Prologue
There have been uncountable big and small disasters, one after another for the last few months worldwide. Each year the signs of global warming increase and intensify. Environmental pollution and unpredictable weather changes are starting to severely impact the lives of human beings. However, Nature, has been feeling it coming for much longer. What is happening to the Earth? What will happen to Earth in the future? The Earth itself and the numerous animals, plants and constituents which are its family, say Earth is not the space which exists only for the use of human beings. All the creatures including animals, plants and even invisible microorganism and inanimate beings are equivalent members of the Earth and have their own right to live on the Earth as a part of the family. They also say the Earth is not just emotionless ground, but is an organism that is alive and responds and reacts. Human beings, who are guilty for environmental destruction and disturbance to the eco-system, have to wake up in a hurry from the illusion which has been created by the human-centered ideas and rampant material civilization. For every action, there is a reaction; and all the accumulated actions of human beings which have gone against nature, will have to be corrected somehow. If the forthcoming crisis is inevitable as they say, what should we do now and how? The other family members of the Earth are appealing to us with tears, saying the crisis is not the matter of an individual but is a common issue that has to be solved by all the members of the Earth who share the same destiny and the only ones who can overcome the impending crisis are the 4

human beings themselves. They also told us that we should remember that saving the Earth is not something huge and difficult to do, but can be achieved through small actions which originate from the correct understanding of the Earth and from loving the Earths family. What we need now is the fast change of the majority of human beings. The flow of the change always begins from me. The meditation trainees of Suseonjae, who have started to communicate with the Earth and its family, have contributed the messages they have received to make this booklet in an attempt to spur change, as they have realized the truth about the Earths crisis and the severe pains of the Earths family. The voices of nature, full of pain are urging the awakening of human beings. All of them hope we humans recover our own position as the guardians for the Earth, which is the original role of human beings. Putting small actions into practice with love and concern and share them with others around us, as members of the Earth and also its guardian will make the beginning to create a gigantic flow of change, wont it? The Earth and its family hopes that love and concern from you, who is reading their messages can guarantee the beautiful co-existence of nature and human beings. 1. The Economic Crisis of 2011 Recounted by Honeybees

There has been a massive surge in honeybee deaths Will humanity perish if honeybees disappear? What truth are the bees trying to convey? Mr. Honeybee! Could I have a moment of your time? I'm sure that you're aware of the fact that the sudden disappearance of bees worries many beekeepers. Everyone is incredulous and they don't know how they'll be able to continue farming. We have been waiting to meet you for a long time. I'm sure that this sentiment is shared by many creatures on Earth. As you know, we honeybees are much more sensitive to environmental changes than humans are and we're able to know many things that escape the notice of

humans. In order to get your attention and convey our message to you at any cost, we've been acting strangely. You must understand that the Earth is in imminent danger. Bees are sometimes called the 'barometer' of nature and are considered to be environmental indicators. Why are bees so sensitive to environmental conditions compared to other insects? Its correct to say that bees are nature's barometer. Just as canaries can alert you to the level of air pollution, bees can serve as indicators of environmental contamination. Bees can only survive in clean environments because when compared to other insects, we only possess half the genes for the regulation of detoxification and immunity. This is why honeybees are especially vulnerable to pathogens. Bees spend most of their time in hives built out of wax, and when there are contaminants or dead bees inside, they are immediately taken out of the hive to maintain a sterile environment. When bees get sick, they lose their sense of direction and become unable to find their way home. When the level of contaminants is excessive and the colony cannot relocate, bees seal the hive with propolis1 so that pathogens cannot enter. This is because we cannot survive in contaminated environments. Up to a certain threshold of environmental pollution we actively pollinate flowers, helping plant species flourish, which has the benefit of increasing the amount of oxygen in the atmosphere. When the level of environmental pollution exceeds this threshold, leaving us unable to cope, we die off as a sign that the environment is too contaminated. If we die, flowers will not get pollinated and will therefore fail to bear fruit, which is a direct signal to humans of the serious level of environmental pollution. Albert Einstein once said, "If the bee disappeared off the surface of the globe then man would only have four years of life left." Mass honeybee deaths have already started occurring in different

places around the world, causing some people to worry about the future, while others view this as a temporary phenomenon. What is the role of bees in the eco-system that would give rise to such a gloomy hypothesis? As you know, plants cannot fertilize themselves. Someone has to play the role of catalyst for pollination to occur and that someone is the honeybee. In return, we get to eat nectar as nourishment. It's no exaggeration to say that humankind has come to enjoy abundance thanks to the honeybee. Today honeybees are responsible for pollinating about 80% of all flowers, and 90% of all fruits. But 90 to 95% of all honeybees have already suffered mass deaths. All the flowers, fruit trees, and grains that were pollinated by bees will not be able to bear fruit without us. Already in the case of some fruits, pollination is manually carried out by people using brushes, but nothing can replace insects, especially honeybees, as pollinators. If we disappear, the harvest of fruits and grains will decrease while the number of plant species will also decline, causing an unavoidable decrease in the number of plant species and animals, because animals will have less to eat. It goes without saying that humans will no longer be able to count on an abundance of food. Unfortunately, the time of crisis is already upon us. While extreme temperatures have caused a string of natural disasters, the decrease in the number of plants has resulted in less oxygen and more carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, thereby exacerbating the problem of abnormal temperatures. If what the honeybees are saying is true and living things on Earth are dying from pollution, what's the reason for the recent spike in the frequency of earthquakes and other natural disasters? They are occurring more often and with more intensity, which seems to cast doubt on a natural cause.

