INTRODUCTION

The TATA GROUP is a multinational conglomerate company headquartered in Mumbai, INDIA, in terms of market capitalisation and revenues. Tata Group is the largest private corporate group in India .It has interests in Steel, Automobiles, Information Technology, Communication, Power, Tea, and Hospitality. The Tata Group has operations in more than 85 countries across six continents and its companies export products and services to 80 nations. The Tata Groups comprises 114 companies and subsidiaries in seven business sectors , 27 of which are publicly listed . 65.8% of the ownership of Tata Group is held in charitable trusts. Companies which formed the major part of the group includes Tata Steel, Tata Motors, Tata consultancy services, Tata Technologies, Tata Tea, Tetley, Titan Industries, Tata Power, Tata communication, Tata Teleservices, and the Taj Hotels.

The annual survey by The Reputation Institution ranked TATA GROUPS as the 11th most reputable company in the world. The survey included 600 global companies.

History
The beginning of the Tata Group can be traced back to 1868, when Jamsetji Nusserwanji Tata established a trading company dealing in cotton in Mumbai This was followed by the installation of Emprees Mills in Nagpur in 1877.Taj Mahal Hotel in Mumbai was opened for business in 1903. Sir Dorab Tata the eldest son of Jamsetji became the chairman of the group after his fathers death in 1904. Under him, the group ventured into steel production (1905) and hydroelectric power generation(1910). After the death of Dorab Tata in 1934, Nowroji Saklatwala headed the group till 1938. He was succeeded by Jehangir Ratanji Dadabhoy Tata. The group expanded significantly under him with the establishment of Tata Chemicals (1939), Tata Motors and Tata Industries (both 1945), Voltas (1954), TataTea (1962), Tata Consultancy Services (1968) and Titan Industries (1984). Ratan Tata, the incumbent chairman of the group succeeded JRD TATA in 1991.

TATA SONS
Tata Sons is a promoter of the key companies of the Tata Group and holds the bulk of shareholding in these companies. It was established as a trading enterprise by Group founder Jamsetji Tata in 1868. The chairman of Tata Sons has traditionally been the chairman of the Tata Group. Tata Sons is the owner of the Tata name and the Tata trademark, which are registered in India and several other countries. Tata companies are governed by the Brand Equity and Business Promotion Agreement, which is signed by Tata Sons and individual Group companies.

About 66 per cent of the equity capital of Tata Sons is held by philanthropic trusts endowed by members of the Tata family. The biggest two of these trusts are the Sir Dorabji Tata Trust and the Sir Ratan Tata Trust, which were created by the families of the sons of Jamshedji Tata.

Tata Motors
Tata motors ltd. is part of the Tata Group of companies with its headquarters in Mumbai, India. Tata Motors India was established in 1945 to manufacture locomotives, however it quickly diversified its business interests in 1954 in collaboration with Daimler-Benz. Tata Motors produced its first commercial vehicle. Tata Motors has manufacturing plants in Jamshedpur, Lucknow, Ahmedabad and Pune. Tata Motors is one of the largest passenger and commercial automobiles companies in India. In 2006 the International Organisation Of Motor Vehicles Manufactures, ranked Tata Motors as the worlds 20th largest automakers based on that years performance. After years of dominating the commercial vehicle market in India, Tata Motors entered the passenger vehicle market in 1991 by launching the Tata Sierra, a multi utility vehicle. After the launch of three more vehicles, Tata Estate (1992), a stationwagon design based on the earlier 'TataMobile' (1989), a light commercial vehicle), Tata Sumo (LCV, 1994) and Tata Safari (1998, India's first sports utility vehicle). Tata launched the Indica in 1998, the first fully indigenous passenger car of India. Though the car was initially panned by auto-analysts, the

car's excellent fuel economy, powerful engine and aggressive marketing strategy made it one of the best selling cars in the history of the Indian automobile industry. A newer version of the car, named Indica V2, was a major improvement over the previous version and quickly became a mass-favourite. Tata Motors also successfully exported large quantities of the car to South Africa.The success of Indica in many ways marked the rise of Tata Motors

Tata Sierra (1991)


The Tata Sierra, or the Tata Sierra Turbo, was a three door sport utility vehicle produced by Tata Motors of India.It was the first automobile to be designed and produced in India. The vehicle also forms the basis for DC Design's Arya Concept vehicle. The Sierra is powered by a 1.9 litre turbodiesel. Initially it had a naturally aspirated engine but later versions were Turbocharged. The later version had distinguishable plastic fender flares and remodelled headlamps based on the Tata Estate. Tata used to provide 4WD models on special request. The car was the first diesel vehicle to be accepted as a personal car in India. It featured some firsts for Indian cars, such as adjustable steering. Other features included power windows, power steering and a tachometer. Production ended in 1998.

