Install a Fan Assembly

If cooling is required for a rack-mounted system, a fan assembly should be installed at this point. The OPTI-6100 system can utilize three different fan assemblies: The OPTI-6100 Fan Assembly (FANM; P/N 1184507L1) provides cooling for the OPTI-6100 system. It incorporates a filter and fans to provide forced air ventilation for the OPTI-6100 chassis and all of its associated modules. Installation and turn-up procedures for the FANM Assembly can be found in Job Aid 61184507L1-22, included with the fan assembly. Use the instructions provided to install and power the assembly. The OPTI-6100 Enhanced Fan Assembly (EFANM; P/N 1184507L2) includes all the same features as the FANM, with the addition of 16 provisionable environmental alarm inputs. Installation and turn-up procedures for the EFANM Assembly can be found in Job Aid 61184507L2-22, included with the fan assembly. Use the instructions provided to install and power the assembly, and to wire and provision the environmental alarms. The OPTI-6100 SMX Enhanced Fan Assembly (SFANM; P/N 1184550L1) is a smaller version of the EFANM, designed to support the SMX chassis. Installation and turn-up procedures for the SFANM Assembly can be found in Job Aid 61184550L1-22, included with the fan assembly. Use the instructions provided to install and power the assembly, and to wire and provision the environmental alarms.

Install the System Controller Module in the SCM Slot

The System Controller Module (SCM, P/N 1184500L1) is required for the OPTI-6100 system turn-up. Installation and turn-up procedures for the SCM can be found in Job Aid 61184500L1-22, included with the SCM.

Install, Apply Power, and Visually Verify Operation

Apply Power to the Chassis

All power, ground and administrative wiring should now be completed on the OPTI-6100 chassis, and an SCM should be installed in the chassis. To apply power to the chassis, insert a fuse into the fuse and alarm panel serving either the A or B power feeds to the OPTI-6100 chassis. After ensuring that the SCM properly powers up and successfully completes its power-on self test routine, the second power feed can be energized. SCM Self Test When the OPTI-6100 first powers up, it runs the power up self tests. When it first powers up, all LEDs illuminate red, then yellow, then green. Next the LEDs may cycle from top to bottom several more times during the self test. When the self test is complete, the STAT LED should appear green. At this point, all LEDs on the SCM and other modules reflect their true status. To test all LEDs on the OPTI-6100 chassis, press and hold the Alarm Cut Off (ACO) switch. After a few seconds, all LEDs on the chassis should illuminate yellow. NOTE Once successfully powered up, if only A or B power is supplied, the SCM will reflect a MINOR alarm for A (or B) power failure.

Install the OMM Modules in the HS Slots

The OPTI-6100 can be equipped with one or two Optical Multiplexer (OMM) modules (two modules are utilized for redundant operation) in the high-speed (HS) slots. Installation and turn-up procedures for the OMM module(s) can be found in the Job Aid(s) included with the module(s). Plug in the module(s) according to the procedures in the appropriate Job Aids, and inspect the LEDs to verify proper performance.

61184500L1-13B

OPTI-6100 Quick Start Guide

Install the Tributary Modules in the MS Slots

The OPTI-6100 MX chassis can be equipped with up to twelve tributary modules in the midspeed (MS) slots. The OPTI-6100 SMX chassis can be equipped with up to four tributary modules in the midspeed (MS) slots. NOTE Certain tributary modules can only operate in certain mid-speed slots (labeled MS# on the chassis). The Job Aid included with each module lists the appropriate slots for that module type. For a full list of module types and their designated slots, refer to Slot Assignments in the OPTI-6100 Overview, Engineering, Applications, and Ordering practice (P/N 61184500L1-7). Keying is provided to limit the insertion of the following: SCM module to the SCM slot only OMM modules to the two HS slots only Tributary modules to the MS slots only Install each required tributary module according to the procedure in the appropriate Job Aid, and inspect the LEDs to verify proper performance. CAUTION As installation procedures can differ slightly between module types, each module must be installed according to the instructions in the Job Aid for that specific module. Improper installation can damage the module and/or the chassis. This completes the Install, Apply Power, and Visually Verify Operation stage of the Quick Start procedure.

Provision the SCM

PROVISION THE SCM

The SCM provides an RS-232 serial asynchronous craft access port. Physical access is attained by way of a female DB-9 connector on the SCM front panel. This port can operate from 9600 to 115200 baud (the default rate is 9600 baud). The format is 8-bit asynchronous data with no parity and one stop bit (8, N, 1). Minimal 3-wire functionality (pins 2, 3, and 5) is also accommodated. This port operates as a DCE. Pin assignments are detailed in Table 2. Table 2. Craft Port Connector Pin Assignments
Pin Number 2 3 4 5 Function Transmit Data from DCE Receive Data into DCE DTR (Data Terminal Ready) Signal Ground

Use the following procedures to login to the SCM and provision the general settings:

Connect to a VT100 Terminal

To connect either a terminal or a PC emulating a terminal to the craft port: 1. Set the parameters of the VT100 terminal to the following: Mode: VT-100 9600 baud 8 data bits No parity 1 stop bit No flow control NOTE The craft port on the OPTI-6100 SCM defaults to 9600 baud, but has additional available rates of 19200, 38400, 57600, and 115200 baud. If the craft baud rate is set to an unsupported value and no other access method (Telnet, TL1, ADMIN, etc.) is available, the craft baud rate can be restored by performing the following: 1) remove the SCM from the OPTI-6100 chassis, 2) reinstall the SCM, holding the ACO pushbutton for 10 seconds, 3) connect to the system, and 4) select Run Primary SCM Application (Flash), to exit Boot ROM mode.

Provision the SCM

Provision Section Data Communications Channel (SDCC)

The following sections address SDCC provisioning. Network Management For Subtended configurations, OSI network and data link provisioning is necessary in order to allow the DCC communications to the SONET ADM. If the local Ethernet port is to be used for remote management (external Ethernet cable to be equipped), IP parameters must be provisioned. These are provisioned via the Network Configuration option under the Provisioning menu. The IP address, Subnet Mask, and Default Gateway should be obtained from the System Administrator responsible for the network to which the OPTI-6100 is being connected. For Subtended configurations, TL1 remote management is supported over the DCC, which requires additional provisioning changes. These changes are made under the DCC Provisioning menu and include the following: CLLI Code The CLLI Code (also used as the TL1 TID) is usually supplied by the Access Design Engineering group of the service provider in which the unit is being installed and can typically be found on the work order for the OPTI-6100 installation. If no CLLI Code is available, any arbitrary text string of 20 characters can be used. The CLLI code must be provisioned because it also acts as the Target IDentifier (TID) for TL1 communication. The CLLI code must be unique for both the Central Office and Remote OPTI-6100 units, as well as for each piece of equipment connected to the service providers Network Management System. NSAP Area Address The NSAP Area Address may or may not be specified by Access Design Engineering. If it is not, it must be set to the same value as provisioned in other SONET ADM equipment in the network. If access to the SONET ADM equipment is not possible, a value of 39840F80000000000000000000 can be utilized for terminal point-to-point applications with all third-party ADM (including Alcatel, Lucent, and Fujitsu), except Nortel. The default NSAP area address for Nortel is 490000. NOTE The NSAP area address on the OPTI-6100 can be changed at any time, in case another vendors equipment uses a different NSAP area address. Use the following procedure to provision the SDCC: 1. From the Network Management menu, select SONET SDDC Provisioning, and press ENTER. 2. From the SONET SDCC Provisioning menu, select Upper Layers Provisioning, and press ENTER.
