TIE-OFF ANCHOR INSTALLATION To inform the field how to install a tie-off anchor. Komatsu has announced the availability of tie-off anchor (58B-98-75190). This anchor can be welded to the bottom of the deck or the bottom of the dump body. The anchor must be used as a part of a Personal Fall Restraint System.

NOTE: Tie-off anchor (58B-98-75190) must be installed in accordance with this procedure.

WELDING GUIDELINES Follow the guidelines that are outlined in Parts and Service News, Field Welding for Assembly or Repair (AA00046C), Welding Manual I (SEBF14001), and Welding Manual II (SEBF15002). It is important that these instructions are read, fully understood, and followed.

Tie-Off Anchor Installation:


1. Find a location on a channel or bolster to mount the tie-off anchor. Refer to Figures 1 and 2 for an acceptable mounting location. NOTE: The anchor must only be mounted in the cross hatched area. DO NOT mount anchors on the right and left platforms, radiator hood, deck plates, cab floor plate, canopy plate, diagonal brace, control cabinet, or above the front tires.

Page 4 of 4 2. Once a suitable location is found, remove the paint from the welding surface before welding. 3. Weld the anchor using a 3 mm (0.12 in) fillet weld. The thinnest base metal is 2.65 mm (0.104 in.) thick. Weld as shown in Figure 3. NOTE: DO NOT weld the anchor on the bottom of the channel. The anchor must be welded on a side vertical wall of a channel or a bolster. The anchor must be aligned parallel to it.

4. Stick or MIG welding is used with a minimum of 490 MPa shield gas. 5. After welding, grind, sand, prime and paint to prevent corrosion. Paint color should be in accordance with local tie-off guidelines. 6. Anchors that are installed with this procedure must comply with OSHA standard 1910.66 APPC. NOTE: DO NOT use anchors for lifting. DO NOT weld anchors to the following components: Engine, alternator, frame or cab Radiator Tanks Hoist cylinders and accumulators Brake cabinet Ladders, stairways, and guard rails Retarding grid and blower Control cabinet Axles and suspensions
