The Pictorialist

October 2011 Newsletter of the Photo Pictorialists of Milwaukee Established 1904 Affiliated with the Photographic Society of America Wisconsin Area Camera Clubs Organization And the Wisconsin Print Circuit Richard Yehl, President; Sandra Weber, Vice President Dixie Lowin, Treasurer; Bert Hartinger, Secretary-Editor Meetings are held the first and third Thursdays of each month from September thru May at 7pm, in the Luther Manor Conference Room, 4545 N. 92nd St., Wauwatosa, Wisconsin Whats Happening in October We got off to a good program year start with the meeting September 15. Del Desens educated us on how to dry mount photographs and gave us ideas on how to hang framed photographs for a neat display. Bob Lauer showed us how he displays photos using molding which allow photos to be easily switched. These methods of display are better than the editors, which consists of photos on the floor leaning against the walls. At our October 6 meeting we are asked to bring four photographs illustrating modes of transportation. Bring them on a memory stick if you have one, or bring prints. If you havent done so already at the previous meeting, bring prints for the Wisconsin Print Circuit competition, one in color and one black and white, sized 8x10 up to 16x20 inches. The prints should be unmounted. Prints are also needed for the mystery display on one of the two panels in the Welcome Center at Luther Manor. Needed are at least six mystery sets, consisting of three photos of part of an object and a photo of the complete object. An outing is planned to Wisconsin Dells and surrounding points of interest, on October 8. We will visit the H. H. Bennett photo studio there, and there are other attractions in the vicinity we can choose from, such as the International Crane Foundation, The Mid Continent Train Museum in North Freedom, Fair on the Square in downtown Baraboo, Devils Lake and Mirror Lake State Parks, Pueits Nest which is a nature area near Baraboo, etc. We can talk at the next meeting about car pooling. Richard Yehl suggests we meet at the south Park and Ride lot at Hwy 45 and Watertown Plank Road at 8 am. Then, at the October 20 meeting bring images taken on the outing. LM Photo Displays A sign up sheet was passed around so we know who will provide display photos in the coming months. A new display is needed for October and for several of the coming months. Once we have sign ups for the complete year the list will be published in the newsletter. Dues Payments Just a reminder, dues payments should be given or sent to Treasurer Dixie Lowin is you havent done so already. Dues are (only) $20.00 for an individual and $30.00 for a couple. PSA Kathy Braun has an article in the September 2011 issue of the PSA Journal, about the talent of young

photographers represented in the PSA Youth Photography Showcase. New Club Members Wanted Brochures and flyers about the Photo Pictorialists, edited by Pauline Beck, have been distributed to places likely to attract new club members, such as photography stores and local libraries. The new web site, http://photopictorialist.com, designed and edited by Sandra Weber also should bring interested persons in contact with the photo club. Talk up the camera club to persons we know who are interested in doing more than snapshots with their cameras. Invite them to come to our meetings. Welcome to a new club member, Jim Krivitz, 2134 W. Daphne Road., Glendale, WI 53209, e-mail Jameskrivitz@wi.rr.com. He joined us in September. WACCO Events The deadline for submitting entries for the fall WACCO competition is Oct. 22.
