Since the complete BMW GT1 / DIS V57 systems are very rare, and prohibitively expensive ($5000+) it wasnt long before an unofficial version of the GT1 software was released for use in the Windows XP environment, whilst using virtual software in order to recreate the linux environment. The BMW GT1 / DIS V57 Suite is a group of programs which control, diagnose and reprogram, the actual software programs contained on our DVD GT1 / DIS V57 Diagnostic Package consists of the following:BMW DIS V57 BMW DIS is used largely for diagnosis purposes, this program will access the various electronic modules within a BMW Vehicle, and read stored error codes to allow the operator to identify existing or potential problems across the many electronic sensors used within the vehicle body and engine through a flow chart of diagnostic tests. BMW DIS will also allow you to reset / clear those stored error codes, as well as resetting service interval data after an Inspection. BMW DIS will also allow low level coding operations, such as resetting Adaption values and recoding injectors in diesel (DDE) vehicles. BMW PROGMAN SSS V32 This is a complex and powerful piece of software, used to recode all aspects of the vehicle electronic control systems.

This includes recoding replacement body modules, immobiliser coding and syncronisation, Parking Distance Control, Auto Gearbox Control Systems, Central Locking Control, HID Lamps and Light module parameters and also Roof functions on convertible models. BMW TIS BMW TIS, is a complete Parts workshop manual for BMW Motor Vehicles. Should you require any replacement parts for your BMW Model Vehicle, then BMW TIS will allow you to locate the section relevant to the part, and then give an exploded, and detailed diagram and the layout and also the BMW Part Numbers. BMW TIS is available as an option on our BMW GT1 / DIS V57 Package The GT1 / DIS V57 Software suite will also allow you to enter the dealer areas of your vehicle which allow you to unlock and change many of the user comfort features which may be hidden in your BMW vehicle ECU. These include selective locking, Key Memory, Seat / Mirror Memory and many other Dealer only modifications. BMW DIS V57 suite ideally requires the the use of a BMW Approved interface which is used to connect to the Diagnostic Interface of the vehicle (Refered to as the BMW Yellow Head interface) for immediate, reliable out of the box operation. Using this expensive interface allows easy connection to the vehicles OBD diagnosic port and requires little modification to the software settings. However this BMW interface is also very expensive and costs in the region of $700 $1000 / 500). Although cheaper Chinese generics do exist which can be used to connect to the GT1 system, people tend to find the results and reliability of these mixed, at best. So buyers should be aware, when spending money on these expensive BMW interfaces. Most of this is beyond the budget of the average domestic home mechanic however, or somebody who just wants to use BMW DIS V57 in order to read fault codes, or identify the reason why their BMW is not running as it should. With BMW vehicles getting more and more complex, even the process of changing over any faulty electronic modules with replacements perhaps obtained from a salvage yard can mean that the new module has to be (re)coded to the vehicle. In order to do this, the BMW owner is required to take their vehicle to a BMW dealer with BMW GT1 or BMW DIS software which often means considerable expense. Unfortunately, a lot of the other aftermarket diagnosis software does not have the same features as BMW GT1 nor will it code BMW vehicles, this often means that the owner has no option but to seek out the assistance and expense of the dealer. There is however a solution at hand which may allow the average DIY mechanic to use BMW GT1 and unlock the hugely powerful potential of diagnosis and recoding on their own driveway, using nothing more than an old laptop, our GT1 modified software and a cheap, readily available EDIABAS OBD or D-Can interface, and comes with step by step, easy to follow installation instructions. Many people have found that the BMW GT1 / BMW DIS V57 software can be modified (by anybody with the appropriate computer skills) to work with various other aftermarket interfaces which are readily available commercially for far less than the BMW Yellow Head diagnostic interface. The most popular aftermarket interface which brings the best results is rumoured to be the BMW Inpa Ediabas interface, this is made to connect to the BMW Inpa software which is basically a heavily watered down version of BMW GT1 and uses a similar GUI therefore this remains the first choice of most DIY operators. Using the Ediabas OBD Interface with BMW DIS V57 & BMW PROGMAN SSS

