Overview
SDSI offers a revolutionary Enterprise Resource Management System (ERMS) for
transforming organizations by simplifying the Enterprise Resource Management
functionalities by merging it with the functionalities of the corporate Intranet.
The complete system is modular in nature with the choice of what all functional-

Modular
Design
The complete application is designed modular with intranet solution being the core module on which various other
modules can plugged. Thus the client has complete flexibility in choosing the features as per his requirement and
desire.

Easy Interfacing
Connectivity to other systems/applications is easily possible since the entire business logic resides on a central
machine.
Technology
ERMS is based on the concept of four-tier architecture. This differs from the traditional two-tier architecture, as the
application does not reside on the client end, thus keeping the clients thin. Moreover, the architecture is a step ahead
of three-tier architecture as it uses another application tier, which controls the flow of the application thus keeping the
presentation flow and logic separate from each other. This makes the product highly configurable, and easily maintainable
and upgradeable.

The detailed description of all the tiers of the solution follows:

Presentation tier
This tier interfaces with the user and consists of hardware such as a PC or workstation and a web browser. This may
consist of any number of client machines. This tier is very thin as only the generated HTML pages with scripts get
downloaded on this. The presentation layer is built using JSPs and Java Servlets.

Application tier
This tier controls the flow of the whole application and thus facilitates he application enhancements and maintainability.
This tier resides at the server and is built using Java Servlets.

Business Logic tier


This tier provides the backbone to the whole application and contains the complete business logic. Primarily the
application layer accesses this tier, although presentation tier also at times accesses it directly. Business Logic tier is
realized in the form of a web server here, making it cost effective and portable across the web servers and application
servers. Depending upon the number of hits and the number of users, any number of servers can be put in this tier.
Business Logic tier is built using Java Beans and SSDSI Custom tag libraries for Intranet.

Data tier

This tier Includes the database that contains all the data of the organization and this is encapsulated from the end users. Any
number of database servers can be put in this tier, which depends on the volume of transactions and the amount of data.

This four-tier architecture can work on the Intranet as well as over the Internet. A typical diagrammatic representation of
the four-tier architecture of ERMS solution is as follows: -
