Abstract

Rolling rotor switched reluctance motors (RRSRM) are known as exceptional drive systems. Their fundamental operation is characterized by the coupling of electrical, magnetic and mechanical components and the especial operating mode. The rotor is moved eccentrically in the stator. Due to this property an investigation with conventional mode of description is possible only on limited scale. Therefore, this work describes a new approach on the basis of magnetic equivalent circuit (MEC) method. This method allows the user more possibilities that the finite element method. These investigations on RRSRM are executed on the basis of descriptions which based on the Ohm's and Kirchhoff's law. This modeling method is supported by the object-oriented modeling language Modelica and the simulation environment Dymola. By means of this approach the investigations of heterogeneous physical properties of the motor and a possible area of application will be presented in this paper. This method of description offers the possibility to implement each different physical domain inside the same simulation environment, where the coupling between the different physical domains can be well investigated. This approach will show that there are physical interconnections between the miscellaneous domains that have strong influences on the mode of operation.

Abstract
The motor current signature analysis has been considered as a standard for both electrical and mechanical fault detection in three-phase induction machine. However, even if the spectrum analysis is well known and has been published intensively in the literature, the problem of automatic classification for fault detection is still open. The aim of this paper is to present a new neural network approach for fault and speed detection using the current spectrum analysis. After the presentation of an original database creation, the classification using a particular neural network is developed. This network is conceived in order to output the posterior probabilities of class membership of the input, which allow the estimation of the level of confidence of the classification. Then, the classical motor slip detection algorithm is verified and the classification is experimentally performed on a squirrel-cage three-phase induction machine. The efficiency of the iteration process is shown together with the confusion matrix for the current spectrum analysis in the proposed method.

Abstract
This paper presents an integrated train protection and information system for regional branch lines. It is designed as a low-cost system for easy implementation on existing minor railway lines. The system consists of two parts, a safety relevant computer-aided operational train control system, which reduces the influence of manual error on the safety of train operation, and a nonsafety relevant part which provides dynamic passenger information, internet presentation of the actual operational situation and statistical analysis. The addition of an automatic connection assurance system is the next step. The paper presents the technical implementation of the system and the experiences made during development and daily operation of the system.

Abstract

This paper describes the main experimental results that have been obtained with a prototype system developed within a Craft project in the EU Growth Programme: WireNet-"powerline data exchange for domestic and industrial automation based on the ultra wide band (UWB) approach". The project aimed at designing and realising an innovative system for power-line data exchange using some concepts derived from the UWB technology, and in particular, the wide band impulse modulation solutions. The WireNet system targets several application scenarios such as low-data rate home/industrial automation and moderate data rate applications such as voice and audio streaming. Stringent constraints on complexity and overall cost have been set. This has motivated the investigation of simple, though performance wise good, transmission solutions. The paper gives a description of the main principles behind the adopted wide band impulse modulation solution and the protocol specifications. Moreover, a description of the hardware prototype together with a presentation of the performed tests, is given. The experimental results show that the WireNet system allows for reliable communications in indoor powerline scenarios with a simple wideband transmission scheme that is robust in the presence of highly frequency selective channels and background disturbances