Using a simple laptop, OBD Softwares DIS / SSS V32 Software package, and a simple off the shelf Ediabas interface lead you will be able to diagnose and read the fault codes from your vehicle. But BMW DIS V57 / Progman SSS V32 is more than just an error code reader, it will give you access to the features on your vehicle which are normally only accessible to the Bmw Dealer, and with the relevent charges which come with it. Not only will you be able to access all of the complex modules which make up the Engine Management and Body Control systems, but you will be able to change the comfort settings and configuration of many of the options which would require a trip to the dealer. The EDIABAS interface is available in various versions, and each type will be applicable to your own vehicle, or the vehicles which you intend to connect the system to. Here is an explanation of the different protocols and connection options, used in BMW vehicles between 1996 and 2008. ADS Interface. This is a round 20 pin connector, usually fitted under the bonnet (Hood) of the vehicle. Usually used on older (Pre 1997 vehicles) this was the first OBD II Compliant interface which BMW Began using back in around 1994 /5 . However care should be excercised, as not all ADS Interfaces were OBDII compliant, some very early models used OBD1 a very slow, very basic protocol which is NOT compatible with BMW DIS V57 or SSS V32. If your vehicle is post 1995, and as an ADS Connector then it is usally OBDII compliant and should work fine with this software. Most EDIABAS Interfaces come with an ADS Adaptor lead, so if your vehicle is an ADS equipped model and is OBDII compliant then you should purchase the lead below. EDIABAS OBD II INTERFACE

Also known as a K-Line interface, this is a rectangle shaped 16 pin connector usually found located under the dashboard or within the passenger compartment of the vehicle. This is the more popular, and common method of connection, as it was used for a period from around 2000 2008 across all models, including:- BMW 1 Series E87 - BMW 3 Series E30 E36 E46 E83 and new E90 - BMW 5 Series E34 E39 E53 and older E60 E61 - BMW 6 Series E63 E64 - BMW 7 Series E38 E65 E66 - BMW 8 Series E31 E52 - BMW X Series E53 - BMW Z Series E85 E52 - MINI Series R50 R52 R53 This EDIABAS interface also comes complete with a lead which enables connection to ADS equipped vehicles. So this is the interface which you should purchase if you intend to diagnose OBD and ADS equipped vehicles. D-Can + K-Line Interface Used with modern vehicles, such as post 2007 E60 and E61 build models and newer X5s , D-Can is a very fast protocol which allows fast reading of the data stored in these newer, more complicated systems, which also include E60, E61 Bmw models since 03/2007 E83 Bmw models since 09/2006 E81, E87 Bmw models since 03/2007 E90, E91, E92, E93 Bmw Models since 03/2007 E70 (new Bmw X5) R56 (new MINI) The D-Can interface is also reverse compatible with K-Line Ediabas systems, so it can be used with the OBD Systems as well. However D-Can is not suitable for the older ADS systems. If you are a garage intending to diagnose a wide range of customer vehicles then purchasing the EDIABAS OBD Interface and D-CAN will pretty much allow you to connect to ADS, EDIABAS K-line OBD and D-CAN vehicles built between 1996 and 2008. D-Can is also the interface of choice, if you are not sure whether your vehicle is D-Can or OBD K-Line EDIABAS equipped. So here is what you need to start diagnosing your vehicle. OBD Softwares DVD Package containing BMW DIS V57 and SSS V32 Progman (ii) A Suitable Laptop, ideally with at least 1GB of Memory and 40GB HDD Space, a serial (RS232) port and running Windows Xp SP2. I recommend either the T23 or T30 laptops made by IBM but any USB laptop can be used if a serial port is not available. In cases such as this, the recommended Belkin RS232 USB interface should also be purchased as results with other types, can be hit and miss. These, just like the complete BMW GT1 Factory Systems are very expensive and rare to come by. There are a few Chinese based companies who sell copies of the BMW GT1 Yellow Head, which is suitable for the BMW GT1 software package, but even these can cost upwards of 500 ($900) and there have been some reports of poor quality products and very little chance of a refund if things go wrong or the interface does not work correctly if at all. There have been many reports of owners making modifications to the BMW GT1 / BMW DIS software which allow the use of cheaper, more readily available Ediabas interfaces to be connected to the BMW Vehicle, in fact many have found it to work just as well as the original BMW interface and report that all of the functions within Bmw Dis and Bmw SSSV32 work. However following some of these modification guides can be conflicting and confusing, especially if you dont have a degree in computer programming or I.T or the patience or time to learn how to modify the system. For this reason, OBD SOFTWARE sells a complete BMW DIS / SSS V32 package which consist of a DVD Disc set and contain simple, easy to follow instructions which enable their software to be installed on a suitable laptop and which contain easy step-by-step instructions on how to configure the software to work with the cheaper, off the shelf EDIABAS interface. BMW INPA / EDIABAS OBD INTERFACE This is possibly the most common and popular aftermarket interface which is used as a cheaper replacement for the original BMW Yellow or Orange Head interface. Originally designed for use on the EDIABAS system which drives the BMW INPA system, it is the first choice of the home mechanic for ease of use as it is completely plug and play and requires no electrical modifications nor any soldering to the lead, and only requires a few modifications to the interface settings within the actual software and operating environment (of which are supplied with the OBD Software package).

