It is hard to imagine that the terror attacks in the United States which struck the World Trade Center in New York, The Pentagon in Washington DC and the foiled attack which resulted in a passenger aircraft crash killing all aboard was ten years ago on September 11th, 2001.

t is clear that for the united States this will be one of those of those days which brings the society closer together supermarkets in rural areas are fund raising with walls covered in badges purchased by shoppers. Small towns in up-state new York are installing remnants of the tower as memorials in a manner akin to that in Europe after the World Wars of the twentieth Century. On the tenth anniversary of that fateful day new York will hold observance of the 10th Anniversary of September 11 at the national September 11 memorial, located in the World trade Center Site in lower manhattan. the ceremony will also serve as the official opening of the national memorial. the memorial includes the names of those who perished on September 11, 2001 at the World trade Center, the Pentagon, and on Flight 93, as well as the six victims of the World

he ceremony will officially begin at 08:40 A.m Eastern Standard time. this year the ceremony will pause at six moments twice to mark the times that each plane hit the towers, twice to mark the time when each tower fell and to mark the moments of the attacks on the Pentagon and on Flight 93. the first moment of silence will be at 8:46 A.m., and houses of worship have been asked to toll their bells at that time. the ceremony will conclude at approximately 1:00 pm with a preliminary program as follows:

he site of the 9/11 attacks once cleared of rubble led to a lengthy debate as to what should succeed the twin towers which lasted years until being resolved in 2005. Finally decision-makers decided to construct a tower which would be the largest building in the united States, reaching a height of 1,776 ft. (the number coinciding with the year in which the American Revolution started). 2009 saw the building formally named One World trade Center and when completed in 2013 will contain some 2,600,000 square feet of office space (242,000 square meters). Planned tenants include government agencies, new York authorities, a China business forum and magazine Conde nast.

he design of the towers incorporates many features which are environmentally friendly in nature such as rainwater capture and design to lEED standards. Security-wise the building has been designed from its foundations with safety in mind. From special filters throughout the air conditioning system to 3 foot thick (1m) concrete walls to wider fire-escape stairs, to dedicated firefighter fire-access the building seeks to make its residents feel safe and put behind it the shadow of the buildings predecessor and its sad demise.