Honeybees, humans, and all the animals and plants in nature are part of a single living organism, the Earth. Catastrophic natural disasters occurring around the globe are actually the response of the Earth's weakened immune system which is struggling to restore life. That's proof that the Earth wants to live. Living organisms including animals, plants, and humans are also suffering from a great loss of immune function, just like the Earth. The Foot and Mouth Disease that is raging throughout Korea and the 'Super Bacteria' which have shocked the world are only some of many diseases which can threaten animals and humans with weakened immunity. These are powerful warnings to human beings. In the Autumn of 2006, there was a mass death of honeybees in the US. The honeybee mortality rate subsequently increased such that the number of bees, which had reached 6 million during WWII fell below 2 million. Once the bees began disappearing, people proposed various reasons for the deaths, including IAPV (Israeli Acute Paralysis Virus) and others, but they couldn't prove a direct causal relationship.
Is Honeybee Colony Collapse Disorder (CCD)2 which started appearing a few years ago in the United States, Europe, and now worldwide, also related to your warning? What is the actual cause of CCD and what is the solution? Everybody is rushing to report about the honeybees' disappearance. But only a small majority knows exactly why we're disappearing. Look at the environment we now live in. Human greed is endless. Beekeepers steal all of our staple food, honey, and replace it with sugar or corn syrup; and in order to increase honey production, humans find an

area with lots of flowers and then frequently transport our hives by truck to faraway locations, which makes it hard for us to adjust. Feeding us pesticides and antibiotics only prolongs our suffering. Honeybees, with their compromised immune systems from a polluted environment, cannot cope anymore. Stress from frequent moves, malnutrition from sugar syrup or syrup made from genetically modified corn, pesticides and antibiotics, viral scourges, and extreme temperatures... All of these factors weaken honeybees' detoxification ability as well as their immunity, a situation that virtually guarantees that they will get sick. If bees get sick from any one of the factors described above, they lose their sense of direction, and become unable to find their way home, spelling their doom. However, the biggest reason for CCD is the electromagnetic radiation from cell phones. Rather than directly affecting honeybees, electromagnetic waves from cell phones are absorbed into the Earth's outer core where they generate electromagnetic interference that destabilizes the Earth's magnetic field and causes bees to lose their sense of direction. Disoriented bees which wander around, unable to find their hives, will eventually die. It's hard to believe the root cause are cell phones...But cell phones are indispensable for modern humans, and have become necessities. People are greatly aided by cell phones' communication features in addition to other conveniences. I cannot imagine life without my cell phone. Yes, we know. But aren't cell phones the items that best represent humankind's expediency, selfishness, and growing distance from the sounds of nature? Moreover, electromagnetic waves from cell phones are powerful enough to disrupt the Earth's magnetic field. Even adults can suffer from headaches and severe fatigue after long mobile phone calls. Of course, such effects are more severe for children and adolescents. In particular,

children's immunity is weak, their bodies absorb materials quickly, and they are quick to adapt, meaning that they also absorb electromagnetic radiation more rapidly. Children and teenagers have more risks than benefits from cell phones, so it's hard to understand why they need to carry one. Humans are especially vulnerable to superficial things, opening their hearts and eyes to such glamour. The danger from cell phone electromagnetic radiation is much more serious than I thought. But most people today are accustomed to carrying around cell phones in their daily lives. We can't get rid of all cell phones immediately, and new models are being produced all the time. How do you suggest we solve this problem? Above all, people must try to reduce their cell phone use. Even though it is a convenience of the modern world that cannot be discarded easily, it should only be used when absolutely necessary for as short a time as possible. Spending your time on a cell phone for idle chatting will cause grave harm to you and to nature, and is a fact you must be aware of. Nature is finite and must be used according to natural laws. Excessive exploitation of nature and civilized tools will soon bring great calamity to humankind. In terms of beekeeping as well, nature's way must be followed with humans doing their best to create a natural environment in which bees can survive. I thought that cell phones simply provided convenience. Come to think of it, countless numbers of people around the world use cell phones but if the Earth's magnetic field is being affected, there must be a huge amount of electromagnetic waves being generated. From now on I'll try to only use my cell phone when it's absolutely necessary. It is predicted that global warming will accelerate and that more animals and plants will die or go extinct, but you mentioned earlier that many people think, "There won't be any big problems

during my lifetime," or "Even if one person changes his/her habits it will just be a drop in the ocean" and other skeptical thoughts. For people with such misgivings do you have any words to share? As I said earlier, currently Earth is in imminent danger. Not much time is left. You might think "Even if one person changes his/her habits it will just be a drop in the ocean," but this one person can also be positively viewed as a chance to transform global crisis into opportunity. It can be said that the universe is moved by the power of consciousness. Although the lifestyle changes of a single person cannot transform the entire Earth, an individual's determination not to harm the environment can have a big impact on transforming the Earth. 'The 100th Monkey'3 might be a story that you're familiar with. It is said that monkeys did not originally wash sweet potatoes before eating them. But once one or two monkeys began to wash their sweet potatoes before eating, the practice gradually spread. Once the 100th monkey was washing its sweet potatoes before eating, all the monkeys in a 1000 mile radius started doing so. Global changes can originate from a mere individual. For an individual to avoid harming the environment, they should start with easy tasks first. One should reduce the use of electrical appliances, minimize cell phone use, reduce the amount of trash one produces, and use water sparingly. This kind of nature-friendly attitude and practical action can change the surrounding area. Once this attitude spreads and the "100th Monkey" threshold is reached, the power of this consciousness has the potential to transform the entire world. In the

2. The Polar Bears' Warning of a Global Deluge

The melting tears of the North Pole threaten many places in the world with flooding. Polar bears watch hopelessly as the ice melts. What does Earth look like to them? One day while watching TV, I saw a troubling image that made me want to talk to the polar bears. A polar bear standing on a melting slab of glacier looking bewildered as it searches for another glacier to move to. As soon as I requested a chat with the polar bears, I felt warmth from within. Perhaps all creatures on earth are originally this clear, bright, and warm. I'm so glad that you accepted my request to talk. After seeing the

MBC documentary, 'Tears of the Arctic' in which a mother bear was playing with her cubs, I realized that animals, just like people, transcend instinct and can share emotions. Do animals have feelings? What a strange question to ask! We do indeed have emotions! Depending on the degree of evolution, however, the range of feelings varies among animals. Humans are the most evolved species on this planet, so they can feel the most complex and diverse emotions. I've heard in the mass media that a significant amount of the ice cover in the North Pole has disappeared. I feel sorry that I don't know exactly what's going on there because I live so far away. I want to know what's really happening there from one who has experienced it. What is the biggest challenge for you? We used to have our own foraging paths, but they suddenly disappeared. The ice is melting so fast that many of us drown when we try to move across breaking ice floes, while others die of starvation because there is not enough ice left for the animals which are our food to live and breed on. Due to hunger, we have approached human habitats in search of food, but are sometimes killed while rummaging through trash and sometimes we prey on younger polar bears, just to eke out an existence... because we could not endure our hunger. It's a very gruesome reality. I've heard that polar bears don't travel in herds, preferring to travel alone, so how do you know of the unfortunate events that have befallen other polar bears? We are capable of exchanging information with each other. But such skills are not unique to us, as other living things also have this ability. We can share information about experiences and environmental situations with others of our kind. And we feel pain for our brethren who are suffering through difficult circumstances. Even though we know the situation of our kin, we are powerless to help them and this fact saddens us even

