5. Recommendations

1- Public Campaign
In Prey Veng province, youth between the ages of 14-25 tend to

migrate with other youth, experienced migrants or brokers without proper information about the risk of migration.
40 youth was unrolled in a self-development program that

leads to the main event of the Campaign. Through this program, youth were informed on various issues related to migration and trained on life skills to help build their self-confidence to make informed decision.
Even if the program ended, youth who participated in the self-

development program formed a youth association to act as watchdog and were able to report situation of migration from their communities to local authorities. Also, they conducted safe migration activities in their communities and in school to influence the younger generation.

2- Community Awareness Raising

Unscrupulous recruiters cheat poor people out of money with

promise that they will find jobs with good pay abroad, particularly in South Korea. They normally ask people to pay between us$ 500 and us$1,300 in advance for paper arrangement.
The awareness raising on legal and safe migration, exploitation and trafficking for the people in a local community was

conducted with distribution of leaflets containing contact information for help.

Few days later, a participant (most of them are victim or

family of victim) in its awareness raising session called and requested information. They were recruited by unknown people and promise to find work in Korea. The victim requested legal service. The recruiters were arrested.

3- Radio Talk Show

Cambodian men (estimated to be several thousands)

have been exploited on Thai fishing boats in Thailand Malaysia and other countries.
Radio talk show (the participation of expert guest

speakers and victims)

Participation of a victim arouses a lot of interest and

attract callers than usual (record of callers). As a result, family members of the victims called local partners for help.

4- Anti-Human Trafficking Day

Women and girls are trafficked for sexual and labor

exploitation
COMMIT Cambodia, led by MOWA, organizes

annual Anti-Human Trafficking day (December 12). To back up the event during the day time, a special concert TOP MUSIC is held in the evening in which famous young performers participate.
The event was successful as a lot of high ranking officials

participated in the event, for instance the First Lady of the Kingdom of Cambodia, a Deputy Prime Minister, Ministers, Secretaries of State and others.

RECOMMENDATIONS
1. Before project activities start, a needs assessment

should be conduct to identify real needs and issues

2. Awareness should link with community-based

livelihoods, for instance vegetable farming and animal husbandry

3.Communication and cooperation within governments

and partners in the GMS and beyond should be strengthened.
