JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title: Director, Manufacturing Operations – Central America

Department: Manufacturing

Reports To: VP Manufacturing

GENERAL PURPOSE OF JOB:

Oversee management of all areas of Manufacturing in Central


America to produce products and direct activities so that approved
products are manufactured on-schedule and within quality standards
and cost objectives.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Implement the manufacturing plan and procedures to ensure


that high standards of quality are maintained while production
schedules from all Central America manufacturing operations are
met.
• Assist staff members in the development and formulation of long
and short-range planning, policies, programs and objectives.
• Responsible for material utilization, transportation for raw
materials and finished goods, Customs documentation, and
vendor pricing and compliance.
• Develop and maintain all operating and capital budgets. Expand
production capacity as necessary. Explore, develop, and implant
new sources as required.
• Establish and maintain relationships with local authorities, as
necessary, to ensure regulatory compliance.
• Formulate and recommend manufacturing policies and programs
that guide the organization in maintaining and improving its
competitive position and the profitability of the operation.
• Assume broader and more global responsibility for contract
manufacturing and raw material sourcing.
• Direct and monitor department managers to accomplish goals of
the manufacturing plan, consistent with established
manufacturing and safety procedures. Act as liaison between
department management/subordinate levels, as well as,
executive/department manager levels to inform personnel of
communications, decisions, policies and all matters that affect
their performance, attitudes and results.
• Manage and develop key staff, taking corrective action as
necessary.
• Identify, recommend and implement changes to improve
productivity and reduce cost and scrap, monitor scrap and
rework data. Direct the establishment, implementation and
maintenance of production standards.
• Direct and coordinate various programs essential to
manufacturing procedures (e.g., training, safety, housekeeping,
cost reduction, worker involvement, security, etc.).
• Initiate and coordinate major projects, (e.g., plant layout
changes, installation of capital equipment, major repairs, etc.).
• Work effectively and relate well with others. Exhibit a
professional manner in dealing with others, working to maintain
constructive working relationships.
• Keep current on information and technology affecting functional
areas to increase innovation and ensure compliance.
• Perform miscellaneous duties and projects as assigned and
required.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

• BA/BS in industrial, mechanical or business administration, or a


4-year technical degree in related discipline.
• 15 – 20 years experience in manufacturing management,
preferably in a process-oriented operations and/or related
industry. A minimum of 5-years experience managing a
significant segment of a large manufacturer or the entire
operation of a smaller manufacturer.
• 5 or more years of first hand apparel manufacturing in Central
America is necessary
• Computer proficient with ability to present functional
specifications to the MIS Department.
• Experience with the development of contract manufacturing
sources in central America as well as other global sources.
• Experience working with manufacturing based technology,
processes and principles is preferred.
• Bilingual English/Spanish is desired.
• Proven administration, budgeting, organizational, and
performance skills are required.

This position reports to the VP of Manufacturing and has peers


who include Directors of Quality, Sourcing, Domestic Value Added,
Finished Goods Distribution, Engineering, and Maintenance.

Consideration will be given to candidates who possess the


managerial and intellectual capacity and capability to progress to a
much broader managerial role in the future. Such candidates need to
possess strong entrepreneurial characteristics.

COMPENSATION and RELOCATION

Base Salary and Bonus = $115,000 to $150,000 depending on salary


history and experience.

Temporary lodging, mover’s fee, and lump sum discretionary payment.

a Director, Healthcare Design and Merchandising, who is
responsible for the creation of fashionable looks and body styles for
Landau Uniforms core product line encompassing their well established

This person oversees the designs, fabric, construction, body styles,


merchandising, fittings, wear tests and consumer feedback,
benchmarks competition multiple lines for pricing and design, and
coordinates garment specifications/documentation for PDM. Experience
with RTW, Mrs., Junior and Missy’s coupled with the use of rigid fabric is
essential.. The position oversees four direct reports and will work
closely with counter part in the Corporate Identity Apparel Division, as
well as the VP Healthcare Marketing and Sales department.

Position Requirements: A Bachelors degree in Fashion Design and


Merchandising and ten (15) or more years experience in garment
development as described above. Critical Competencies for this
position are: Computer skills, organizational skills (detail oriented),
color sense, and creative ability. Proven organizational, performance
management, and budgeting skills are paramount. In addition,
candidates should have experience to include knowledge of:
Spreadsheet and word processing, PhotoShop Illustrator, elementary
CAD applications, working knowledge of textiles and garment design.

– Technical Design

• Sample Sewers – 10

Dotted Line Relationships:

• Engineering – costing
• Purchasing – material sourcing
• Production Planning and Scheduling

Responsibility:
• Cut planning/allocation and marker making
ensuring that the needs of the plants are met.
• Working from stylist designers designs, develop
patterns and samples.
• Mark, grade, garment costing
• Provide Yardage Information for garment costing
• Manage sample sewers

Specifically:

Patterns: Provide guidance to staff on projects in the


areas of , fittings, Grades, and Speck sheets; working
with designer to make patterns for new concepts;
ensuring that all adopted styles are sent to ‘costing’
with all appropriate information; sends all test cuts to
the plants and checks on quality and returns ‘sews’ to
plant as necessary; ensures that the PDM work in
interred thru the dept. in a timely manner

Cutting:
Makes sure that the cuts from scheduling meet delivery
dates (without regard to the cutting facilities location)
and that all samples are sewn in a timely fashion;
ensure that all photo and special samples are
completed; check all inbound samples when received.

Sample Department:
Develop sample sewing schedule with supervisor and
scheduling department; work on construction with new
styles and developments; coordinate with engineering
on new attachments for new styles; ensure that all
healthcare and ID department requirements are
serviced effectively.

Experience:
• BSBA and 20 – 25 yrs experience
• In depth knowledge of rigid fabric and knit
design and manufacturing
• Strong detail orientation
• Ability to manage multiple projects and deal
effectively with changing priorities.
• Proven budget and performance management
skills.
• Well developed interpersonal and
communication skills
• Technical skills with PDM, MS Office, AS400.
• Gerber (or similar) computerized marking
system
• Gerber CAD/CAM
• AccuNest Automatic Marker making
• Nester Automatic Marker Making