more. Humans have put us into a very agonizing situation in which we cannot even maintain a basic existence. Polar bears spend most of their time on the ice, hunting for survival and also reproducing there. They require an average of 45 seals annually for sustenance. As glaciers are disappearing due to global warming, however, seals are no longer able to clamber up onto the ice, depriving many polar bears of food, thereby leading to their starvation. In addition, polar bear cubs are starving to death due to mother bears' lack of milk.
As the temperature rises in the Arctic, a movement to curb global warming is on the rise. Meanwhile, this is improving the accessibility of the Arctic, leading to a scramble to claim resources there, and some people are even talking of opening up an Arctic passage. We are amazed at humans' endless greed and once again we are stunned by the selfish short-sightedness of man. But if one stops to consider the reason for this behavior, we see that people regard the Earth as their possession and believe that they are free to change the Earth at any time using any method; this attitude is the root of humanity's problems. Thus humans carve up the Earth for their exclusive convenience. The development plan of the Arctic is pretty much the same story. Despite clear signs that the Earth is ailing and that this will negatively impact humankind, people inexplicably continue to simply chase money and seek their own comfort. These actions probably stem from ignorance and a refusal to face the truth. Yes, I think people really dont know how bad the situation is. How seriously do the Polar Bears take the current threat to their survival? To explain by example, consider the case in which a human is placed in a

large container full of water, with the human and the water taking up 90% of the available space. Then close the lid. Air would not be able to enter. Guess what will happen? The human will only be able to breathe the air remaining in the 10% of the container that is free. Once that air is gone, no more air from the outside can enter. This describes the current state of the Earth. However, humans don't know the situation is that serious. A bigger problem is that even if they are exposed to information about the problem, they're not interested, saying, "Things will be alright during my lifetime," an attitude that shows their easy-going manner and their lack of awareness. Do other animals of the Arctic feel threatened, including seals, fish, or birds? All of us feel the same way. We're terrified... On the other hand, however, we've been preparing for this future's arrival. If humankind does not change, the current situation will only get worse. How are Arctic animals preparing for the future? If humans do not change, we will have no choice but to receive the full brunt of the coming catastrophe. It is our fate. However, humankind must recognize that the impact of glaciers' future disappearance will fall most heavily on them. Right now, Tuvalu, the Maldives, the Republic of Kiribati, and other island nations are faced with disappearing within this century. In addition to these countries, are other cities and countries located near sea level at risk from future climate change? Nothing can be ruled out at this point. There will be no refuge from the effect of natural disasters, if humankind continues down its current path. As the sinking of certain landmasses accelerates, other regions will face increasingly severe drought. Now all creatures on the Earth,

with the exception of humankind, know that they face imminent crisis. Do you know the adage, "The one who ties a knot must untie it?" Only humankind can resolve the current crisis. This is why all creatures are doing their best to inform humans. In August 2010, an area of 100km2 with a height of 167m, representing one quarter of the Petermann Glacier sloughed off of the main ice shelf located at the northernmost part of Greenland. This was the largest such separation in 48 years.
Among people who know the seriousness of the situation, there is a movement afoot to inform the public of the facts through video footage. Several years ago, a documentary about the Arctic garnered unprecedented interest, and was made into a movie the following year. Many people were impressed by the film because it gave them a chance to become more aware about the environment. However, most people were only touched while actually watching the film, and soon forgot about environmental issues. In fact, I feel dubious about the ability for such changes in awareness to directly lead to changes in the Earth's environment. I'll let you in on a mysterious secret of our world. The Earth is one giant organism made up of connections between all living things. It's just like the human body. If someone on one side of the globe saves a cup of water, the same cup of water can be put to good use on the opposite end of the world. If people are moved in the way you mentioned earlier, but soon forget about environmental awareness, this will be of no help. The important thing is that practical action, however small, is needed. Practical action, however small, is important indeed! Perhaps what modern humans need most isn't alternative energy development but a reduction in their desire to live better than others. Do you have anything else you'd like to say to promote

healthier and humbler lives for humankind? First of all, be thankful. Being thankful is the best way for man to learn from nature. Thankfulness is life energy that cannot come from a heart filled with discontent. Approach all things with thankfulness. You say it's hard to be thankful? Just look at us. Our houses are collapsing every day, and most days we go without a single meal. Furthermore, we are losing friends and family in appalling ways. What about humans? Think of how much you have. Just being aware of this will make thankfulness come easily. Second, keep it simple. Humans have too many belongings and lead overly-complicated lives that are anything but simple. Combined with their endless desire to live comfortably, they ignore the other creatures with whom they share the Earth and even go so far as to destroy it. We have some expectations of humans, namely, to become Earth's guardians. Although we're trying to adjust to the environment created by humans, if we fail in this difficult task, we will disappear from the face of the Earth. We all exist to evolve, so we don't want to meet such an end. That's why we would like to tell humankind to simplify their lives. Try to recall life in the past when man lived with nature. Humans received Nature's abundant sustenance and protection. But now Mother Nature is being threatened by the actions of humankind.

3. A Message from the Whales Announcing the Global Crisis

Hundreds of whales are beaching themselves en masse in every corner of the world. Why do whales have no choice but to die in groups? What do they want to say to humans? Not long ago, it was reported that a group of whales had committed suicide off the coast of Australia. Even though the cause of their group suicide remains a mystery, it is said that whale beaching has been on the rise as humans began to seize control of the oceans. I requested an audience with the whales so I could hear their story. As soon as I try to commune with the whales through meditation, I feel their frustration and anger.

