Question 1 Considering that you are traveling from the university to your home town by using multi-mode of transport.

Explain your own format.

Transport is the system of carrying passengers or good. From university, the only best transportation to get from theres to terminal is taxi. Taxi is a car-like, more expensive rather than bus. In Masai, I had called the taxi to taking me, and the rate is depending on the meter. Even though the meter showing that I need to pay RM12.00, they did charging me RM15.00 when arrived at the terminal Masai. In Terminal Masai, another type of transportation that I was used is public services. That bus applied unsystematic payment for ticketing. This can be worse, when peoples need to adapt longer queuing when paying for ticketing. That bus also doesnt open their luggage space, which imposed me to holding my entire luggage within packed passenger. These, make me uncomfortable because the trip is stuck by jammed and taking more time rather than expected. When reaching terminal Larkin, that bus doesnt want send their passengers into terminal, because of dont want encounter the jammed because of many buses in terminal area. From that point, I need to walk with carrying my heavy luggage to the terminal lobby. I am just taking express bus which is Transnasional to continuing my journey to back home. The tickets that I was purchased is showing Johor Bahru to Kelantan; 12.0a.m because of the ticket to Kuantan was sold out. In 12.00 a.m, I was waiting my bus, but until 12.20a.m, bus doesnt arrive yet. 30 minutes after that, the bus had arrive. Approximately 8.00a.m Im arrived Kelantan. From Kelantan, I had taking train to Temerloh. In Temerloh, I found difficulties to get buses or taxi for taking me to terminal. I need walks a mile and found taxi. The taxi was sending me to bus terminal, and I purchase ticket to Kuantan which of my homeland. That bus I ride is so lame, because air Cond cannot operate and the window cant accelerate. I arrived at Kuantan around 7.00a.m, and intended to take city buses to get my home. Unfortunately, the last bus only operates until 6.45p.m. As the solutions, I had made decision to taking taxi. In Kuantan, the taxis didnt have meter, and they just estimate to put fare for their service, these can occurred unfair for the customer which is me. For 15KM journey, they had charges me RM30 and this is unreasonable.

Question 2 Given the opportunity on the above situation, describes your own suggestion on how to further improve the services.

The Public Transport Authority would own the buses and provide capital funding, while the operators would be required to compete for routes. This combination of regulation and competition would improve service levels and provide better, customer-focused services. Operators that could not meet the expectations of the Local Authority or the passengers would lose the routes to their competitors. Competition is hurting public transportation in Malaysia. The only way that we can see real improvements is to reduce competition within the industry and focus on consolidation. The largest bus company, Konsortium Transnasional Berhad, is a good example of this consolidation. It offers express and intercity and urban bus services through its different branches and brands. Konsortium Bas Ekspres on the other hand, shows you what happens when there is consolidation without proper regulation. Konsortium Bas Ekspres has become notorious for bus crashes, underpaid and reckless drivers, and poor maintenance. The government should encourage existing operators to form properly regulated conglomerates like Konsortium Transnasional Berhad (KTB). Under the proposed system of regulated competition, the Local Authority can even (with proper justification) invite foreign transport companies like First and Veolia and ComfortDelGro to compete for bus routes tendered in their areas. Mass-transit networks are vital for urban and suburban areas. Each economic region of Malaysia should have a complete public transport network and the backbone of this network comes from rail services. Instead of focusing on building "more lines" and "more extensions" the goal should be completing the network as quickly and effectively as possible. Once effective, rapid networks are in place, we can plan and upgrade capacity on the various lines. Johor Bahru should have their own MRT, because their town is nearly same to K.L, and the jam can be seen anywhere, because society in Johor just rely on private car also buses and taxi only. Bus operators needs used e-ticketing such as touch and go. This can prevents passenger from longer queuing. Another method is, made a promotion, if used touch and go, customer will get discounts rather than manual payment. At the same time, higher fares do not have to be a burden. Under the system of regulated competition, the local authority would be able to run the fare system and they would be the best choice to implement the subsidy for operators. The bus operators also should maximize their time services in city area. For example, from 6.00a.m7.00p.m to 6.00a.m-9.00p.m, because many peoples working until night. They can increase little bit for the fares in night, as long not burdening their passengers. For the taxi service, the best solution for cases like meter cheating, they can implement such as ticketing system based on miles and Kilometers. To enforce these, need some entity to monitors this system.
