planning support and all of the services similar to the scope of capabilities for onshore windfarms wAve And tidAl energy Arup has been involved in several projects looking at the infrastructure to support development of wave and tidal energy devices including concepts and prototyping for various installations and devices. our extensive experience in the oil and gas industry and the marine environment is highly applicable to both wave and tidal technologies. Arup has the necessary skills and knowledge to advise on planning and design decisions for wave and tidal energy with consideration of construction, operational and maintenance issues in the marine environment.

solAr Arup can provide a comprehensive consultancy service to solar energy projects including solar thermal electricity and heat generation and solar photovoltaics. As well as our ability to advise on the positioning of devices in relation to resource, we have detailed knowledge of the integration of systems within a wide range of building types. we also offer services which include feasibility studies, planning, consulting and project management as well as advice on funding and financial mechanisms. BiomAss Biomass offers sustainable heat and electricity supply support for local communities and industries. Arup has experience in all stages of bio-energy generation from fuel supply through to energy and heat production, from a range of technologies including pyrolysis, gasification and anaerobic digestion. FUel cell And hydrogen technology Arup is at the forefront of this fast developing technology and is able to provide clients with a complete consultancy service covering all aspects of fuel cell and hydrogen economy related projects. From feasibility studies, to the design and installation of stationary power projects involving fuel cells for the domestic and industrial markets.

Arup is a global firm of planners, designers, engineers and business consultants. we provide a diverse range of professional services to clients around the world, exerting a significant influence on the built environment. the firm is a creative force behind many of the worlds most innovative buildings, transport and civil engineering projects and design technologies. established in 1946, Arup has over 10,000 employees based in more than 90 offices across 37 countries, working on up to 10,000 projects at any one time. its unique structure, with the firm held in trust on behalf of its employees gives us complete independence. our multidisciplinary approach means that any given project may involve people from any or all parts of Arup. our aim is to achieve excellence in all we do by bringing together the best professionals in the world to meet our clients needs.
