Immanuel and St. Andrew CE Primary School Reception Class RO, Term 1 Curriculum Bulletin Welcome!

I am delighted to be starting this year in Reception at Immanuel and St Andrew. As many of you know, I am new to Immanuel and the UK. I am really looking forward to getting to know all of you over the coming weeks and working together to support your children this year in Reception. We are always on the lookout for volunteers so if you would like to help out or have a special skill you can share with children please let us know! Early Years Foundation Stage Focus for the Term:

Personal Social Emotional Development: For the first term we are focusing on the children accessing resources and activities independently. This includes tidying up after they have completed something and caring for the things in the room. We will also be playing lots of games to help us learn about each other and develop friendships. Communication Language and Literacy: We will be reading lots of stories and talking about them, focusing on speaking and listening skills within a large group. The children will start phonics every day where they will learn to link sounds to letters and start using this skill in their writing and reading. Problem Solving Reasoning and Numeracy: We are going to be looking at numbers and working at matching amounts to numerals. In the theme of ourselves we will be measuring the size of our heads, feet and hands and displaying our findings in graphs to compare. We will also use our hand prints to measure the length of different items.

Knowledge and Understanding of the World: For the ourselves topic we will be doing lots of talking about our families and other people close to us. We will look at maps to think about where we come from and where we have been. We will also be exploring our environments using all our senses and looking closely at change that happens through the turn of the season. Physical Development: The PE topic this term will be dance and we will be focusing on how we can use different parts of our bodies to create shapes and positions, on our own and in groups. The children will be involved in lots of games and activities which we will do as a class to help them to bond and feel safe and comfortable with each other. Creative Development: The children will be looking at paintings by Picasso and talking about how he used different techniques for different features in a portrait. The children will then experiment to create their own masterpiece!

Books to share:
We are encouraging the children to bring home a book from the book corner to share with their grown ups at home. They can change this everyday or keep for a few as they wish. Please share this book with your child, talking about the pictures and the story. Exposure to a variety of different books is so vital to their development and is fun for both you and them!

your childs clothing. Sometimes items get misplaced or accidentally muddled with another childs and it is impossible to identify who they belong to if they are not named.

Water:
We ask that your child brings a named bottle of water to school every day. This allows for independent access to water whenever they need.

Reading books and word tins: PE:

Monday 19th September. Please can you
ensure that your child has a clearly labelled PE kit by this point, containing a pair of shorts and a Tshirt which can be purchased from the school office. We will be starting PE on Once the children have settled into school I will be hearing them read to ensure that they start at the correct reading level. A letter explaining the word tins and when books will be changed will follow

An exciting opportunity to increase your childs success in phonics!!

Come to our Reception parents phonics workshop, learn how to support your child, and find out more about the national test Reading by 6 that your child will take in Year 1.

Cooking:
We ask for a 1 a week contribution to a cooking fund. This is the only way we can buy ingredients for cooking or baking every week which the children love. If you would rather pay termly, it is 6 for this term. Your child can put the money in the money box in class.
