and electrical engineering, design, fabrication, assembly, and equipment validation. Being custom machinery, the group will entertain all equipment requests and partner with specialty equipment providers when necessary to provide a complete package. We have developed machinery for all of current manufacturing locations and also support turnkey and outside sales opportunities. As of May 1st, our group started operations under a separate profit center known as MGS Automation. To accommodate the space required for t h i s growth, the team recently moved into a 14,288 square foot building within the Presidents Business Center in Germantown, just a few miles east of the MGS headquarters. Operating from a separate location will support the departments growth while establishing a focus center for proper validation and training on new equipment. The department is currently working on or has recently completed development of the following equipment: Medical Device Assembly Inspection and assembly of a two-piece drug delivery device at 320 PPM (Parts Per Minute). When completed in January 2012, this machine will be located in the TecStar Germantown clean room. 3 M D i s p o s a b l e Sp ra y B a r re l A s s e m b l y A fully automated assembly machine for the 3M Disposable Paint Barrel was completed in August. The addition of this equipment allows fully automated assembly and vision inspection over the former manual equipment. With the launch of a new two-shot barrel mold built by MGS, the assembly cell supports the increase in volume while reducing manufacturing costs. The team will be holding an open house in October to give customers an opportunity to visit the new facility and learn more about the departments capabilities.

Every year there is an increasing demand for automation capabilities within the United States. Manufacturing within the U.S. requires improved quality, increased production capability, and reduced labor cost in order to remain competitive with oshore manufacturing. In an eort to provide a single source for tooling, manufacturing, and equipment, MGS has put an emphasis on increasing the capabilities of engineered automated equipment. The demand for automated equipment built within our organization has never been better. We oer many advantages to our customers by developing the equipment within the same vicinity as the tooling and manufacturing. At the same time, MGS benefits by having support resources and parts on hand to ensure maximum equipment up-time and on-site technical support. By coupling our internal IS resources, weve been able to provide solid data acquisition and quality control measures which tie into our production reporting systems. This marriage of automated quality control and manufacturing make it impossible for our customers to receive non-forming product based on 100% product traceability.

In the past nine months, MGS has added four new members to the automation department to oset the increase in workload. The department specializes in mechanical

MGS MFG. GROUP INTERVIEWED BY NATIONAL NEWS CHANNEL

On Tuesday, August 16, MGS Mfg. Group was visited by FOX News Channel to be interviewed for a national story regarding the difculties manufacturers face with filling certain job positions during a time when many people continue to search for work. FOX News Reporter John Roberts wanted to get a better understanding of what type of jobs are most difcult to ll and what can be done to close that gap. As he learned during his interview with Tricia Hambly, MGS Senior Director of Human Resources, there is a shortage of skilled labor available to the industrial sector at present requiring a need for manufacturers to create training programs and a drive to push manufacturing career path development at the high school and college level. MGS already has such programs in place and continues to work with area schools to keep students educated on the vast number of careers available in manufacturing.
