HCL Smart Library Management System has been designed to automate,

It uses RFID technology for efficient library operations. The advantage of using RFID technology in libraries: Unique Product identification Multiple item check in and check out Rapid inventory check & Anti theft mechanisms.

The cataloging includes tagging of materials with RFID smart labels and the database entry of its details. The HCL LMS supports cataloging of books, magazines, journals, thesis and reports. The details of materials like title, author, publisher, publication year are entered in to the database The library staff can use desktop RFID readers for Check out of library items. Users are validated through their smart cards and books to be issued are placed on the reader. During this security tag on the smart labels are deactivated and a receipt is printed with details of issued books along with due date. The books to be returned are placed on the desktop reader. The system automatically calculates fines and deducts the same from the prepaid users smart card. On returning of books the security bit on the smart labels are activated. A return receipt is printed with details of books returned and fines. Users can use self Check out kiosks to return items without the assistance of library staff. Book Drop

Borrowers can return library materials through book drop boxes placed at convenient locations. The book is returned automatically by reading the smart labels in the book.

The RFID Gate Readers at the library will alarm if any unborrowed material is taken out of the library. The HCL LMS will also be notified by the reader if any un-borrowed material is taken out

Faster inventory check, Shelf management and searching of materials can be done through a portable hand held reader. It can also be used for stock verification and finding of misplaced items. The user information is stored in a smart card which contains the user ID, details of the books issued and fines if any. The same smart card can also be used for auto fine debit / collection
