We are a non-profit, non-stock, college-based student organization of the University of the Philippines College of Medicine, the premier medical institution in the country. TRP PROFILE
WHAT IS

TRP?

Tao Rin Pala, or TRP, as it is more fondly called and remembered, is an annual university-wide variety show and concert held in the University of the Philippines Manila. TRP is considered the grandest and most exciting event in UP Manila, and has been, for the past 37 years, a hallmark of the university calendar.

TRP began in 1973 as a song-writing and chorale competition between batches of the UP College of Medicine. The show was initially born in response to the prevailing clamor that members of the medical profession, especially those from UP, have been losing their sense of humanity. Thus, TRP was created to be a venue for medical students to take a break from their busy schedules, loosen up, relax, explore their often-neglected artistic sides, and proclaim: Tao rin kami!

Through the years, it has grown to showcase song and dance performances by students and staff from the different organizations and colleges of UP Manila, as well as by doctors from various departments of the Philippine General Hospital, while still retaining the tradition of the original chorale competition. It is now one of the universitys biggest celebrations and most widely-attended and anticipated events. As a mark of its enormous scale, TRP was given the distinction of being the Opening and Closing Ceremonies of UP Manilas Centennial Year Celebrations last 2008.

TRP FOR A CAUSE
Now in its 38th year, TRP continues to evolve and set greater aims. 2011 marks the first year of TRP for a Cause, where proceeds from the show will be donated to a deserving beneficiary. This years beneficiary is the New Vois Association of the Philippines. The New Vois Association of the Philippines (NVAP) is a non-profit, non-government advocacy organization composed mainly of throat cancer victims or of people without vocal cords who speak through alternative means. Voice impairment is one of the recognized disabilities in the Philippines, and many people who acquire this disability do so because of the effects of throat cancer which develop due to cigarette smoking and tobacco use. Thus, NVAPs activities revolve around three main issues: 1) tobacco control, 2) cancer support and control and 3) persons with disabilities (PWD) advoscacies. It is the Associations aim to promote a smoke-free lifestyle, control throat cancer prevalence, and aid and empower speech-impaired PWDs. In 2006, NVAP was awarded the Shigehara Award for the most outstanding laryngectomy club in Asia by the Asian Federation of Laryngectomy Associations. Its current president, Emer Rojas, was awarded the most outstanding PWD by the UP-PGH College of Rehabilitation Medicine. He is currently the Global Cancer Ambassador of the American Cancer Society.

By sponsoring TRP, your company will have access to publicize to approximately 1,500 people in attendance during the event, as well as to the whole UP Manila and PGH community through advertising campaigns during the pre-event season. Pre-event advertising will consist of a special 100-day countdown, print advertisements placed in strategic locations all around the UPM campus and PGH, numerous AVPs played around the campus and accessible through various social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter, online promotions through the MSS website, and a week-long fair for booths inside the campus.

TRP PROFILE
On the night of the event, there will be adequate exposure time before and after the show, and during hosting segments in between performances. TRP is held in the Fleur de Lis Auditorium of the St. Paul University of Manila, which has ample room for tarpaulins inside and outside the auditorium, and for food stalls and booths outside the auditorium.

Given the scope of TRP, you will be able to advertise to a wide variety of individuals, from college and medical or postgraduate students, to professors and medical doctors, and to university and hospital officials and staff. More importantly, sponsoring this years TRP is an opportunity to aid an often neglected, marginalized and underprivileged sector of society. Your contributions will help the NVAP give a voice to people who have lost theirs because of illness and disease. Donations made to MSS for TRP are tax-deductible.