Greetings, Mr. Whale. Recently, groups of whales have been dying on beaches. Some say that the whales committed mass suicide. Why are such incidents occurring? We've been looking forward to having this conversation. Whales' mass suicides are really heartbreaking. The underwater environment is terrible right now. Waste and noise make our environment unlivable. Underwater noise in particular deals a fatal blow to our nervous systems. It is the main culprit causing malfunctions in senses that we depend on to determine direction and to catch food. Nowadays, the noise pollution from cell phones, airplanes, ships, submarines, and people are driving us crazy. Noise leads to a reduction in fish and sea creatures, resulting in more empty oceans. Even though we want to live in the ocean, we can't survive there. The whales committing mass suicide were suffering from extreme mental anguish and distress as they had gone many days without food. Such situations are commonplace and never-ending. They thought it would be better to send a message to humans by dying altogether, than by starving one by one, so they committed mass suicide. In every corner of the world, we have witnessed mass whale beachings. In November 2010, the British tabloid 'Daily Mail' released a photo showing 33 dead whales scattered along the County Donegal coastline. Environmental scientists are now investigating the cause of mysterious whale deaths. Shortly thereafter, about 30 to 40 beached whales were spotted on South Uist in the Inner Hebrides.
Is the cause of the recent whale beaching in Southern Australia the same? They knew that the marine environment was too polluted to live in, and they were lost in despair over the future, causing them to kill themselves. It truly pains me when I think about them.

Despite our desperate efforts to alert humans to the Earth's crisis, people initially show simple curiosity about whale beachings and then quickly forget, going back to their normal lives. Although many animals, plants, and humans will be placed in danger, the sea will be reborn into its original, calm, and clear state. Whales are said to be endangered animals. If whales really disappear, what will happen to the ocean? When whales disappear, their prey such as phytoplankton and zooplankton will significantly increase. Although other fish eat them as well, these creatures will soon begin to decompose. Eventually the ecosystem will be disrupted, causing the ocean to rot, which will prevent the Earth from purifying itself. The reduction in phytoplankton will change the climate as well. Reductions in photosynthesis will accelerate global warming and the near future will see tremendous natural disasters occur one after another. Given that the number of whales is already very low, if humankind continues to catch whales for food, the future is clear to see. This is no mere warning, but our reality. Let me tell you what's really going on under the sea. Now many fish are getting stuck in nets abandoned in the sea by fishermen. Sometimes even we get trapped in nets and die, too. People say they've caught "fish worth over $10,000" and value our worth in monetary terms, but we are also members of Earth's family and have the right to live freely. Also, in the process of trying to pry oil from the deep sea, accidents sometimes occur, spilling oil into the sea, thereby worsening marine pollution. Due to the current activities of corporations from the first world, contamination of the sea is spreading significantly. Do you have anything to say to humans? The ocean is associated with vastness, as in the ocean of space, the sea of nature, and the seas of forest. The ocean generously embraces Nature. If humans abandon their bad habits today and strive to restore Nature, they can change the future. 4. Cows Talk About Mad Cow Disease

Our relationship with animals has certainly changed over the years. We cannot say that the change has been positive one Has our consciousness, love and care for animals deteriorated? I came to think so after the following conversation with a cow. Do you have anything to say to humans? It's been a very long time. Basically it began around the time when humans began to appear on Earth. In the beginning only a handful of cows lived with people, but as humans began to live in fixed communities, moving from a hunting-based to an agricultural-based society, our cohabitation began in earnest. We began to live together out of mutual need. We were constantly

threatened by ferocious beasts and we sometimes saw our fellows eaten before our very eyes. Even during peaceful periods, we couldn't let down our guard for even a moment. That's why we became domesticated livestock. Humans guarded our lives and in return we plowed their fields, carried heavy burdens, and worked hard. We obediently followed humankind throughout our lives and in the end we even generously provided our flesh as food for humans. In the past, under the protection of human beings, we could graze to our hearts' content across spacious pastures. At night we stayed in houses that humans built for us, shielded from the wind and rain. We were so happy. After spending a lifetime in service of humankind, how did cows feel about becoming food for people in the end? Yes, life is precious and we felt regret, but while living together with people we received a lot of love. Thinking of this helped us die more comfortably without reproach for humankind. In the cold winter, humans showed concern for us by shielding us from the rain and wind, covering us with blankets, and making hot, steaming bean and straw porridge for us to eat. In addition, humans often cleaned and removed crusted dung and vermin from our bodies, so we truly lived in close proximity to each other. Today, however, that golden age of living in harmony is nothing more than old tale, and we cows feel cursed and full of resentment because now people only focus on producing high-quality beef to increase profits while making us gain weight to improve our taste. We have been betrayed! This is all the doing of greedy and ruthless humans who have transformed the relationship between cows and people. What a pathetic existence! I heard that the corn feed that cows eat nowadays has some problems. Some suspect that feeding cattle corn instead of grass can bring about changes in beef and milk composition. What is the truth? Corn is not suitable for cows. While it is true that we enjoy eating cornstalks and corn leaves, corn kernels are not intended to be eaten by large grazers. Rats, squirrels, chickens, birds and other smaller animals

eat corn. All animals on Earth have, over several thousand years, each selected their preferred diet and have adapted their constitution and habits so that all animals can coexist. Our main food is fresh grass. It's our staple diet. When we used to farm together with humankind, in the winter we couldn't eat enough grass, so even when spring came, we couldn't shed our winter coats and got thinner. When our caretakers saw us in this state, they pitied us and boiled porridge with precious and expensive beans in addition to the straw. To make the porridge more savory, they would add a few handfuls of these expensive ingredients which stimulate our appetite. We ate it more because of the caretaker's love, rather than the bean content in the porridge. Although we had eaten grains normally preferred by humans, now that corn and artificial feed constitutes our entire diet; our bodies, which have adapted to grass-eating over thousands of years, are changing very quickly, unbeknown to casual observers. Our bodies and our milk aren't as healthy as they used to be. Beginning with France in the 1960s, cows were given corn feed instead of hay, giving rise to claims that corn changed the composition of beef and milk. If cattle raised on corn are eaten, obesity, heart disease, and allergies can occur. The body's cell membranes are composed of Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids which occur even in vegetarian-only diets. Among these, Omega-6 plays a role in storing fat, while Omega-3 helps break fat down. The ratio of Omega-6 to Omega-3 fatty acids in corn is imbalanced at the ratio of 66 to 1, respectively, which can cause obesity, diabetes, and other diseases.
Some humans are able to breastfeed their children, but in cases where this is not possible, humans inevitably rely on cows milk. Humans need to reduce their meat consumption, but in cases such as this one, are there any alternatives?

