6. i) In a Copper-Sulphate voltameter, the copper cathode is increased in weight by 50 gm in two hours, when the current maintained was constant. Calculate the value of this current. Given that Atomic weight of Copper=63.5, Atomic weight of hydrogen=1, Atomic weight of silver=108, Electro-chemical of silver=0.001118 gm. (6) ii) Write short notes on production of chemicals. (10)

6. i) An electric train weighing 100 tonnes has rotational inertia of 10%. This train while running between two stations which are 2.5 km apart has an average speed of 50 km/hour. The acceleration and retardation during braking are respectively 1 km/hour/second and 2 kmphps. The percentage gradiant between these two station is 1% and the train is to move up the incline. The track resistance is 40 N/tones. If the combined efficiency of the electric train is 60%, determine a) maximum power at the driving axle b) total energy consumption and c) specific energy consumption. Assume the journey estimation is being made on simplified trapezoidal speed-time curve. (10)

ii) An electric train has quadrilateral speed-time curve as follows: a) Uniform acceleration from rest at 2 kmphps for 30 seconds b) Coasting for 50 seconds c) Braking period of 20 seconds. The train is moving a uniform up gradient of 1%, tractive resistance is 40 newtons/tone, rotational inertia effect 10% of dead weight, duration of station stop 15 seconds and overall efficiency of

transmission gear and motor as 75%. Calculate the value of its schedule speed and specific energy consumption of run. Assume that c = 0.452 kmphps, v2=37.4kmph, =1.87kmphps, S=1.03km. (6)
