Message from the National Director

March 2011

lpha Hong Kong started forcefully into the New Year with many exciting events in the first quarter. We ran a 2-day classic Alpha training for 72 brothers and sisters from Sheng Kung Hui at St. Stephens Church in January, a 2day classic Alpha training for 130 brothers and sisters from 16 Churches at Kwun Tong Baptist Church in February, and an Alpha intro day for 25 pastors from China in January. We pray that God will work in the hearts of these brothers and sisters to fan the fire of passion to spread His Gospel. We cling to His promise, Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if Tricia Neill we do not give up. Gal 6:9

We are thrilled to be moving to our new office at Kodak House at the end of

March. Being good stewards of Gods assets, we are moving into a significantly smaller space which will trim our rental cost by half. This will allow us to redeploy our resources for ministry development. The new office has a magnificent view of the harbor facing towards north. I know God wants to remind us everyday to work towards reclaiming China for Him. We have great things going on in China already, but your help to support us in converting Alpha resources to Putonghua and Chinese is much needed to help us penetrate deeper. We are grateful to have Tricia Neill, executive director of Alpha International, to come and share the Global Alpha Vision with our friends at the Alpha Partners Dinner on 12th March, and to raise awareness of our financial needs. Message from the National Director

During the first quarter, we also met with our Advisers from the Catholic Church, and Advisers for Alpha in the Workplace. We need to hear from them how Alpha can better serve their groups and how we can penetrate deeper into the community. I whole-heartedly agree with Charles Stanley who once wrote Prayer is the God-ordained method through which you can have access to His unlimited resources for your problems. Starting from February, we went to different districts to join the local Churches in prayers for their community and their needs, expressing our love and care for them, and pray for Gods light to enter the district and capture the hearts of the lost souls. In February, we went to Tsung Tsin Mission of Hong Kong Shaukiwan Church; in March, we went to Kwun Tong Baptist Church. We hope to reach as many districts as possible during the rest of the year. Along the same grain of thoughts, we moved away from the monthly prayer meeting for Alpha Prison ministry at a Church and ventured to do a prayer walk for a prison in March.

Twenty-one brothers & sisters joined us in a prayer walk at Tai Lam Correctional Institute to pray for God to open the door of the prison and raise up a group of volunteers to bless the inmates by running an Alpha Course. We will continue to Pray Until Something Happens (P.U.S.H.)

New Office Dedication Service

We are moving! God has prepared a new office for us in North Point. A Dedication Service was held on February 17, led by our Board members Gary Cheng, Garland Cheng, Robert Tsoi, Ps John Snelgrove, Jason Young and National Director Carol Liu. Alpha Advisers Ronnie Butt and Brian Woo, and our worship leader Marcus Kroese were also there to pray for Gods guidance and anointing on us. As we prayed, we were inspired that this office is for Gods business and were encouraged by Gods Word and blessing that My cup overflows. (Psalm 23:5b)

In Spring, more than 10 schools and churches who started the course late last year continued with the last few talks or the Alpha Camp (with one in the Catholic context). In February and March, about 8 other schools and churches started their 2011 youthalpha. Lets pray that God will open these hearts in 18 schools and churches and reveal Himself to these young souls. We will be partnering with Ladder Mission for the 4C Oasis summer camp and targeting for 5,000 teenagers this summer. The vision of the camp is to build the body of Christ in the next generation, and for each teenager to discover 4Cs Courage, Care, Commitment and Christ. youthalpha will be used as a follow up for the camp to give the teenagers a systematic view of the full gospel.

Alpha in the Workplace

The first A l p h a in the

Workplace Advisers Meeting this year was held on February 23. Thanks to Helen Chan, Brian Woo, Ronnie Butt, Denny Liu and Gilbert Ng, our new Alpha in the Workplace Adviser, for joining the meeting and giving us advice on how to encourage more people to start an Alpha course in their offices. I have seen peoples lives being changed by Jesus with Alpha, and I have great joy running every course, said Gilbert, who has run over 10 Alpha courses in his office since 2005. Gilbert also said that he has met many customers who are

suffering from critical illnesses, and realized that it is often their hearts that need to be healed. He was called to do something for them and was then introduced to the Alpha course. This was how it all started in his office.

GOD AT WORK Course

The course h a s allowed our members to focus on work-specific topics, such as Stress, Tough Decisions and Work-Life Balance, which are relevant not only to Christians, but also to non-believers, said Helen, a member of the GOD AT WORK course from Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui St. Pauls Church. These topics are not new to us, but we have enjoyed looking at each topic in such a depth and have always run out of time sharing and discussing, said Helen. Helen also said that the course is easy to run, and group members would take turns to lead each of the eight topics, with the Leaders Guide, Guest Manual and the GOD AT WORK book, as well as the podcast from the GOD AT WORK website. http://www.alpha.org.hk/godatwork/index_en.htm

Va r i o u s English and Chinese speaking churches are running the Alpha course in Spring. At the Alpha Invitation Lunch at Community Church Hong Kong on February 27th, Dr. Leung In-Sing, the President of Culture Regeneration Research Society, shared how he recognized the instability of all things in the world during his sufferings; through Christianity, he was able to communicate with the eternal and unchanging God who is sovereign over all things, the ultimate force behind the dao (structure, Logos) of this world.