When milk is written in Chinese characters, we can see the characters 'cow' and 'milk.' Milk comes from the udder of a cow. Why would a human suckle a cow's udder? Udders exist to suckle calves. When a mother's milk was insufficient in the past, people first tried to find a wet nurse, and if even that was difficult, they made steamed rice cake, drying it and grinding it to powder. Then it was mixed with honey and sugar before being fed to babies. Families of greater means flavored the mixture with beans, pine nuts, and walnuts. That's how everyone raised healthy babies. Without eating beef, they relied on vegetarian dishes like beans, soybean curd, pine nuts, walnuts, perilla and other foods which provided enough nutrition to make healthy babies. If people stick to a diet of organic vegetarian foods while availing themselves of modern medical technology, life spans can be extended by several times. I'm curious about Mad Cow Disease. The cause of Mad Cow Disease is believed to lie in the feed that abnormal cattle eat, creating altered proteins that attack normal brain cells. In addition, Mad Cow Disease can also occur in humans who have eaten infected beef, and this condition is known in the media as variant shown Creutzfeld-Jakob Disease (vCJD). Although the cause of the illness has been identified in the human world, there still remains the fear of mad cow disease. What is the fundamental solution? The cause of Mad Cow Disease is human greed. This scourge appeared because humankind did not consider us to be living things, but saw us rather as meat. Humans blinded by material goods invented concentrated livestock farming, which utilized all sorts of methods to make us grow in the shortest amount of time possible. In order to maximize profit, the amount of animal feed given to us was reduced, and they made us eat the bones and byproducts of our fellow cows and sheep. All things on Earth circulate through the food chain. But humankind tried to defy this natural principle. Over tens of thousands

of years, animals differentiated into grazers, carnivores, and omnivores. Within these groups they divided into yet more detailed subcategories so that all creatures on Earth could achieve balance within the evolutionary cycle. Cows, which must eat plants, were placed in cramped enclosures by humans, given artificial feed, and finally were made to eat feed mixed with powder made from animal carcasses and byproducts. We had no choice but to eat whether we knew what it was or not. The environment and diet which we had maintained for the past several thousand years changed suddenly one day, requiring our cells to change abnormally just to survive. Each of the abnormal cells in our bodies give rise to Mad Cow Disease, Foot and Mouth Disease and other mutated viruses that transfer over to humans. The unexplained animal diseases appearing today almost all have their root causes in the environment and animal diets. During the past 10 years, 575 cases of mad cow disease in humans (vCJD) have been reported worldwide. Of these, the greatest number of cases were in the UK with 170 cases, followed by 56 cases in Israel, and 25 cases in France. During the same period, 190,000 suspected BSE-infected cattle were slaughtered mostly in the UK. Since the large-scale slaughter of cattle, sheep, and other livestock by the UK government, the spread of Mad Cow Disease has stopped for now but individual cases of infection are still being reported.
What is the fundamental solution for fatal diseases like Mad Cow and other diseases? Prevention of Mad Cow Disease can be accomplished with a very simple measure. Cows, other animals, and plants should be allowed to live naturally. Humankind cannot change the principles of Nature. Only by allowing all creatures to live as close as possible to their natural state can we all survive together. Humankind must realize this fact. Although it's already late, a strand of hope still exists if humankind doesn't dawdle

The Amazon in Brazil, which covers 7,000,000km 2 used to be a treasure box of mother nature that provided oxygen to the entire Earth. However, for the last 30 years, excessive human greed has destroyed 1/5 of its rain forest and every 10 seconds, an area as wide as a soccer playground is disappearing from the rain forest of the Amazon. If this trend continues, before long the Amazon will be erased from the map of the Earth. The Amazon forms part of the Earths base of life; where life is circulated and is protected. It is such a special area formed by a flawless food chain. Now all living creatures in the Amazon are crying out with tears of pain. I knew the human egotism and the development of industrial society would be linked to mammonism. I thought it was just a matter of time and what was to come has come. Do you mean you knew things were supposed to go in this way in advance? A human beings is half good and half evil. They have the attributes of both god and animal at the same time. I knew it when the society accelerated its industrialization, that brought materialism conjoined with human egotism. At some point, human egotism began drawing the history of human supremacy through dominance rather than sharing; resorting to manipulation rather than co-existence and suppression rather than love. In the situation where the Earth is being engulfed at an amazing speed, the Amazon is the most delicious prey, isnt it? I anticipated the crisis from a long time ago the evil decision chosen by humans free will cant be stopped by anybody. What is the meaning of evil? In this case, the meaning of evil is none other than the degenerated situation where the lives of other living beings have meaning to humans only as something consumable. The reaping as much as one has sown function of the Universe will return the appropriate price to human beings, so the tears of the Amazon will become those of pity for human foolishness. No exception can be made for anyone in the reasoning of the Universe. The treasure box of life is being destroyed in this way. Is there any way to reverse this situation? Its already too late. I am curious about the dark underside of human behaviors that commit cruelty to other human races, animals and plants. Why do they do this? That is ignorance. They are going downhill without any room of thinking again about what they are doing. They dont know what place the Earth is, what human beings are and what animals and plants are. They dont know what pain their acts are giving to other living beings and what their deeds will bring about in the future; so they have consistently been accumulating an evil history all over the Earth. Humans have to recover their original status and return the arena of animals and plants to them. The deeds human beings are inflicting on other creatures cannot but be repaid back to people themselves again. Now is the time when the effort to amend the deviation from the right track caused by human egotism must be made. Where does food come from? Where does water come from? Where do our houses come from? These days, because of our distorted economic system, we think that food comes from the local store, or if we are pushed we might say oh, the farmers of course. We think that water is supplied by the water company and that our houses come from the building company We think that we have earned the right to those by paying for them with money. It is because our viewpoint has become distorted. We have become completely separated from Gaia We are so detached from the very entity which feeds and clothes us, which provides us with water and which raises us from a tiny baby into adulthood. As a mother, how do you think she might feel, as her children just take what she gives without ever saying Thank you or having a grateful mind? The farmers who work the land, do not make the vegetables or fruit themselves, they merely assist them to grow. The water which nature provides for free, is only channeled by a company into our homes; and the building materials for our homes were gathered from the soil under our feet, the builders merely assembled them. We have not earned them simply by saying I buy my food and pay for my water bill. Dont we owe Earth a big debt? I have come to think we should treat her with deepest respect and a grateful mind.

