Below is a list of configurable parameters and the steps to set the TCP/IP parameters using
the front control panel for each family of printers.
NOTE: Some models, such as the Designjet 10ps, 20ps and 50ps printers, do not have the
ability to configure the print server using the front control panel. If any other model is
not listed in this document, it can be assumed that it does not have this ability.

Configurable TCP/IP parameters
The following basic TCP/IP parameters can be configured using the front control panel of the
printer. See the specific printer models headings below for the steps on how to change these.

NOTE: A delay of approximately 30 seconds may be expected between each step.
From the front control panel message, Ready or Ready to Plot, press ENTER.
2. Press the Up arrow key until I/O Setup appears, and then press ENTER.
3. Press the Up arrow key until Modular appears, and then press ENTER.
4. From the front control panel message, Cfg Network=No, press ENTER.
5. Press the Up arrow key to change to Yes, and then press ENTER.
6. Using the Arrow keys, scroll to Cfg TCP/IP=No appears, and then press ENTER.
7. Scroll to Yes, and press ENTER.
8. Press the Up arrow key until BootP=Yes appears, and press ENTER.
9. Press the Up arrow key to change to No. Press ENTER (When using BootP or DHCP,
keep the setting BOOTP = YES *. The BootP or DHCP server will configure the
TCP/IP parameters on the HP Jetdirect. No other TCP/IP configuring is necessary.
10. Press the UP arrow once to get to the IP byte section.
11. To change the IP byte, proceed as follows:
a. Press ENTER.
b. Press the Up or Down arrow key to change the number.
c. Press ENTER.
d. Press the Up key to continue to IP Byte2=xxx.
e. Press ENTER.
12. Configure the remaining bytes of the IP address in the same manner. A valid IP
address is required for proper operation.
13. Configure the subnet mask bytes (SM), syslog server IP address (LG), default
gateway (GW), and timeout (TIMEOUT) by pressing the ENTER and the Up or Down
arrows in the same manner as above. The timeout parameter default is 90 seconds.
Up to 3,600 seconds can be configured. If set to zero, the timeout feature of the HP
Jetdirect print server is disabled; TCP/IP connections will remain open until closed by
the server.
14. Press PREVIOUS repeatedly, until the Ready to Plot or Ready message appears.
Refer to the HP Jetdirect Network Interface Configuration Guide to configure the
network operating system.
15. Press the Up and Down arrow keys simultaneously to save the IP address on a
750/755 plotter. (A page should print and the IP addresses will be saved.)

From the Front Panel, use the arrow buttons to highlight the printer icon and press
ENTER.
2. Press the Up arrow key until I/O Setup appears. Press ENTER.
3. Press the Down arrow to Card Setup and press ENTER. Highlight Configuration, and
press ENTER.
4. From the Front Panel message of Cfg Network=No, press ENTER.
5. Press the Up arrow key to change to Yes. Press ENTER.
6. Press the Up arrow key until Cfg TCP/IP=No appears. Press ENTER.
7. Press the Up arrow key to change to Yes. Press ENTER.
8. Press the Up arrow until BOOTP=Yes appears. Press ENTER.
9. Press the Up arrow key to change to No. Press ENTER.

NOTE: If BOOTP=Yes, the printer is configured to retrieve its TCP/IP parameters over the
network from a BOOTP, RARP, or DHCP server. If BOOTP=NO, the printer is
configured to accept TCP/IP parameters from the Front Panel.
On HP Jetdirect print servers with firmware L.20.04 or greater, press the Up arrow key
to until DHCP=yes appears. Press ENTER.
11. Press the Up arrow key to change to No. Press ENTER.
12. Press the Up arrow key until IP Byte1=xxx appears.
13. To change the IP byte, proceed as follows:
a. Press ENTER.
b. Press the Up or Down arrow key to change the number.
c. Press ENTER.
d. Press the Up arrow key to continue to IP Byte2=xxx.
e. Press ENTER.
14. Configure the remaining bytes of the IP address in the same manner.
15. Configure the subnet mask bytes (SM), syslog server IP address (LG), default
gateway (GW), and timeout (TIMEOUT) in the same manner.

NOTE: When the HP Jetdirect print server is given a syslog server IP address, it can
generate syslog messages and send them to that. If no syslog server is on the
network, skip this setting.
The TIMEOUT parameter default is 90 seconds. Up to 3,600 seconds can be
configured. If set to "0," the timeout feature of the HP Jetdirect print server is disabled
-- TCP/IP connections will remain open until closed by the server.
17. To save this information:
a. Designjet 5000: Press the BACK button three times, then press the TOP
button to save the configuration.
b. Designjet 500 and 800: Press the BACK button four times and wait until the
Ready message is displayed.
c. Turn the printer off, then turn it on to refresh the new settings.
1. From the front control panel message of Ready, press the Down arrow key to
highlight the Setup Menu on the left side of the screen; the plotter icon will also
be highlighted on the right side of the screen. Press ENTER.
2. Press the Down arrow to Printer Information. Press ENTER.
3. Press the Down arrow to Print. Press ENTER.
Without the HP-GL/2 accessory card , the HP Designjet 500 will not produce a Service Print.
However, some Jetdirect information is available by viewing the control panel. Follow the steps
below to retrieve this information:
1. From the front control panel message of Ready highlight the printer icon.
Press ENTER.
2. Press the Down arrow to I/O Setup. Press ENTER
3. Highlight Card ID. Press ENTER. The following information is displayed.
o IP = xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
o Mask = xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
o GW =xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
o Ether = [12 character hardware address of the Jetdirect]
o FMW Rev =x.xx.xx [firmware version of the Jetdirect]
o IO Rev = x.x
NOTE: If other Jetdirect information is needed, the Jetdirect card can be moved to a
Designjet or LaserJet printer.
Configuring TCP/IP on the HP Designjet 1050c, 1050c Plus,
1055cm, or 1055cm Plus front control panel when using a
600n card

