Paradise
(a special thanks to Ms. Marilyn Laurito and Sis. Juliet) By Sis. Mel

aradise. That was the only adjective I can use to describe the beautiful sight in front of me when I stood on top of the Naejang-san National Park in Jeongup. *Jeongup (Jeongeup-si) is a city in North Jeolla Province, South Korea. The city limits include Naejangsan National Park, a popular destination particularly in autumn due to its foliage. Jeongeup is on the Honam Expressway and Honam Line, with the Seohaean Expressway also within easy reach, providing links to Seoul and Mokpo.*

It was a 2-hr drive from Seoul. I first saw this park during winter and it was very peaceful and freezing cold. My free spirited, full of adventure, travel hopper and nature lover good friend of mine and I, came back for a second time. I learned that it was not just in the solitude inside the solemn temple and monastery or churches can we find God. It is also true indeed that when we get closet to nature we get closer to God. Upon looking at the marvellous sight, I utter a prayer for I found solace. When I walk on the green grass while fresh scent of the green nature surround me I feel blessed. I am indeed blessed not only because I was there but because I was given the chance to feel God on that hill, on that very moment. A cable car brought us from paradise to the highest heaven when the hanging car able to see a magnificent sight of green hills surrounded with flowers and colourful leaves of different trees. I never thought I would be able to see this beauty. It made me go back to the time when I was still a little girl chasing butterflies and watching bees suck the nectar of flowers around me. The time when little gardens in the park back home brought huge happiness in my little heart. Meeting lifes challenges made our heart harder. Small frustrations will draw us away from happiness in little things God created. Now, it is a little weird that in the interior metal we created around our heart, we can still find the child in us. The child full of hope, a child full of praised for all simple things that God has given us. The simplest of all things become special when we are with God and we see His presence in all his creations. Yes, brothers and sisters, we can live in paradise here on earth if you let God occupy the little space in the core of our heart. * taken from wikipedia

The Lamb's Supper: The Bible and the Mass

(Editors note: This is the 4th part of the Online Bible Study course on the subject taken from the website of the St. Paul Center for Biblical Studies http://www.salvationhistory.com/)

Thats the testimony of perhaps our oldest account of the Eucharist outside the Bible. Describing this part of the Mass in 155 A.D., St. Justin Martyr said "the memoirs of the Apostles and the writings of the prophets are read" followed by a homily (see Catechism of the Catholic Church, no. 1345.)

This is the biblical legacy we recall - and become a part of - at the start of every Mass. As we make the Sign of the Cross and repeat the words of the Lords final commission, we remember and renew our covenant with God, made when we were baptized.

Lesson One: A Biblical Introduction to the Mass (continuation .)

III. From the Bible to the Mass
A. Hearing the Apostles, Breaking the Bread The first descriptions we have of the Church in the New Testament are decidedly "eucharistic." Luke says, "They devoted themselves to the teaching of the Apostles and to . . . the breaking of the bread" (see Acts 2:42). The "teachings of the Apostles" are sermons like those recorded in Acts and writings inspired by the Holy Spirit (see 2 Peter 3:15-16; 1 Corinthians 2:13). The "breaking of the bread" is Lukes word for the Eucharist (see Luke 24:35; Acts 20:7,11).

The Apostles began the tradition of marking Use of the Old Testament in the Liturgy - as the newly baptized with the Sign of the Cross. well as the "two-part" structure of the Mass It was a seal of the Lords salvation (see 2 can be traced to the example of Jesus. He is truly with us as we gather in His name (see Matthew 18:20). The words of the biblical promise - "The Lord be with you" - are fulfilled in our hearing (see Luke 4:21). The Bible leaves off with the Lords promise that He is coming soon (see Revelation 22:20). And where the Bible leaves off, the Mass begins.

Try preparing for Sunday Mass by reading and praying over the Scriptures to be proclaimed that day. As you read, try to understand how the promises of the Old Testament reading are fulfilled in the Gospel reading.
Do

you reflect on the biblical basis of the Mass?

Try reading and praying over the biblical passages associated with the Introductory Rite of the Mass (for example Matthew 18:20; 28:19 -20; 2 Corinthians 1:22; 13:14; Ephesians 1:2; 1:13; 2 Timothy 2:19; 4:22; Exodus 3:12; Luke 1:28; Luke 18:13,38,39; Psalm 51:1; Baruch 3:2). See if this deepens your appreciation and your worship.