In addition, the sea is polluted; so in human terms, you can say I have got arteriosclerosis as my blood has become contaminated. Imagine your blood vessels were full of oil stains and sludge. Even worse, cutting away mountains is the same as cutting away my bones and marrows. Can you imagine how painful it is? I dont have any sound body parts. Oh, you are suffering so much. I am so sorry. I dont even know how I can apologize. I dont have one word to say because I am one of those who have put you in this condition. As your pains are transferred to me, now I can understand what we have done to you. I can feel with my heart why the abnormal weather conditions and natural disasters happen on the Earth. As a matter of fact, human beings are only sensitive to their own benefits or pains. Since last year, natural disasters occurred frequently. The climate is becoming stranger too. Earthquakes occur sporadically. The earthquakes which hit New Zealand and Japan were terrible. The magnitude and intensity of earthquakes varied regionally but they occur continually. Do you have something to say about those? When an earthquake occurs, it does not hit just one place. Many regions are designed to respond simultaneously. Earthquakes in New Zealand and Japan were unusually intense and plates of the Philippines, Korea, China and Myanmar where faintly moved and affected by the earthquakes.

The magnitude and intensity take place moderately and strongly in turn. Earthquakes or volcanic eruptions occur like a musical rhythm. Now it has a weak tempo, but when it gets strong again, any region can explode. When it explodes strongly, it is usually where volcanoes are located and it is highly likely to be along the circum-Pacific belt. Now plates are just warming up like warm up exercise. When it becomes time to start earnestly, the Earth will be hit by many earthquakes all at once like athletes taking off on the starting line. So do you mean that the earthquakes will repeat faint or strong eruptions for some time and when the time comes, they will erupt everywhere on the earth simultaneously? Yes. Like in a rhythm, it goes forte, piano, forte, piano and then it will blast all at once seriously. The heat inside the Earth and the downpour of universe energy are interlocked, so the Earth has no option but to begin its process of adjustment. Then, is it possible to converse with you Gaia about the earthquakes and abnormal weather changes currently popping on the Earth? People should show me their true hearts first. If they really understand, feel sorry about me and approach with true concern, we can talk with each other; and we can discuss whats going to happen, due to what cause. 2. Understanding and Small Actions for the Earth

Even now when I am conversing with you, my heart is sore as your pains are transmitted. Mother, what is the first thing that humans need to be concerned about in order to protect you? First you should understand how the Earth is now. Pay attention to the message that the Earth is now giving. In order to change the world in large, many people need to make an effort at the same time. Even if it is just a small action, when many people participate in it, this will bring about a great change. Do not use disposable products, produce less garbage, grow even a single tree sincerely and so on whatever it is, put one thing for the Earth into practice every day and become awakened; this is the condition I want from you. As the power of human thinking is larger than you expect, when more and more people think that way, I will be influenced by the energy. Then my activity to purify myself will change too. A change in a human mind and a small change in a human action console me deeply; then I will probably change my mind - to live with you together. There is no such mother who does not pay attention to her children when her children make an effort to protect their mother. Show me such efforts and minds. Then I might change my mind too. However, what is a much more dreadful blow than earthquakes or volcanic eruptions is the purification function by water; flood, heavy snowfall or the meltdown of icebergs. Water is so precious for every kind of living beings; when natural disasters strikes, securing drinking water will be the first issue you must deal with. While the Earth is on its way to self-purification, it will be great luck if you can find drinking water for your life. It is highly likely most of water on the Earth will become contaminated or unavailable. Look at the Japans current situation. You can see that water is the most essential issue. Now Japan is importing drinking water from neighboring countries; but if such disasters break out in many countries all at once, no region will survive unless it resolves its water problem. At present, the adjacent sea around Japan is polluted by radioactivity and Korea is also becoming influenced. Water flows, so it can easily affect other areas. Therefore, when natural disasters occur in many different regions, it will become hard to find clean water. I understand. I can feel once again that without water no living beings can survive. Then are there any methods to alleviate the Earths purification function by water? Think about Africas case. Many areas are getting dry and let alone clean water, it is difficult to find even dirty water so that people have to move to faraway places to get water. They have no option but to drink it even though they know that they will become ill or even die if they drink the water. How sincerely do you feel and regard such pains as your own, as a human being living together on the Earth? How sorry do you feel for them and how hard do you strive to solve the problem together? Although many people are dying because of the drinking water issue, the rest of the Earths people are just watching them as if it is just some strangers affair.

What mindset and behavior would help Africans? Your own children and with a true heart visualize family suffering from a lack of water every day and imagine how their bodies and minds are scorching. My mind is none other than the original mind of the Universe. What does it mean that the Earth is a special place even in the Universe? The Earth is the place that is formed with the greatest diversity of creatures and their roles out of the planets in the Universe. It is not a simple or boring place but complicated and diverse; this is the feature of this planet. It contains so many various kinds of creatures that even I, their mother cant remember all of them. The beauty of diversity signifies there are lots of changes; this also means it is highly likely that unexpected things could take place. If unexpected happenings occur due to the variables, how does the Earth, you Mother Gaia handle it? I already regard the variables as the destiny or the factor innate in the life of a life form. However, if they influence too hugely on the eco-system of the earth or many other parts, the Universe takes control of it. Through me, the touch of the Universe works. Also, this goes beyond my control. Mother Gaia, from your viewpoint does the current situation of the Earth have many variables? Yes. We can say that such a big event that can determine the fate of many creatures and the Earth has a variable. And the variable is that which can be changed even by small things. A variable means a factor that affects the change of a certain flow. Now the factor that can affect the Earth is none other than human beings. They are the biggest variable. Animals or plants are already aware of the purification function; they are preparing themselves for it to try to endure such a situation. Human beings will complete the last part of the variable.

