at this breakfast. The theme is: Are You Living the Christian Lifestyle? A man and woman had their car stolen one night. A few days later it was returned with a full tank of gas, no damage and a note saying we are sorry we took your car. The couple was so thankful they went to church on Sunday and put a little extra in the offering plate. They came home only to find their home had been robbed and everything was gone. Had the couple known they would be robbed wouldnt they have stayed to defend their belongings? Had they known that the theft of the car would start a snowball effect, wouldnt they set the car alarm? Had they known wouldnt they? How about you? If you knew when Jesus was returning, wouldnt you pray more, study more and witness more? Matthew 24:43-44 elicits a powerful question; So when Jesus comes what will you be doing?

Staff Info

With October being World Hunger Month, you may be interested to know this information from an article in the New York Times. Grocery bills are rising through the roof. Food banks are running short of donations. And food shortages are causing sporadic riots in poor countries through the world. Youd never know it if you saw what was ending up in your landfill. As it turns out, Americans waste an astounding amount of food an estimated 27 percent of the food available for consumption, according to a government study and it happens at the supermarket, in restaurants and cafeterias and in your very own kitchen. It works out to about a pound of food every day for every American. Grocery stores discard products because of spoilage or minor cosmetic blemishes. Restaurants throw away what they (cont. p.3)

Christ was common to all in love, in teaching, in tender consolation, in generous gifts, in merciful forgiveness. His soul and his body, his life and his death and his ministry were, and are, common to all. His sacraments and his gifts are common to all. Christ never took any food or drink, nor anything that his body needed, without intending by it the common good of all those who shall be saved, even unto the last day.

A Special Note To: The Men Plan to attend the movie, Courageous with WLBC as a group, THIS SATUDAY October 1. We will all meet at the church at 6:00pm. Theater prices apply. Show some courage of your own and attend but be prepared to be changed.

And consumers toss out everything from bananas that have turned brown to last weeks Chinese leftovers. In 1997, in one of the few studies of food waste, the Department of Agriculture estimated that two years before, 96.4 billion pounds of the 356 billion pounds of edible food in the United States was never eaten. Fresh produce, milk, grain products and sweeteners made up two-thirds of the waste. This information is a few years old but certainly we all recognize the waste in our own home, even with our best efforts not to waste during this economic crisis. cery money to the World Hunger Fund? That may sound like a big request but if we dont over buy these next four weeks for our own homes, we can give that extra money we dont spend? It seems like there are mainly two reasons why we over buy. First, we buy in bulk to save on cost per pound/ item. Second, we dont want to have to go shopping again, wasting gas and our time, so we buy plenty to choose from. Inevitably, these two reasons can cause us to have to throw food out or have extra of something that we are tired of eating. So we undermine our own plans to save. With that said, please consider the suggestion (bolded) above and put that extra grocery money saved in a purple World Hunger Fund envelope.

The Red-faced Usher When an elderly woman asked a church usher to seat her close to the pulpit, he tried to talk her out of it. If you sit up front, you wont be able to sleep, he said. She looked the usher square in the face and asked, Do you know who I am? No, I dont, he replied. Well, stating firmly, Im the preachers mother. Fully embarrassed, the usher asked, Do you know who I am? No, she said. Good! whispered the fellow. Sit anywhere you want.
