Moorgate Bank (MB) can employ the systems development life cycle in order to produce a computerised Information System

which satisfies their organizations goals Introduction The main purpose of this report is to explain the steps taken under the systems development life cycle (SDLC) in order to produce a computerized Information system, to elucidate its importance and finally to relate the SDLC to a company such as Moorgate Bank. System Development Life Cycle The Systems Development Life Cycle is the big picture of creating an information system that handles a major task (referred to as an application). The applications usually consist of many programs. An example would be the customer system used at your local bank, the Department of Defense supply system, the repair parts inventory system used by car dealerships. There are thousands of applications that use an information system created just to help solve a business problem. The Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC) can be defined as A theoretical model used in project management that describes the stages involved in an information system development project from an initial feasibility study through maintenance of the completed application[1]. The image below show the various phases involves in the SDLC method. Planning: The first phase of any project is to plan and to characterize what is needed. The objectives and requirements are determined and considered throughout the planning process. The next step while being in the planning process is to consider the resources and expenses of the company. Information is also exchange in order to determine if the new system is required or old system can be used with some alternations. Moorgate bank also mentioned that in their requirement that the information system they are going to employ should align with the organizations objective and it should support to achieve the objectives. Analysis: An analysis phase is also known as requirement analysis. It is done in order to answer the question what must the information system do to solve the problem? It is essential to know how the current system works so that the new system will do all that the current system does and possibly find ways of improving it further. The main aim of the analysis phase is to perform statistics and requirements gathering. Based on the analysis of the project and due to the influence of the results of the planning phase, the requirements for the project are decided and gathered[2]. Once the requirements for the project are gathered, they are prioritized and made ready for further use. Moorgate bank has decided that they need a new system and they have resources to finance the new system. Design:

The primary objective of this phase is to create a design that satisfied the agreed application requirement. In the design phase the SDLC process continues to move from what questions of the analysis phase to the how questions[3]. Design stage is very crucial in the SDLC process, any flaw in this phase could be very expensive to solve in the later stage. Contemporary design techniques often use prototyping tools that build mock-up designs of items such as application screens, database layouts, and system architectures[4]. The new system for the Moorgate bank at this stage is set to be more users friendly not just for the customers but also for the bank employees. In the new system there is also a feature which has minimized the data redundancy and it enforces referential integrity. The new system has a really easy application form to fill in for the new customers and also it is much secured as compared to the old system. Implementation: In this phase it is discussed, how to implement the system? The implementation stage of any project is a true display of the defining moments that make a project a success or a failure. The implementation stage is defined as "the system or system modifications being installed and made operational in a production environment[5]. The phase is initiated after the system has been tested and accepted by the user. Implementation phase also involve things like user documentation and training. For that purpose project management team need to make sure that all the staff will be able to operate the system properly. In the case of Moorgate bank, the information system has been approved by the bank management team after seeing the prototype. Moorgate banks employees are getting trained on the new system and everything is running smoothly. This phase continues until the system is operating in production in accordance with the defined user requirements. Maintenance: Inevitably the system will need maintenance. The system will definitely undergo change once it is delivered to the customer. There are many reasons for the change. Change could happen because of some unexpected input values into the system. In addition, the changes in the system could directly affect the system operations. The toughest job is encountered in the maintenance phase which normally accounts for the highest amount of money. The maintenance team is decided such that they monitor on the change in organization of the software and report to the developers, in case a need arises[6]. The reason this phase is of great importance is because it maintains and enhance the system by certifying that system can process sensitive information, continued to be satisfied and it also determines when the system needs to be replaced, retired or updated. It appears that at some point Moorgate Bank will have to make certain changes in their recently developed information system, in order to satisfy both customers and organization objectives. Maintenance phase in large organization is usually ongoing because there can always be things going wrong or changing in any given information system. Once the system has launched for certain period of time then there is another little phase to go through which is feedback. The main purpose of this stage is to evaluate the success or failure of the new system. The evaluation process itself is usually an investigative routine whereby users determine whether or not the system function as it was expected.

Conclusion: All the stages of system development life cycle mentioned in above report have its own importance and play a key role in the success of any system development project. Moorgate bank has fully adopted the new information system and currently the system is in maintenance phase of System development Life Cycle.