What would be the way to change the card that human beings hold now? That is their awakening. They must wake up and fulfill their role as caretakers of the Earth by recovering their own position. Also, they should get themselves ready for evolution through the awakening while preparing for the change of this age. When you see us, are we human beings ready for that? For now, your preparation is insignificant. Only small number of people are aware of the crisis and taking action for it. Some people are approaching it from the aspect of environmentalism. They are not well prepared in terms of their own awakening. Because of the pursuit for the material civilization, the spirituality of many people has been blurred and many are distracted by illusions. They have lost the essence of the meaning of life, while endlessly seeking money and power. One thing I try to put into action is reduce the usage of plastic bags. Whatever I buy, there are no items that dont include plastic bags. Even the amount of plastic bags I use in a day is enormous, so I carry one or two non-disposable bags with me and use them when I need them. Plastic bags seem to cause serious environmental pollution. What do you think about this? Although the plastic bags have become a byword for convenience to human beings, it is the worst headache for me. Numerous plastic bags are being used on the Earth on a daily basis and thrown away as they are. It takes several hundreds of years for a bag to return to nature. And even one person throws many plastics bags away as garbage. What more can I say? For the convenience of human beings, the soil and environment of the Earth are being suffocated and is dying of cancer. If you dispose of materials that soil cant handle, it can no longer incorporate them and

just keeps them. Such areas of intense pollution are increasing and the circulation of the eco-system is collapsing. Please, I ask you to stop using additional plastic bags. The bags do not decompose and will stay where you have buried them for a long, long time. Mother Gaia, let me put things into action as a guardian of the Earth and inform people around of at least one method of loving the Earth. Lets speak again soon. All right. See you again.

1. A Message from Plants - On Sharing Love with the Earth

Hello, plants? When I converse with you plants, I feel I become full of the energy of plants and of love. I hope many people live together with plants and exchange their energies and love with one another. Love for plants, animals and all creations are the expansion of love. Loving plants is a higher dimension of love, so it cannot be compared to love of humans, which is very adhesive. By sympathizing with one another, you can take and give spiritual energy together so that you are able to purify yourself. Humanly love (especially love between a woman and a man) makes you restless, gives pains and wounds to you. Yet, when you show concern for plants and love them more deeply, you will be close to a state of No

Mind. As it lowers your waves, it will purify your mind and body. There is a difference in degree but all contemporary people lack love. The fundamental reason is that they have separated from their original natures. Their yearning, loneliness and sorrow regarding their separation from original nature has degenerated into the desire for humanly love. That is the problem of whole humankind so you can look back on yourself as well. Expand your love to plants, animals and all creations when you feel your lack of love. That is how you sublimate your lack of love. Your love for plants, animals and all creations will give you joy and delight. When you begin to love and put your love into practice, you will come to the origin and you will be filled with love in yourself. When you love plants, you will be in sympathy with them and will resonate with them. Then, you will love plants and send the love of plants. When you love animals, you will be able to express lovable action, intimacy, friendliness, and affection. When you love all creations, you will open a passage of energy to all creations, so you will understand substances, think of co-existence of all creations and be able to know how to put love into practice harmoniously. After that, your love for humans will enter a different dimension, so it will be expanded to all humankind. Do not try to fill a lack of love or a shortage of love with concern from others, but sublimate your lack of love by expanding it towards plants, animals and all creations and grow them. Actions like watering and cultivating vegetables, sowing seeds and watching them grow, taking care of flowers; giving your concern and love to them and picking fruits from trees are also very precious acts in loving oneself. Such deeds will make you feel like s a member of the Universe and will nurture your love. Carefully observe the fresh green sprouts of new life and express gratitude for the sunlight.

2. A Message from Animals - On Changing to a Vegetarian Diet and How to Love the Soil
Mr. Cow, how are you? More and more people are changing to a vegetarian diet. While I converse with you, I learned that the cattle we eat have a lot of problems. For example, a production course such as an inhuman production methods, cruel butchery practices, and the improper use of antibiotics. Food stuff such as corn or other kinds of grains and the wastage of food and water cause considerable environmental pollution. So, more and more people are changing over to a vegetarian diet. That is nice. However, changing to a vegetable diet only with the purpose

to correct something wrong is not so desirable. What do you mean by not desirable? A vegetarian diet that starts from the mind of denying something or making something taboo can be another expression of human desires, just like eating meat. A vegetarian diet should be practiced naturally. Meals should become blessed food that is acquired naturally. There is much food that is in great abundance around humans, but they produce meat, add to many seasonings and the polish rice, taking the goodness out of it. As humans are looking for something very delicious, they created a monotonous and standardized food culture. So, with what kind of mind frame should we change to a vegetarian diet? When you begin to eat a vegetarian diet, do not have a mind that you are denying something or changing something, which is a covetous mind. Your mind should start from the soil. When you begin to do a vegetarian diet, do it with love for the soil like we cows miss the soil and wish to hold the soil, then you will learn the abundance of vegetables very soon. There are such a lot of things to eat there like the freshness that the soil delivers, the vital energy of vegetables, fruits and dates in season and root vegetables. However, people do not recognize unique taste and energy of vegetables but only covet rotten meat all the time. This has happened out of human avarice. When you understand the soil, you will learn that all creations growing out of the soil are foods of blessing. Unfortunately, these days the soil of the Earth is also too devastated to produce such blessed agricultural products. You should not forget that blessed agricultural products grow from soil

which is alive itself. If you try to eat a vegetarian diet, you should first be born newly as a person who loves the Earth in nature. Therefore, I say a vegetarian diet should start from a mind that loves the soil. Then the right method to begin a vegetarian diet is to have a mind that loves the soil. Yes. The beginning of all lives comes from the soil. The beginning should start from maintaining this basis. A culture whose foundation is wrong will collapse in the end. Where will human behaviour end now? What are the lands of the Earth like? How do animals and plants on the Earth live now? What will their future be like? Even though the science and civilization of human beings and the culture of human beings develops more and more, the result of this are obvious because they destroy the grounds of human beings. I am warning you of that. If you recognize the problem, you have to announce your resolution and will do things again from the starting line, as soon as possible. Even now, it is not too late, so you have to light a fire in the minds of Earth people so that they can have love that can save the Earth, yourself, all animals and plants. A little fire can save the Earth. When you do a vegetarian diet, you should start it with love. When you have love for the soil, and eat food produced from the soil properly, this will form a culture of eating vegetables. Ah, now I understand the meaning of vegetarian diet more deeply. Epilogue
Now the Earth is revealing its abnormal symptoms to us through climate change and natural disasters; and our fellow Earthlings are crying from their pain and suffering. It is only humans who dont notice this emergency, saying There wont be significant trouble in my lifetime or Even though I alone change, what change could I bring about to the huge Earth? But, even if you feel kind of helpless, please ask yourself In the bigger picture, would you rather be a part of the problem or a part of the solution? This is the power of You. You alone could be the 100th monkey that effects the change of consciousness for the whole of humankind But first, you should wash your sweet potato. Thought alone cannot make the change decisive action is necessary. Action itself is the awakening Please listen to the voices of those with whom we share this miraculous Earth. Open up the eyes and ears of your mind. The Earth and its family are eager for the awakening of us human beings. They anticipate that we will no longer be the outlaws of the Earth, but will awaken as the guardians of the Earth. They are waiting for us to transform the critical situation into a great chance. It is time to prepare for the leap into the new age of the Earth. Out of the ashes of the old humankind, a new era of beautiful co-existence is possible. These are the most exciting and important days of hope in the history of Earth, but we dont have time to procrastinate

