Holiday in Italy
I 'm going to Lake Como near Milan in August with my family, ( me, the vegan, 2 vegetarians and an omnivore) . Anyone have experiences in this part of Italy with being vegan or vegetarian? I 'll be able to bring a few groceries with me but I 'm worried about eating out and such.

It's dead easy. They're generally happy to put things together for you and there are lots of staple peasant options evryone knows about, like pasta with beans, bean and oninon salad, vegetable minstrone soup, "pizza alla marinara" which is just with garlic and tomatoes in most places over there ( as opposed to ai frutti di mare which is with shellfish ). Then there' s spaghetti aglio , olio e pepperoncino which is spag with chilli and garlic, and there penne all'arrabbiata which is pasta quills with tomato and chilli, well.. I could go on and on. Don't worry - you'll have a great time.

And I 'm sure there will be vegetable and fruit markets and supermarkets where you can pick up some essentials.

yes being vegan in italy is really easy as Michael already said but you probably have to pay attention to some particulars .. Usually pizza dough is always vegan but in some restaurants they make pizza dough with pig fat (I don't know what is the exact term for that in english, in italian is strutto) instead of olive oil but fortunately it's very rare. Also when you buy focaccia or pane in a supermarket always ask if there's strutto in it because it's not always written.
