SomeTexas facts:

Texas became the 28th state in 1845 in Washington but was approved by the Republic of Texas in 1846, so there are two dates to celebrate for entering the union. The word Texas, or Tejas, was adopted by the Spanish in the 16th century from the Native American Caddo tribes word for friends or allies. Called the Lone Star State, the flag of the Republic of Texas became the state flag in 1836.

The flags colors represent virtues of courage (red), liberty (white) and loyalty (blue). The Texas Flag Code states that the Lone Star should be flown on all state memorial days and at every school on every regular school day.
