Course Website
https://ccle.ucla.edu/course/view.php?name=11F-PHYSICS1B-1 Homework solutions and other supplementary materials are posted to our 1B course website.

Textbook
Young and Freedman, University Physics, 12th edition or UCLA Custom edition. Vols. 1 and 2. We will cover Chs. 13, 15, 16, and 21-27.

Homework
A Mastering Physics subscription for online homework is required. Your homework solutions are entered online and immediately graded. The MP assignments are due each Monday night before midnight, with the exception of the last homework assignment which is due the last Friday of class before midnight. If you have a MP subscription already, enroll in my course with the Course ID P1BHALL75525. If you do not have a subsription, please view the instructions on our 1B course website for registering with Mastering Physics. A Mastering Physics subscription can be purchased with the textbook or purchased independently of the text from masteringphysics.com.

Grading
The nal course grade is curved, and nal letter grades are assigned at the end of the course. The grading scale as a function of percentage is as follows: A-(90-92), A(93-96), A+(97-100), B-(80-82), B(83-86), B+(87-89), C-(70-72), C(73-76), C+(77-79), D-(60-62), D(63-66), D+(67-69), F(below 60). The grading scale will be shifted (curved) to put the nal course average for all students at the C+/B- boundary, at the instructors discretion.

Homework contributes 10% of your nal grade, each of the two midterms give 20%, and the nal exam is worth 50% of your nal grade.

Exams
Midterm #1: Wednesday, October 19, 2011 in class. Midterm #2: Wednesday, November 16, 2011 in class. Final Exam: Friday, December 9, 2011, 8:00am-11:00am (location TBA). There are no make-up exams. If you miss a midterm for a justied reason, by presenting a doctors note or other evidence, the Final Exam is weighted more to account for the missing midterm. In case of missing the Final Exam, advance arrangements are required to earn an Incomplete Grade instead of a Failing Grade for the course. The exams are closed-book exams. Notecards with handwritten notes are allowed, and you can use a scientic calculator with graphing capabilities. One double-sided, 3x5 notecard is allowed for each Midterm, and two such notecards may be used for the Final Exam. Cheating is not tolerated, and work must be shown in calculations to receive full credit for the exams.
