Connecting Beowulf to ENFP

To better understand the legendary Geat warrior Beowulf of Norse Mythology, we undertake the Myer Briggs personality test and thus concluded that his personality is of an ENFP type. ENFP is comprised of Extraversion, intuition, Feeling and Perceiving qualities. People with this kind of personality display signs of a zesty and pragmatic nature. Another factor that these guys have are their superior leadership skills. One whom is charismatic, by having the gift of gab, ability to gain support just by their eloquent verbal skills. Often times they also gain recognition as they are meticulous to the needs of their mates, burdening themselves with their problems, which leads to their irrational behaviour. As we look deeper into further defining his personality, we search for similar instances in his adventure that resembles his personality type. For example the extroverted personality gives rise to his Zesty nature which makes him constantly seek thrills. For instance, he decided to go on a conquest to travel to a distant land to slay a monster Grendel. Hither have fared to thee far-come men
oer the paths of ocean, people of Geatland[Chapter V]

Beowulf together with his fourteen men set sail from Geatland to the land of the Danes on a conquest to help king Hrothgar slay the villanious being Grendel. Another instance is that, even in his youth, he would swim in the ocean.
we were merely boys, striplings still,to stake our lives far at sea: and so we performed it.[Chapter IIX]

In this quote, it talks about young Beowulf whom swam across the sea in a bid to win his friend in a race, and defeating evil monsters in the midst of it. From these two quotes, we can see this that even at a youthful age and until now, Beowulf is one that makes his life meaningful and filled with adventure and is constantly seeking thrills. His pragmatic nature often cause him to be dogmatic to his surrounding. For instance, we can see this when he was receiving gifts from Hrothgar. He care not of his mens feeling but accepted them just because he thinks he deserved it.
Beowulf took cup in hall: for such costly gifts he suffered no shame in that soldier throng. [Chapter XV]

For instance in his battle with Grendel, he would rather fight unarmed as he felt it was not fair to the beast that he was armed and giving him a better advantage.
No skill is his to strike against me, my shield to hew though he hardy be, bold in battle; wecoth, this night, shall spurn the sword, if he seek me here, unweaponed, for war. [Chapter X]

This tells us that he was a very practical person, putting his dignity above the rest. The fact that he would stake his life on a battle against a villain for his pride proves that nothing goes through his mind before acting, putting action before logic. Another personality trait that we can see from Beowulf is that he has the making of a good leader. He is a person who has both charisma and good leadership skills.
Nor have I seen a mightier man-at-arms on this earth than the one standing here: unless I am mistaken,

he is truly noble. This is no mere hanger-on in a hero's armour."

We can see that, even though Beowulf was not from that land, the people were awestruck by his outlook and words. His charismatic ability allowing him to gain support wherever he goes.
Your deeds are famous,so stay resolute, my lord, defend your life now with the whole of your strength. I shall stand by you.

From this we can infer that just by his deeds and popularity, warriors would stand by him and be willing to help him, even though he was just a hero from another land. Thus from this paragraph we can see that Beowulf was one who was able to capture the hearts of both the common people and valiant warriors. He is one that is capable of being a true and good leader. In conclusion we conclude that Beowulfs personality is one that fits with the ENFP personality type and is able to gain the support by many with his leadership ability. His zesty nature often leads him into many adventure and we can see this from Beowulfs many conquests. His pragmatic nature caused him to be a practical person, one whom is unable to lose pride and letting his emotion get through his thoughts, thought this sometimes might lead him to reckless situations but his skills will allow him to get out of it. .
