This week you will be inquiring into one aspect of NIST and how it is organised.

You will interview people at NIST and find out how they do their job and in an organised way. You will report your findings back to the class in a presentation. Brainstorm a list of the different things at NIST that need organisation - find at least 20. Choose the top 5 that are of interest to you and for each word, write a sentence explaining why it is of interest to you. Choose the aspect of NIST into which you would most like to inquire . Make contact with any other people who are interested in this aspect of NIST so that you can arrange your interviews together. When you have developed the questions for your inquiry you will need to combine them so that you don't waste time at the interview.

Forming Questions for Your Inquiry

Remember that our Key Concepts for this unit are Function and Responsibility but in this inquiry Id also like you to consider Reflection. Use these questions to guide your inquiry. Come up with some more questions based on these Big Idea Questions so that you can find out more about your chosen aspect of NISTs organisation. Record your questions so that when you interview a person about your issue you are ready. Function How is this section of the school organised? What are the steps taken to do this?

Responsibility - Who takes responsibility for this part of the school? Who is responsible for doing the different jobs? Reflection How do these people make sure the jobs are completed? Why is this aspect NIST important to the school?

Collecting and collating the Information

You will need to make arrangements to meet with members of our school community so that you can find the answers to your questions. Make appointments in advance with these people. At your interviews, be prepared and be on time . Have questions ready to ask and be ready to ask follow-up questions (extra questions that come up based on the
answers you get - you should ask at least one or two for each of your original questions to gain greater understanding).

Keep a record of your interview by taking notes, flip cameras or other cameras. When you have collected your information collate the main points and any important details on a word document so that you have all the information in one place. Once you have done this, start preparing your presentation.
