Town centre shoplifters tackled POLICE have carried out extra patrols in Heswall town centre following concerns over shoplifting in the area. Police community support officers and special constables will continue toengage with shop keepers in order to reduce crime. Burglar jailed A 23-year-old man from Kirkby, has been jailed for 12 months at Liverpool Crown Court after he was convicted of burgling a house and aggravated theft from a car in Hinderton Drive, Heswall. He was also disqualified from driving for three years. The charity shop, the hospices second in Heswall, was launched by Tranmere Rovers players last month. Craft fair date Macmillan Cancer will be holding its Centenary Art and Craft Fair at Heswall Hall on Wednesday 5th October from 10.30am-3.30pm. There will be a wide range of hand made goods from jewellery, specialist glass ware, household items, cards for all occasions and a selection of art work. Proceeds will be used to support people living here in Wirral who have a cancer diagnosis.

Pubgoers step out on Cumbrian trail

THE lads at the Black Horse pub in Lower Heswall walked Buster the dog, the 70 mile trek from Ulverston to Carlisle in May this year. Off they went to challenge the Cumbrian Way, one of the most popular long distance treks of England, all in aid of Claire House Childrens Hospice. Several pints were drunk along the way, which included some tough days in the Lake District. The challenge raised a massive 5,388 for the hospice, which the pub has supported over the last 10 years.

U3A is a group for older people no longer in full time work to share learning experiences and to pursue learning not for qualifications, but for fun. Meetings are in Heswall Hall on the second Monday of each month. Admission is 1 for members and 2 for visitors. 10th October. Grey skies and red shanks-Autumn and winter on the Dee Estuary. Stores gift to help sick children

CLairE House Childrens Hospice has received 3,120 from the Tesco Foundation. The Foundation is committed to supporting community projects in the local area that help sick children. This donation will be used to buy four oxygen concentrators, a vital piece of medical equipment for the children. Lindsay Kennedy, community champion at Tesco Heswall, visited the hospice recently. Jennifer Higgs from Claire House, said: It was fantastic to receive such a wonderful donation from Tesco Community Awards and also to be able to show them around the hospice. Its not often that we have the opportunity to show off the work we do here. The concentrators are in daily use and will make such a difference to the lives of our children; we hugely appreciate the efforts of Lindsay, Tesco Heswall and all involved.

Johns follow-up novel recalls a Scouse teens dilemmas

John, who lives in Gayton, has penned Everton or What which is based on his experiences as a young man in Liverpool in the 1960s. Its a follow up to his first book called Growing up in Liverpool before Beatlemania which was based on his teenage diaries of the time. Said John: Quite a number of people asked me to do a follow-up, but I had not kept any more diaries. Therefore, I decided to write this latest book as a novel, with the story being influenced by personal experiences, but, being fiction, it gives the author poetic licence.
