MWH RESEARCH PAPER When I hit one of the US guys I feel that I have learned a true lesson (ihs child salve labor). You might think the quote is from a middle age foreign soldier. But actually the quote is from a small Iraqi boy named Mahmoud. Mahmoud is a soldier who is only a small child. Iraq has been recruiting child soldiers since the Iran-Iraq war. Saddam Hussein, the leader of Iraq has been recruiting child soldiers for many different reasons and not worrying about the after effect the children must face. The use of child soldiers in Iraq has affected the children and its exterior foes in wars. One major factor leading into the leading of child soldiers in Iraq is because of a movement that

occurred in Iraq. During the 1970s a movement called Futwah (Youth Vanguard) Movement aiming to create a paramilitary organization around secondary school children from the Baath Party which is a political party in Iraq (Peter Warren). With this movement that occurred in Iraq, more a more children are tried to become child soldiers. Another major factor leading into the use of Iraqi child soldiers is because of the lack of educational programs in Iraq (ihs child salve labor). With many children not going to schools or not getting educated gives the Iraqi government a chance to indoctrinate the children and use them as soldiers. Many causes of this event relate economically and politically. Another major factor to use of Iraqi child soldiers is because child soldiers are much cheaper

than soldiers that are 18 or above (ihs child salve labor). That gives the government much more breathing room to use soldiers without having to pay more. Another factor that was pushing towards

this event was because the use of child soldiers in Iraq was a common method for totalitarian regime to continue its militarizes society (Peter Warren). During the time period of the Iran-Iraq War or the Iraq War, it would make sense that a government like Iraq would follow a common method for totalitarian regime. Other causes are more towards military strategy and population Causes: One of the last causes of this event is that children are used in the military because are easy to

maneuver because of their lightweight (ihs child slave labor). Obviously, the Iraqi success in their military, and children are indeed lightweight, so it would make sense for the Iraqi government to force children into their military to reach success in battles. One last cause that leads to this even is because out of the 22 million citizens of Iraq, nearly the 11 million are citizens under the age of 18(Peter Warren). When youre under 18, youre classified as a child. Well the Iraqi government, see the 11 million children as potential forces, following with the lack of educational programs, cheaper recuriment, and easy maneuvers push the use of Iraqi child soldiers. If many of these causes never occurred, the children of Iraq could of have a much brighter future than they have now. The government wouldnt have had forced children to join the military; children would only join if they wanted to. The Iraqi government started using child soldiers in couple wars that were involved in. They started using children for combats since the Iran-Iraq War, Persian Gulf War and the Iraq War (ihs child salve labor). During that time, Saddam Hussein was in charge of the Iraq, so he is responsible for causing children to pick up arms and fight and he is in direct violation of international law of banning children to be recruited into the military (ihs child salve labor). Once the children are recruited from the government, the children under go training and

indoctrination from military style boot camps, the children learn how use weapons and the children get about 2 hours of training over the 40 days in the boot camps (Peter Warren). The Iraqi government also

With the scarce of educational supplies, not many children can go to school, which give a government a chance to indoctrinate these children and force them to serve them in the military. With the use of child soldiers, it helps the Iraq to redirect internal tension form external foes (ihs child salve labor). Since children are seen innocent, the enemy will not attack the children. .