Tata Estate (1992)


The Tata Estate is a MUV car produced by the Tata Motors.It was the company's first attempt at building a car.The car was considered fairly advanced during its time and had many features which were not common among cars in India at the time including power windows, power steering and a tachometer.The car performed better than expected, but was out

of production due to its lack of a powerful engine. The car had the TATA 207 Engine.

Tata Sumo (1994)


Tata Sumo is a multi-utility vehicle produced by India's Tata Motors. The vehicle was released in 1997 and was one of the first passenger vehicles designed in India. The Sumo received an extensive facelift in 2004 and was renamed the Sumo Victa in face of competition from relatively modern competitors. The new Sumo Victa released in 2004 featured power windows, power steering, dual AC, central locking, clear lens multi reflector head lamps, crystal finish tail lamp cluster, anti glare ORVMS with electronic control, remote keyless entry, tachometers, LCD monitors, voice warnings, multiple trip odometers are all either standard or available options. Tata launched the Sumo Grande (2008-2010) on January 10, 2008 powered with a new generation 2200 cc 120 bhp DICOR (Direct Injection Common Rail) engine. It is named after the Sumo due to its success. It features completely different body work.

Tata Safari (1998)


The Tata Safari is an SUV (sport utility vehicle) produced by Tata Motors of India. It is the first SUV to be designed, developed and manufactured "entirely" in India Tata safari was first released in 1998 with 1.9 litre turbo diesel engine. The Safari was extensively modified in August 2005, which included the addition of a new 3-litre DiCOR engine along with modified interiors and exteriors In October 2007 Tata unveiled the 2.2-litre Safari DiCOR which had an increased

power output of 143 PS (105 KW). But it was shortly replaced by the more advanced DiCOR 2.2 vtt (Variable Turbine Technology).It is widely regarded as the best engine used by Tata Motors. Tata recently launched a new variant of safari called safari GX. The new Safari GX sits just below current top end variant Safari VX. Safari Gx gets dual tone exteriors, unique leather cum fabric upholstery, Reverse Guide System.

Tata Indica (1998)


On 30 December 1998, Tata Motors introduced the most modern car ever to be designed by an Indian company: the Indica. Marketed with slogans like "The Big... Small Car" and "More car per car," the ad campaign focused on roomy interiors and affordability. Within a week of its unveiling in 1999, the company received 115,000 bookings. Tata Nano (2008)


The Tata Nano, dubbed the peoples car, is the least expensive production car in the world. It is a city car launched by India's Tata Motors at the 9th annual Auto Expo on January 10, 2008 at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi, India. The standard version of the

Nano will cost Rs 100,000. The choice of price has led to the Nano being called the "one lakh car". 10 feet long and 5 feet wide Tata Nano has 4 doors where five passengers can easily move. 623cc two cylinder engine with 33 horsepower has a capability to run 65 miles per hour. It has been included air bags or antilock brakes ever air conditioning, a radio, or power steering but u can add it by paying extra. Targetting to the middle class people.

Tata Steel
Tata Steel is the world's sixth largest steel manufacturer. It operates in more than 20 countries and has a commercial presence in over 50. The company was established in Jamshedpur, India, in 1907. In the past few years, Tata Steel has invested in Corus (UK, renamed Tata Steel Europe), Millennium Steel (renamed Tata Steel Thailand) and NatSteel Holdings (Singapore). With these, the company has created a manufacturing and marketing network in Europe, South East Asia and the Pacific-rim countries. It has the capacity to produce over 30 million tonnes of crude steel every year. The company produces crude steel and basic steel products, and makes steel for building and construction applications through Tata BlueScope Steel, its joint venture with Australia's BlueScope Steel. Tata Steel has also set up joint ventures for the development of limestone mines in Thailand, the procurement of low-ash coal from Australia and coking

coal from Mozambique, and the setting up of a deep-sea port in Orissa in India. The company is exploring opportunities in the titanium dioxide business in Tamil Nadu, India, and will soon be producing high carbon ferrochrome from its plant in South Africa.

1. Agriculture: The Tata group has established itself as a (a)
leading provider of agricultural implements, products and services. Agricultural Tools Tata Agrico, a division of Tata steels, makes a range of agricultural hand tools including hoes, stickles, pick-axes, hammers, shovels, crowbars and garden tools. Agrochemicals Rallis manufactures a range of pesticides, insecticides, herbicides, fungicides for rice, cotton, vegetables and other crops, specifically targeted to meet the requirements of Indian farming community.