Why does my life go in this way? This might occur to anyone when we feel gloomy or something hard happens to us. Meanwhile, when things turn fine, we put aside such an idea in a corner of our minds and we forget about it and just go back to our life again. Then if we get bumped against difficulties of our life again, we repeat dwelling on our own misfortune, and this is the appearance of common peoples life. Consequently, at the end of our life, we slap our laps and realize there is something we didnt know throughout our whole life but we should have known by all means before we pass away. What is life and what is death? How do I live my life? These are the questions numerous people are desperately searching for answers to nowadays. Increasing numbers of middle-aged people and elders as well as young ones are wandering about losing their life paths. Essentially, humans, nature, Heaven and the Universe came out of one, and they have cultivated the Earth into a beautiful and abundant planet of life while helping and living with each other. However, as the material civilization empowers its influence, humans have gradually been further removed from other beings and built egoistic civilization only for their own good. As the result, our Earth is suffering from an incurable disease and all creatures of nature and the Universe are sending a warning to human beings. Suseonjaes Seon Culture Experience Center is a life museum to inform people of the mistakes that brought such a crisis to the Earth and suggest the model of life where we can love and revitalize each other.

2. SPEC(Seon Culture Promotion & Education Center), Teaching People a Fruitful Life and a Beautiful Death
SPEC is the life education area to teach people how to live life and how to prepare for death. It is nonprofit organization established by people including meditation experts, art mind healers, and organic farming specialists. Seon is the condition where people-nature-the Universe coexist in harmony. Even though good spiritual teachings are overflowing in the world, they are not of much help for the public because they approach the essence only partially. To accomplish a fruitful life and a beautiful death, we need both knowledge and love for people, nature and Heaven. The true path of life can be found when we practice love for human beings, love for nature and love for Heaven. SPEC is the integrated education arena to promote teachings for life through the Seon Culture. Also, to spread the recovery of nature and desirable funeral culture based on right understanding about life and death, SPEC is engaging in various movements, such as getting rid of tombs, organ donation & hospice and the cultivation of eco-friendly grave yards.

About the Authors

Communication with bees - by Sunsuk Yi Born in 1958, for over 20 years I worked as a middle school math teacher and today I live a fulfilling life lecturing about living a fruitful life and dying a beautiful death. Growing up in the countryside, I often ran through the mountains and the fields, enjoying nature. My childhood experiences had a big influence on me as I started to meditate and communicate with animals and plants. Nature, who I met through meditative dialogues, seems to be very sick right now. Through my dialogue with the honeybees, I hope to spread word of the crisis facing Earth as well as the preciousness of life. Communication with the Amazon - Gyeonga Choi Meditative Painter born in 1971. I majored in piano, but became fascinated with a world of quiet pictures while meditating. As I began to hear the message from plants, my painting subjects, I felt their verdant energy sprouting in a message of love. Their pain and loneliness were more forlorn and gaunt than any other. In the spring when everything is fresh and alive, I hope that their message will instill sympathy for nature in our hearts so we can rediscover our true nature-love. Communication with whales - by Byeongha Park Born in 1958. Through volunteer work for over 10 years, I have been trying to empty my heart and abandon greed while practicing the spirit of sharing. As a person who loves the sea, I communicate with marine life through meditation. The ocean is outwardly calm and beautiful, but under its surface sea creatures are in anguish because

they cannot breathe in a sick and rotten sea. For love and coexistence between humankind and sea creatures, I would like to convey the story of the sea to as many people as possible. Communication with Animals - Jongcheol Kim I was born in 1949 in a rural area, I worked for 30 years as a civil servant during which time I began to meditate. It started with an interest in how human beings should live and later it led to sympathy for animals. The truth I realized through dialogues with animals was that humans have to live in harmony with nature. I want to live a life within nature, together with nature and to share a meaningful life with many other people. Communication with Plants - Roar Sheppard I was born in 1972. I am an American and have been residing in Korea for about 15 years. I was interested in the secret of the Universe and searched for it through meditation. Meditation and the breathing training have been my daily routine for 8 years and through the deep silence of my training, I began to hear the pains of plants, expressed through their wavelengths. Over time I felt I could communicate with various beings in nature. Communication with Gaia - Yeonnmi Hong She was born in 1963. She is living in Seoul, Korea, and she has been practicing meditation training for 10 years. While she continues a common life as a housewife, mother and a teacher, she wanted to know the origin of loneliness and vanity that arose without reason, she quit her job and began searching for the answer earnestly. After she met her current meditation training, she is living a happy and new life.

Plants and animals on small, practical steps for saving the Earth
1. Adopt a lifestyle that doesn't harm Nature. Reduce the use of cell phones, and reduce the amount of trash you generate. 2. For the Earth and your health, start walking more in your everyday life. 3. Be aware that people are a part of Nature, and commune with it at least once a day. 4. Human desire for only their own exclusive comfort must be discarded. People must pursue simple and environmentally friendly lives. 5. Live in smaller houses, while conserving water and electricity. 6. Water, air, sunlight, and other gifts of Nature are generously provided to humankind, who must be thankful for this love. 7. Humans should always eat with a heart of gratitude. 8. Animals are humankind's companions and are precious creatures that have the right to live freely and be respected by humans. 9. Humans must reduce their meat consumption in their daily lives. 10. Help Earth's family members which are suffering and pray for them.
