ARGUMENTATIVE WRITING If the life was given to us, we can't decide to leave it

Plato. After some murders and tragedies that have involved innocent people (like Joo Hlios case or the Isabella Nardonis mysterious death), the Death Penalty returns to divide society opinion, especially because the murderers hardly-ever suffer the punishment deserved. This debate is hugely hard to get a conclusion considering that involves religious, ethical and moral aspects. Although lots of people think the capital penalty is the best solution to sweep the criminals away, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights says Everyone has the right to life, freedom from violence and personal safe. Everyone has the duty to support and sustain the life, longevity and liveability of all. It is often said that with the death penalty, the murders rate tend to decrease in the cities and it would inhibit futures crimes. However, the USAs example shows that deaths legalization is not a way to reduce crimes. In fact, this has not to be the goal of this controversial subject. The point must be the impunity and privileges which Law offers to bandits, causing the feeling that crime pays. Obviously, the death penalty just could inhibit murderers in case of premeditated murder. Secondly, some part of society argues that with this authorization, public costs related with jail would be minimized. This argument is partly true, but while the costs are reduced, the bureaucracy from the judgment until the punishment requires a long period of time. Moreover, as a discussion about life, economical aspect must be set aside. As many people say nobody has the right to take off anothers life. Perhaps it seems loaded with religious opinion, but only with a spiritualist vision we can make it hypothesis if theres a meaning to the universe and the life. If we consider the individual development as a sense to live, killing a person is preventing this development. The confinement should be faced as an opportunity for the criminal admitting the mistake, repenting and reforming itself. In reality, the focus should not be the death penalty, but the inhuman situation of the national prison system. We have to ask Which is the reason in confining a criminal?. The prison system has to supply a confinement to renew the person, isolating it socially in order to avoid that this person commits criminal acts again. Besides, it must be correctional, causing a change in the person so that she leaves the crime option and can be useful to society. Through the capital punishment, there is no full awareness of evil committed. It is impossible to change a bad person for better dealing it with contempt, as the national prison system shows. The prisoners inhuman conditions make the jails into

true schools of crimes, instead of schools of citizenship. They should supply jobs, social and artistic activities. In short, who support the death penalty probably, unaware, has this view because of the regrettable outcome of our prison system. With some reason, lots of people think the prisoners will be free worse than when they had been arrested. Plainly, the problems source is the social misery. In the same viewpoint is the low quality of public education. Reducing these, crimes will tend to fall. Not only does prison system need a total reform but also the State structure and social awareness in general.
