INTRODUCTION Recreational Mathematics is a course that aims to develop awareness among students of the possibility of learning of mathematics through

enjoyment and of appreciating mathematics as a recreational activity so that they will be interested in mathematics and they will not be fearful when learning and teaching mathematics.

In this course, we are assigned to plan and develop games and puzzles based on Brunei Mathematics Syllabus.

On Tuesday, 25th March 2008, I presented and introduced four new invented games for Recreational Mathematics in front of the lecturer, Dr. See Kin Hai, and the peers. The title of the four games I presented and introduced to them are: 1) Caught in the Middle 2) Vroom~! Move Fast, Think Faster! 3) Pairs Up! 4) What Am I?

CAUGHT IN THE MIDDLE The first game that I presented and introduced to them was Caught in the Middle.

How many players? The number of players for this game is two persons.

What is the aim and objective of this game? The aim of this game is to be the first to reach the opposite end and the objective of the game is to think of strategies before moving.

Who are the targeted audience? The targeted audience is the lower and upper primary levels pupils.

What are the materials needed? The materials needed for this game are: 1. Checkers mat (10 by 14)

2. Twenty coloured marbles

i.e. player A ten white marbles player B ten blue marbles

How to start this game? To start this game, you need to put the ten marbles, i.e. white marbles, at the end of the checkers mat and the other ten marbles, i.e. blue marbles, at the other end of the checkers mat.

How to play this game? To play this game: The players need to take turns to move a marble to the empty box The players can only move forward and sideways but cannot move backward and diagonals The players must only move one spot at a time Can take opponents marbles when his/her marble is in between your two marbles

Player whose marble reach the opposite end first, wins the game.

VROOM~! MOVE FAST, THINK FASTER! The second game that I presented and introduced was the Vroom~! Move Fast, Think Faster!.

How many players? The minimum number of players for this game is two persons and the maximum number of players for this game is twelve persons.

What are the aim and the objectives of this game? The aim of the game is to be the first to reach the end of the game and the objectives are to motivate children to think mentally and to motivate children to think faster.

Who are the targeted audience? The targeted audience for this game is the upper primary levels pupils.

What are the materials needed? The materials needed are: 1. Board

How to start? To start this game you need to place the questions cards and the instruction cards on the board and place your toy cars at the Start.

How to play? To play this game, the players need to: Throw both dices and then move your toy car on the board according to the number on the dices Then you need to take one question card and MUST answer it within 10 seconds! (Other player or players can do the counting) If you can answer the question within 10 seconds, you may proceed one spot If you cant answer the question within 10 seconds, you need to move backward five spots When you stop at a spot with a car picture on it, you MUST take one instruction card and follow the instructions

The first player to reach the end wins the game.

PAIS UP! The third game that I presented and introduced was Pairs Up!.

How many players? The minimum number of players for this game is two players.

What are the aim and the objectives of this game? The aim of this game is to pair up the same shape and name and the objectives of the game are to identify the shapes with its names and to identify the shapes characteristics.

Who is the targeted audience? The targeted audience for this game is the upper primary level pupils.

What are the materials needed? The materials needed are: 1. Shapes (Equilateral triangle, isosceles triangle, scalene triangle, right angled triangle, pentagon, hexagon, octagon, rectangle, square and circle)

3. Questions papers

How to start? To start this game, you need to divide the class into two groups, i.e. group A and group B, of players. In group A, give each player one different shape from the others while in group B, give each player one different name card from the others.

How to play? To play this game: the person in charge, i.e. the teacher, need to read out the question to the players If the players think they have the answer, they need to stand up. (One player from each

WHAT AM I? The fourth and the last game I presented and introduced was What Am I?.

How many players? The minimum number of players for this game is two persons and the maximum number of players is nine persons.

What are the aim and the objectives of this game? The aim of the game is to make other players to guess what the other person is trying to say or tell them. The objectives of the game are to identify shapes and its names and to identify the shapes characteristics.

Who is the targeted audience? The targeted audience is the upper primary levels pupils.

What are the materials needed? The material needed is: 1. Number cards with the name of a particular shape at the back

How to start? To start this game, you need to place the number cards from one to nine of the board.

How to play? To play this game: The person in charge, i.e. the teacher, asks a player to take one number card from the board Instruct him/her to tell the characteristics of the shape he/she got to the rest of the player without saying the shapes name The rest of the players must guess the shape.

CONCLUSION The four games that I presented and introduced to the lecturer and the peers can be understood and played by them. There are no difficulties when playing the games and they enjoyed it.
