OXFORD THINKING HOW YOU CAN HELP

Mr A B Sample 1 Sample Street Sample Village Sample Town Hong Kong

September 2011 Dear Name Surname, I am inviting you to make a gift today to help Oxford search for solutions to some of the worlds most complex, ever-changing challenges, such as ageing populations, water security, threats to biodiversity and conflict resolution. You can help support our academics as they strive for answers to improve the world we live in, and teach our students the skills that they will need to adapt to the new challenges which will emerge. The Oxford Book of Puzzles enclosed with this letter shows you how, in the University and in the colleges, our people are working to find solutions to even the most seemingly intractable problems. They employ an agile, lateral, intensive form of thinking: Oxford Thinking. And it is Oxford Thinking the Campaign that unites our University that will help fund their endeavours. Your gift will power new thinking, but can also do much more: the world-leading research pioneered at Oxford will shape our society. It will help transform the lives of millions of people around the world for the better. You can help support research that will enable our academics to pursue their thinking into fields of intellectual enquiry both ancient and modern, and then apply that thinking to our world today. You can help support bursaries and scholarships that will enable our students with the talent they bring and the potential we seek out to come to Oxford, no matter what their means or where they come from. You can help support the Oxford tutorial system by securing teaching posts to enable our academics to continue to stretch the abilities of our students, opening up new opportunities they had never previously thought possible. Whatever you choose to support, whatever you can afford to give, you will help Oxford Thinking find world-changing answers. Yours sincerely,

Professor Andrew Hamilton

Vice-Chancellor, University of Oxford