D-CAN Interface The D-CAN Interface is a more expensive interface protocol which is designed to work with newer, late 2000 model Bmw vehicles, especially the late build BMW E60 / E61 chassis Models, which do not use the K line OBD System. Another advantage of the D-Can interface, is that it can be used backwards compatible with the older K-Line equipped OBD II vehicles, which would normally use the above EDIABAS interface. Therefore the Bmw D-CAN interface should remain the interface of choice for operating the Bmw DIS / SSS v32 package with a mixture of OBD K-Line Vehicles and D-Can equipped vehicles, or where there is confusion as to whether the model to be tested is OBDII K-Line or D-Can equipped. However the D-CAN interface will be required by owners of newer BMW Vehicles, which are not compatible with the K-Line Ediabas interface sold above. These D-Can equipped vehicles include, for example:E60, E61 Bmw models since 03/2007 E83 Bmw models since 09/2006 E81, E87 Bmw models since 03/2007 E90, E91, E92, E93 Bmw Models since 03/2007 E70 (new Bmw X5) R56 (new MINI) The D-CAN interface may also be considered a strong choice where more than one vehicle is to be tested, such as in a commercial garage or mobile mechanic environment as it can test both the K-Line (1996 2006 vehicles) as well as the newer D-Can vehicles (to 2008) The procedure for setting up the D-CAN interface to work with GT1 / DIS is similar to the EDIABAS procedure and this should be followed. Posted on 28 August 2011 [Translate] You may now be aware that there is a small, well documented flaw when using Bmw Progman SSS V32 to program vehicles when using the non standard Bmw Yellow or Orange Head interfaces, with the Diaghead emulator. During programming and coding procedures, BMW Progman SSS V32, expects to see a voltage of over 13v appearing at the vehicle end. This is to protect the ECU from suffering permanent damage from the vehicle battery going flat during programming and to ensure that the operator is using an external Power Supply Unit to provide the vehicle with a suitable 13v to 14v dc supply. The error with the aftermarket Ediabas interfaces, means that even if a suitable power supply is connected to the vehicle battery, Progman still continues to report an undervoltage (usually 12.4v) despite there being upto 14v present at the vehicle. Unfortunately, this error will prevent Bmw Progman SSS V32 from programming or coding the vehicle due to the continued undervoltage error, and work cannot be carried out. Nothing really other than the fact that Bmw Dis V57 and SSS V32 are the latest version of Bmw GT1 and represent the same features that the Group Tester (GT1) originally contained. Being the latest version, also means that the V57 software package is compatible with much later models of Bmw Vehicles, such as those E83, E60 and E61 vehicles built after 2006 which use the faster D-Can interfaces. What Operating System does Bmw Dis V57 need? We recommend using Windows Xp to run Bmw Dis V57, however the software will also run on Windows 98, Windows 2000, Windows Vista (32 bit) and Windows 7 (32 bit). Please note that 64 bit operating systems are NOT suitable for Bmw Dis V57 software packages. The Bmw Dis V57 software package uses a virtual environment called VMWARE which is included within the software set and replicates the non-windows operating system used within the original Bmw factory and dealer environment, unfortunately, since there was never an official Windows based version of Dis V57 written, it would be impossible to run Bmw Dis V57 under any Windows O/S without also running Vmware. Can I get this to run without the VMWARE environment? No, This isnt software which you can just pop down to PC World or Walmart and buy in a nice XP / Windows 7 ready package. If you want or are looking to use this without VMWARE, then seriously, just take your car to a dealer and pay the $$$ / required to have them diagnose it for you, and please read no further as this is NOT going to be suitable for you. We recommend the Ibm series of laptops, namely the T23 and T30 versions, as these have built in hardware based serial (rs232) ports as well as newer USB on their motherboards, which are directly compatible with the Ediabas interface leads which are serial based. However any laptop with a serial port can be used, such as the older Dell laptops or Toshiba. What is the minimum spec required on my Laptop? We have had Bmw Dis V57 running successfully on laptops with a spec of P3 750 mhz. Needless to say that the higher spec and faster the CPU processor the smoother and quicker the running and operation will be. Whilst CPU sepcificiation is not critical, memory availability is, and so we recommend a minimum memory of 1gb, with 2gb being prefered. The laptop on which the software is being installed, should have at least 35 40gb of free space on the harddrive. Can I run Bmw Dis V57 on a USB port or a laptop with no Serial ports? Yes you can, in fact the D-Can interface which is needed for newer Bmw vehicles only comes in a USB format, however an interface adaptor to convert USB to a Serial port will be required for the Ediabas (inpa) lead