By 1961 Ray Charles had established himself at the forefront of popular music. He had several R&B hit singles on Atlantic Records in the fifties and crossed over into the mainstream with his hit Whatd I Say in 1959. In 1977, Rory Gallagher entered a San Francisco studio and recorded a whole albums worth of material. The album was eventually shelved, as Rory explained to a journalist in the early 90s, because maybe eighty percent of the San Francisco album could come out in some form remixed. The problem was: the mixing was getting complicated and some of the songs (just didn`t sound right).For the first time on vinyl, the recordings from this session will see the light of day on the 3LP package Notes From San Francisco.The first LP features the results of this recording session. LP 2 & 3 consist of a massively energetic live concert recorded in December of 1979 at The Old Waldorf in San Francisco. This title was released on CD (201552) in May as part of Eagle Rocks massive Rory Gallagher re-issue campaign.

In the waning months of the 20th century, legendary Seattle band Screaming Trees went back into the studio one last time. Having been released from their label and realizing that the outlook was grim, the Trees entered Stone Gossards Studio Litho to preserve the last batch of songs the band had written. Financed by the band and produced by drummer Barrett Martin, these sessions proved to be their last. On June 25th, 2000, the Trees played their final concert in front of 20,000 people at Seattle's Memorial Stadium, after which the band members went their separate ways. The final recordings were never mixed or released, and for more than a decade, the original two-inch tapes lay gathering dust in the basement of Gossard's studio. Twelve years later, in the winter of 2011, Martin and long-time friend and producer Jack Endino found the two-inch multi-track reels, carefully baked and cleaned the tapes, transferred them to a digital format, and brought back to life those final 10 songs. To their pleasant surprise, the music had a raw, energetic quality, with the band cracking jokes and howling with laughter between takes - they were clearly having a good time. These final sessions were a remarkable last testament to the band's impressive 15-year career that ended with their last show in June of 2000.

Digitally remastered edition of this 1976 live release from the British guitarist. Robin Trower's first live album found the band playing at peak form during their first wave of popularity. Following the success of studio masterpiece Bridge of Sighs, the band was touring in support of Bridge's follow-up For Earth Below when they decided that a live album should be the next move. The final track list culled titles from the band's first three albums and features a smoldering extended version of 'Daydream' and the ever popular 'Too Rolling Stoned'. Both songs remain in Trower's set lists to this day. This remaster brings to life the fire and the fury that was Robin Tower, James Dewar, and Bill Lordon redefining what a power trio should sound like in the middle of the '70s. Digitally remastered and expanded edition of this 1981 album includes four bonus tracks. The Tubes first album for Capitol/EMI found them paired with up and coming producer and songwriter, David Foster in search of a more commercial sound. Many of their A&M albums had been very strong but failed to ignite the charts or build much fan interest beyond their rabid cult. Completion Backward Principle changed all that with 'Talk to Ya Later' (an AOR radio smash) and the chart success of the single 'Don't Want to Wait Anymore'. This edition features new liner notes by noted Rock journalist Brett Milano including fresh interviews with current band members Fee Waybill and Roger Steen.

Malmsteen into a glittering solo career. Arguably the worlds foremost, and certainly the most passionate and indefatigable, anthropologist and archivist of the Great American Songbook, Michael Feinstein has dedicated his career to preserving, protecting and promoting the work of the great tunesmiths, ranging from household names like Gershwin, Porter and Berlin to such lesser-known craftsmen as Huge Martin and Burton Lane. Its no wonder that the Library of Congress invited him to serve on its elite National Sound Recording Advisory Board. With the release of The Sinatra Project II: The Good Life Michael Feinstein revisits the 60s music of Frank Sinatra and his circle Bobby Darin, Ann-Margret, Rosemary Clooney, Sammy Davis, Jr. in a transitional time when crooners backed by studio orchestras shared the airwaves with scruffy rocknroll singers and clanging guitars. As for his choice of subject, Feinstein explains that, Sinatra considered himself, first and foremost, an interpreter of song, and his influence on other entertainers is incalculable. ECMs ongoing series of recordings with the Munich Chamber Orchestra continues with an intriguing album of new and recent pieces by Japans leading composer Toshio Hosokawa, a composer who is garnering increasing and significant press attention around the world. Amongst the featured compositions are Sakura fr Otto Tomek and Cloud and Light, both written in 2008, and Ceremonial Dance, written in 2000. These 21st century pieces are brought together with Landscape V (originally from 1993 and for string quartet, meanwhile expanded into an orchestral version). Born in Hiroshima in 1955, Hosokawa was initially inspired by Western art music from Schoenberg. He came to Germany in the 1970s to study with Isang Yun and Klaus Huber. As he strengthened his standing in European aveant-garde he also put down deeper roots in Japanese traditional music. His work increasingly suggests a dialogue between East and West, between the archaic and modern, between ceremonial music and concert music. Hosokawa considers his compositional process instinctively associated with the concepts of Zen Buddhism and its symbolic interpretation of nature. Hosokawas involvement with traditional music led him to study the sho, the ancient Japanese mouth organ with 17 bamboo pipes. In contemporary music the best known sho player is undoubtedly Mayumi Miyata who is featured here. She was previously heard on ECM in Helmust Lachenmanns Das Mdchen met den Schwefelhlzem (The Little Match Stick Girl). On the present disc Mayumi Miyata solos in Hosakawas music for strings and sho, and plays unaccompanied sho on Shakura, Hosakawas adaptation of a traditional Japanese piece.

Two of ECMs leading ensembles join forces to introduce us to the music of Boris Yoffe,
a label debut for the composer. Born in St. Petersburg (in 1968), Yoffe emigrated to Israel in 1990 and then to Germany in 1997. He describes himself as a Jewish (rather than Russian or Israeli) composer, creating work influenced by German music, Russian Literature and Far East philosophy. The music featured on this album comes from his vast and unique Book of Quartets, an ever expanding collection, with the Hilliard and Rosamunde musicians making their selection from pieces completed between 2005-2009. As Paul Griffiths writes in the liner notes, One listens here into infinity, a work without end. This is composition as a diary, an unfolding, poetic, musical mediation, a gentle river of sound. The coming together of the Rosamunde Quartet and the Hilliard Ensembles is a special event, with both ensembles delivering inspired performances as they enter the spirit of Yoffes music. Yoffes writing challenges the performer by leaving open many questions of tempo and dynamics and articulation and for the Rosamunde it was a particular pleasure tow ork with interpretive freedoms of this kind.
