WLAN/Network - Configuration

While using the HEX-NET as an access point (WLAN with name

of the serial number of the device), the WLAN connection is
relatively simple. Integration of the HEX-NET into an existing
WLAN requires more background knowledge.

The IP address of the HEX-NET is 192.168.0.1 by default. You

can find out the IP address by connecting the HEX-NET via USB
to the PC and starting the HEX-NET configuration tool.

The easiest way is to use the HEX-NET as WIFI Access Point

(AP), this is the default setting. In this case the HEX-NET spans a
WLAN with the own serial number as name:

Connect your computer to this WLAN and you can use the HEX-
NET either with VCDS on your Windows computer or VCDS-
Mobile via web browser.

VCDS-Mobile is used by entering the IP address of the HEX-NET
as URL in the web browser, the HEX-NET default password is
password.

The HEX-NET can not only be used as an access point, but can
also be integrated into a WLAN: For a car dealership the
integration into an existing WLAN makes sense for the following
reasons:

• Access to network printers and network drives.

• Internet access for updates, Dieselschrauber Fault Code
Database etc.

The following information is important for integration into an

existing WLAN and must be clarified by you in advance:

• Name of the WLAN and its password.

• Network topology, which IP address range does the
network use? E.g. 192.168.1.1 - 192.168.1.255 with
netmask 255.255.255.0
• Which is the "gateway" to reach other networks or the
Internet? E.G. 192.168.1.1
• Possibly used/configured DHCP address ranges. With
DHCP, IP addresses can be assigned dynamically instead
of configuring them permanently. For devices like a
diagnostic system it is not useful if it has a different
address at every start.