interface and this is where some compatibility issues occur with cheap usb serial convertors. We highly recommend that you use the Belkin interface, for connecting a USB port to the Serial connector used on the Ediabas interface, as this has been tested. Details are provided within the instructions on how to set up the COM ports for the Ediabas Interface and the Belkin Serial to USB Convertor. How difficult is it to install Bmw Dis V57? If you can set up a basic home computer network or install software programs from a DVD then you shouldnt have any problems installing Bmw Dis V57 from our disc set. We provide a very comprehensive and detailed instruction manual complete with screenshots showing you how to install and set up each program onto your PC or Laptop. What interface do I need to connect my Bmw or Mini Vehicle to Bmw Dis? There are three main interfaces which are compatible with Bmw Dis V57, and the type required will depend on the model and age of the Bmw vehicle(s) which you intend to connect it to. The three types of Bmw interfaces are, (1) Bmw ADS interface, which is a round 20 pin connector often found under the bonnet (hood) of the vehicle. (2) OBDII interface, a rectangle interface found within the vehicle passenger compartment and (3) Bmw D-Can (sometimes known as OPPS) which is for newer Bmw cars built after 2006/7 (E83 / E60 / E61 etc). More detailed information on Bmw Interfaces, can be found on the Interfaces page. Please Note:- Some Newer D-Can equipped vehicles, require two different interfaces for operation. These vehicles have a traditional OBD Style interface which is used with D-Can to read and diagnose errors, and also an additional Fibre Optic (OPPS) interface which is used for programming. On vehicles equipped with two D-Can and OPPS protocols, you will be able to diagnose using D-Can but you will not be able to program without an OPPS interface. Older vehicles without the OPPS interface, can still be programmed and diagnosed through the standard OBDII port. Do you supply installation instructions? Sadly no. Remember that you are using the same software as is used by the Bmw factory and also technicians at the Bmw dealers all over the world, so there was never any need for a user guide being produced and made available outside of the Bmw environment as it was never intended to be used by the general public. However a lot of the software operation is self-explanatory and uses a menu driven system which is fairly easy to navigate and understand and the majority of people are able to carry out basic diagnostic and coding functions without issue. However, if you didnt have some knowledge of vehicle repairs and software operation, then you probably wouldnt be on this website, or be considering doing your own Bmw Diagnostics or have read this far!. The main differences between BMW GT1 and BMW DIS V57 are that programming functions such as detailed coding of BMW electronic modules are carried out by the seperate BMW Progman V32 program, whilst previously they were all integrated into the older BMW GT1. BMW DIS V57 offers much more flexibility than third party products, such as BMW Carsoft and even INPA. Diagnostic functions are much improved and are read in greater depth allowing diagnosis to proceed much further and in better detail than other products. In addition to factory level diagnostics, BMW DIS V57 allows the operator to access and complete dealer level servicing functions, and allows elements such as adaption settings to be reset ( including MAF sensor adaption) as well as DME and Auto Gearbox parameters. Diagnostic error codes are linked directly to TIS, where the operator is given a step by step guide to locating the faulty component(s) through a flow chart of tests. (For a copy of the TIS Workshop Manual please see our package below) BMW DIS V57 also allows the coding of injectors on diesel models. This enables the user to replace injectors outside of the BMW dealer network and then simply enter the 6 digit code of the new injector by using BMW DIS. BMW DIS V57 will connect to all BMW Models manufactured between 1990 and 2008, it is also compatible with MINI Models manufactured by BMW between 2001 - 2008. BMW DIS V57 will read and diagnose DDE Modules, ABS / Traction Control Modules, Air Conditioning Control Units, On Board Computer / Information display (dashboard), Light Check Control Modules, ZKV / ZKM Module, EGS Auto Gearbox Control System, EWS (Immobiliser) control unit, Park Distance Control (PDC) Functions and CVM Roof functions on soft top models. The software will also allow the usual dealer level service interval resets, and will also display actual running data from some compatible vehicles manufactured after 1996. BMW Progman SSS V32 is the Software service station program which allows full programming and coding of BMW / Mini modules. This allows coding of replacement modules such as after replacing instrument clusters or immobilisers. On some models of vehicles, BMW Progman will also allow the changing of special user functions such as selective locking and synchronisation of Immobiliser and ECU DDE Modules on Diesel vehicles where they are required.
