AIDS/SIDA NB Inc. is a provincial organization committed to facilitating community-based responses to the issues of HIV/AIDS. The aim is to promote and support the health and well being of persons living with and affected by HIV/AIDS and to reduce the spread of HIV in New Brunswick.

AIDS New Brunswick is committed to the principles of Greater/Meaningful Involvement of People living with HIV/AIDS. The Health and Wellness Committee is only one of the many opportunities for the PHA population of New Brunswick to become meaningfully involved in the decisions that affect their lives.

BENEFITS to Becoming a member of the Health &

Wellness Committee and/or a client of AIDS NB include access to: PLWHIV/AIDS Support Fund: As a member of AIDS New Brunswick, a PHA can access the fund on an annual basis for financial help in the following areas: treatment, travel to medical services, eye and dental care, and special temporary situations that may put health and well-being at risk. Jocelyn Paul Skills Building Fund: When skills building and information sharing opportunities arise, AIDS New Brunswick provides access to funds to help support a PHA wishing to partake in these events. Events may include but not limited to the Canadian AIDS Treatment Information Exchange (CATIE), Canadian AIDS Society (CAS) and Canadian HIV/AIDS Legal Network (CHLN) conferences and Annual General Meetings. Gatherings: We offer opportunities for PLWHIV/AIDS to meet, share experiences, learn and provide peer support. Gatherings can take place as a day-long event or longer and ideally occurs at least once a year. Positive Nutrition Programme: AIDS NB with financial support from the MAC AIDS Fund have developed the Positive Nutrition Programme. The project provides multifaceted support and holistic health promotion to PLWHIV/AIDS in New Brunswick through nutrition education, skill sharing, network building and food subsidies. Newsletters: Receive a free subscription to Pozitive News published four times a year and receive the latest breaking news by subscribing to our electronic on-line alerts. Automatic Membership to AIDS New Brunswick and voting rights at the Annual General Meeting.

ITS MANDATE
The Health and Wellness Committee will promote an increased participation by people living with HIV/AIDS (PHA) in New Brunswick in the decision-making process of AIDS New Brunswick in terms of advocacy initiatives, programs and services.

ITS GOALS ARE


a) To promote participation and membership of persons living with HIV/AIDS in the Health and Wellness Committee of AIDS New Brunswick; b) To represent the views, opinions and needs of PLWHIV/AIDS in New Brunswick; c) To provide input on programs and policy development for AIDS New Brunswick. d) To develop opportunities and forums for dialogue, skills building and information sharing for PLWHIV/AIDS within New Brunswick. e) To develop mechanisms to promote self-help networks of PLWHIV/AIDS to provide compassionate support to those in need of friendship, moral support, advice, visitation and shared experiences.

ITS MEMBERSHIP
The Health and Wellness Committee is open to any person living with HIV/AIDS in New Brunswick. Membership is managed by completing an application form (proof of diagnosis may be required before membership is approved). The Chair or designate will review and approve all membership applications. All applications are treated as per the membership policy of AIDS New Brunswick and strictly confidential.

STEERING COMMITTEE
The membership of the Health and Wellness Committee will elect from among its members a Steering Committee which will consist of a minimum of 5 and maximum of 10 volunteer members from the PLWHIV/AIDS community.