Press TOP, and press ENTER.
2. Press the Down arrow to I/O Setup. Press ENTER.
3. Highlight Network Card, and press ENTER.
4. Highlight Configuration, then press ENTER.
5. At Configure Network=NO, press ENTER.
6. Press the Up arrow to change to Configure Network=Yes, then press ENTER.
7. Press the Up arrow until the display reads CFG=TCP/IP NO, then press ENTER.
8. Press the Up arrow to change to Configure TCP/IP=YES, then press ENTER.
9. Press the Up arrow to BootP=YES, then press ENTER.
10. Press the Up arrow to change to BootP=NO, then press ENTER.
11. Press the Up arrow until IP Byte1=xxx appears.
12. To change the IP byte (the first octet of the IP address), proceed as follows:
a. Press ENTER. The top of the display will read, Active Option.
b. Press the Up or Down arrow to change the number.
c. Press ENTER.
d. Press the Up key to continue to IP Byte2=xxx.
13. Configure the subnet mask bytes (SM Byte), syslog server IP address (LG Byte),
default gateway (GW Byte), and timeout (TIMEOUT) in the same manner (Press
ENTER to make the display read, Active Option, press the Up or Down arrows to
change the octet of the IP address, then press ENTER).

NOTE: The syslog server IP (LG Byte) is used only if there is a syslog server on the
network. A syslog server is one that receives log messages from the HP Jetdirect
print server.
Press the BACK button repeatedly until the display reads, Ready . This will save the
TCP/IP addresses.

Press TOP, and press ENTER.
2. Press the Down Arrow to I/O Setup. Press ENTER.
3. Highlight Network Card, and press ENTER.
4. Highlight Configuration, then press ENTER.
5. At Configure Network=NO, press ENTER.
6. Press the Up arrow to change to Configure Network=Yes, then press ENTER.
7. Press the Up arrow until the display reads Configure=TCP/IP NO, then press ENTER.
8. Press the Up arrow to change to Configure TCP/IP=YES, then press ENTER.
9. Press the Up arrow to BootP=YES, then press ENTER.
10. Press the Up arrow to change to BootP=NO, then press ENTER.
11. Press the Up arrow to DHCP=YES, then press ENTER.
12. Press the Up arrow to change to DHCP=NO, then press ENTER.
13. Press the Up arrow until IP Byte1=xxx appears.
14. To change the IP byte (the first octet of the IP address), proceed as follows:
a. Press ENTER. The top of the display will read, Active Option.
b. Press the Up or Down arrow to change the number.
c. Press ENTER.
d. Press the Up key to continue to IP Byte2=xxx.
15. Configure the subnet mask bytes (SM Byte), syslog server IP address (LG Byte),
default gateway (GW Byte), and timeout (TIMEOUT) in the same manner (Press
ENTER to make the display read, Active Option, press the Up or Down arrows to
change the octet of the IP address, then press ENTER).

TCP/IP addresses.
1. Press the TOP button and highlight the printer icon on the front control panel, then
press ENTER.
2. Press the Up or Down arrow to Utilities, then press ENTER.
3. Press the Up or Down arrow to Test Prints, then press ENTER.
4. Press the Up or Down arrow to Service Config, then press ENTER.
The following two steps apply to the HP Jetdirect 610n cards only:
a. DHCP=YES appears.
b. Press the PLUS or VALUE button until DHCP = NO appears.

NOTE: When using DHCP, keep the setting DHCP = YES *. The DHCP server will configure
the TCP/IP parameters on the HP Jetdirect. No other TCP/IP configuring is
necessary.
Press SELECT or RESUME.
12. Press ITEM until IP BYTE 1 = (value*) appears.
13. Press the PLUS button or VALUE, until the desired value of the first byte of the IP
address appears. By pressing and holding the PLUS button or VALUE, the value will
scroll.
14. Press SELECT or RESUME to save the value.
15. Press ITEM to continue. Repeat Steps 11-13 to configure the remaining bytes of the
IP address.
16. Repeat Steps 11-13 to configure the subnet mask bytes (SM BYTE 1=), syslog server
IP address (LG BYTE 1=), default gateway (GW BYTE 1=), and timeout (TIMEOUT=).
17. Press ONLINE, GO or MENU. Print a self-test page to verify the IP settings.
18. If the test page does not show the correct settings, power cycle the printer and reprint
the test page.
