DARREN PATRICK HUDGINS ORDER OF REVOCATION

On or about April 24,2007, the Teacher Standards and Practices Commission

(Commission) received a report from Jeremy Lyon, Superintendent, Hillsboro School District,

indicating that Darren Patrick Hudgins (Hudgins) may have engaged in an inappropriate

relationship with a student.

Mr. Hudgins has fully cooperated with the TSPC investigation. After review of the

matters alleged, Mr. Hudgins and the Commission agree that their respective interests, together

with the public interest, are best served by a stipulation to certain facts and a surrender of her

teaching license pursuant to OAR 584-020-0027.

This Order sets forth the facts upon which the parties have stipulated and the sanction to

be imposed. Mr. Hudgins stipulates that there are sufficient facts contained in the

Commission's files and records to support the findings of fact and conclusions of law set forth

below. In entering into this stipulation, Mr. Hudgins waives the right to a hearing to contest the

findings of fact, conclusions of law and Order set forth below. Mr. Hudgins understands that

upon surrender the Commission will revoke his teaching license

This stipulation is contingent upon approval and adoption of the Order by the

Commission. If the Commission does not adopt this Order, neither Mr. Hudgins nor the

Commission are bound by these stipulations and Mr. Hudgins retains all rights to a hearing on

the allegations.

STIPULATION OF FACTS

1. The Commission has licensed Mr. Hudgins since December 16, 1998. He currently

holds a Basic Teaching License with a Basic Social Studies Endorsement, issued March 18,

2005, valid through March 17, 2008.

 2. Mr. Hudgins was employment with the Hillsboro School District until his resignation

April 25, 2007. Mr. Hudgins served as a Social Studies Teacher at Glencoe High School.

3. Mr. Hudgins failed to maintain an appropriate professional student-teacher

relationship with a student at Glencoe High School. Mr. Hudgins acknowledges that his email

communication with the student was inappropriate.

CONCLUSION OF LAW

Daren Patrick Hudgins failed to maintain a professional student-teacher relationship with

a student at Glencoe High School. This constitutes Gross Neglect of Duty in violation of OAR

584-020-0040(4)(o) as it incorporates OAR 584-020-0035(1)(c)(A). The Commission's authority

to impose discipline in this matter is based upon ORS 342.175.

ORDER

The Commission accepts the surrender of Darren Patrick Hudgins's Basic Teaching

License and hereby revokes said license.
