1.0 SCOPE OF WORKS The work shall include forming and shaping embankment, slope and closed turfing for runway as per approved construction drawing.(KLPC/161/C/EW/STD/01) 2.0 WORK DESCRIPTION 2.1 Generally the embankment for runway is type 3 according to the construction drawing.(KLPC/161/C/EW/LAY/01) 2.2 The settlement plate and surface marker will be installed before backfilling work for monitoring settlement of the embankment as per drawing. (KLPC/161/C/EW/STD/02) 2.3 Fill material for use in forming embankments shall be suitable material obtained from excavation in cutting or borrow pit. 2.4 Prior to commencement of the works, the selected sample from the source of cutting or borrow pits shall be sent for laboratory test for Proctor Test, moisture content, Atterberg limit and sieve analysis to determine its suitability for forming embankments. 2.5 Trial compaction shall be carried out at the designated area of the site to determine the pattern of compaction for each main type of material to be used. 2.6 Unsuitable material should be removed after stripping topsoil. The Resident Engineer will decide the depth of unsuitable material to be remove depends on site condition. 2.7 After that replace the area with suitable material and compacted properly. 2.8 Every layer should be about 300mm thickness and compacted to 90% of maximum dry density. 2.9 The density test shall be earned out in every compacted layer to comply with BS1377. 2.10 On the fill slope, the filling shall be in layer and with extended width of one meter extra for cut back and formed the compacted slope. 2.11 The slope will be protected with closed turfing to avoid any landslide occurs. 2.12 Allow surcharged minimum 1 .0m thick of extra fill as pre loading for about 3 months after the embankment completed. 2.13 After that the surcharge will be scrapped out from the embankment depends on R.E approval. 2.14 The slope will be protected with closed turfing to avoid any landslide occurs.
