DATA BASE
The E-Bid Electrical Estimating System data base consists of two major components, the material list, and the assembly list. Each one is discussed separately, as they are used for two different purposes. Natural descriptive terms in the electrical industry are used where possible, however some item descriptions exceed the maximum length allowed (7 characters) or are called different things by different estimators. The uniform approach throughout both data bases is no spaces are used and no special characters ("- ", &, ".", etc.) are included. Once the main concept has been understood and the codes of the main components of any project sorted out, looking up "codes" in the material list book should happen very seldom. "Help" is available at each code entry point, if unsure of codes (enter a probable first letter or two and press "F1"). If some material codes do not seem logical to you, they may be either cross referenced (with a second listing for an item referring to the existing code), or changed, using one of the programs included. To change a code requires many minutes for each change as the entire assembly data base and prompts list is checked.

M ATERIALS
The codes for standard items are listed under each main material type. Once the reasoning for each code and the similarity between similar items is understood, the codes become very easy to use. 1. 13. Cross References Are used when more than one term is used for a material (e.g. RGS and RIGID). A separate material has been set up for the second and/or third name with the description "see RIGID" and the size "SAMPLE". If further cross references are needed, use the same method (#51).

ASSEM BLIES
There are two main types of assemblies in the data file. The first series is the conduit and wire. Each one is complete with conduit, wire, couplings, connectors (at a ratio of two per one hundred feet for feeders and 6 per one hundred feet for branch circuit) straps, and a fastening allowance. Bends, special fittings, additional connectors, etc. are not included. The labour rates have been adjusted for slab or surface conduits. For exceedingly difficult or exceedingly easy installations, use the labour difficulty option when entering (by pressing "F3" just before the quantity is entered) and add the relevant factor as a percentage adjustment. All combinations are included up to twelve conductor on sizes 14, 12 and 10, and three and four wire for feeders up to 500mcm. In all Scepter or non metallic (ENT) conduits, a ground wire is automatically added. Conduits are sized according to the electrical code. A typical code would be "212XEE". This is explained as follows: 2 # of conductors 12 Wire size X type of insulation ("X"=XL, "T"=TWH, "A"=XLA, "E"empty) E type of conduit ("E"=EMT, "R"=Rigid, "S"=Scepter, "N"=ENT) E type of installation ("E"=exposed, "S"-slab) The second main assembly type is the "outlet" units. These are set up for typical commercial installation and include most outlets that would be found that can be "averaged". These must be used very carefully as the average length of wire for each is included. If the runs are exceedingly short or unusually long, add a separate line in the estimate with a plus or minus quantity of the relevant conductor. The base codes used are: 1. Devices receptacle REC single circuit RECSC isolated ground RECIG floor RECF split cct recept RECSP 20a receptacle REC20A switch SW three way SW3W
