Hi all,

I will be mapping Mandai Mangroves in terms of its vegetation for my Honours project. I'll be using a cool
equipment called the total station (a camera set up on a tripod stand used by construction workers and
architects:
For this survey, I will have to
(a) measure tree diameters
(b) identify tree species,
(c) map trees with total station
and
(d) tag trees

I need two(2) field helpers per day to assist me. It would be nice if you
and another friend (who you can invite along) to tag along for ease of
communication. Do sign up as well if you have not been to a mangrove or
Mandai mangroves. I will give you a short0guided tour on Mandai as we
navigate through the mangroves.
The roles of the helpers are:
Helper 1
-Measure DBH(girth) height of a tree
-mark position of DBH measurement with white chalk sticks
-collection of leaves, fruits and photographic evidence (only for trees identified to genus level)
Helper 2
-setup of total station: I will teach you how set it up
-obtain GPS coordinates from total station (shooting laser from total station to marked DBH points)
My Role
-identify tree species
-tag trees
-record data into log book
The dates and times of my fieldwork for October 2011 are tabled below. There will be dates which I can't
make it but my lab-mate, Wei Kit will take over my duties on those dates.
Please do sign up for as many dates as you can make it. Let me know which dates you are keen to help
me and I will follow-up on your replies. I will not be able to remunerate your help but rest assured you will
be treated to a BIG FEAST at the end of my project.
Kindly email me at leongchinrick@gmail.com or text me at 9882 8601 (please include your name in your
SMSes) for further inquires and etc.
Kindly disseminate this email to anyone who maybe interested to help me.
Looking forward to an awesome mangrove-y time with you.
Cheers, Rick :)
