On 5/22/71, Ambassador ROBERT C. HILL, American Embassy, Madridj Spain, advised that the above-captioned individual had paid .a courtesy visit to -his office 'on .5/21/71. Dr. LAOTOS .claimed to, be in Spain for the purpose of reviewing Fulbrigb^t scholarships. He further advised that he was connected with tho University ,pf California and that ^xe was a staunch anti-tfomraunist. The Ambassador further advised tha^ LANTOS had informed hiia that he, LANTOS, inspite. of being a staunch anti-Communist, was able to trayeX freely to Hungary where he encountered no problems,, The Ambassador informed LANTOS that he, the Ambassador^ although in possession of valid Hungarian visas, was not permitted to enter Hungary in late February, 1959, presumably because of his' known anti-Conuaunist J>z?siti6ri LANTOS advised the Ambassador, tnat he was .sure he could arrange for the Anbassador and the members of his family to visit Jluhgary, suggesting that such a visit be done in Augus.t of 1971, since he LAKTOS, planned to be there, during that time-, " j" LANTOS also informed the Ambassador that he was happy to see the Spanish Foreign .Minister-, GREGORIO LOPEZ BRAVO, opening Spain's.policy towards, thfe Eastern Coimaunist block countries.
