Extensive competence
Mercks demanding quality standards apply not only to the reagents themselves but also to the containers they are supplied in; each container being carefully matched to its product. When developing our container systems, we pay close attention to customers requirements and, for high-volume orders, we offer a number of options to optimize usage. The following usage levels illustrate this point:
more than 100 liters per year more than 300 liters per year more than 200 liters per month 10-liter drum 10-liter barrel 25-liter drum 30-liter barrel 190-liter drum 185-liter barrel
Utilizing this system, Mercks target cycle time of 6 weeks for returnable containers is easily achieved. Merck arranges for empty containers to be collected free of charge. You incur no additional charges for cleaning or disposal of containers. The collection arrangements are stipulated in Mercks offer to its customers.
Returnable stainless steel drums Merck employs returnable stainless steel drums of 10, 25 and 190-liter capacity for its GR for analysis and extra pure solvents as well as those with a pharmacopoeia specification. Returnable stainless steel barrels Returnable stainless steel barrels of 10, 30 and 185-liter capacity are employed for Mercks high purity solvents: LiChrosolv, Prepsolv, SupraSolv, UniSolv, Uvasol and SeccoSolv. The barrels meet stringent safety standards and are: approved as individual shipment containers for dangerous goods engraved with an ID number for full traceability and documentation
Returnable stainless steel bulk containers We provide containers in a range of sizes from 400 liters to 1400 liters, as well as tank containers. All of our stainless steel containers have special properties that offer numerous added benefits: can be pressurized to higher pressures closed system (containers with integrated dip tube) greater product safety can be directly connected to production equipment
Safe withdrawal
Merck withdrawal systems include all the relevant safety features self-closing nozzles, pressure relief mechanisms and anti-static devices. In addition, the way in which the withdrawal systems are perfectly matched to the various containers and to the special needs of certain grades of solvent, ensures that withdrawal occurs with zero solvent contamination. For example, we also supply dried SeccoSolv solvents in barrels featuring an integrated dip tube. By using the appropriate withdrawal system, it is possible to prevent the solvent from becoming contaminated with moisture from the atmosphere. These specially tailored systems safeguard solvent quality and keep your analyses safe and dependable.
Cost-effective usage
The various ways in which individual components can be combined helps you to optimize your work processes. Where large volumes of solvent are turned around, delivery from a central safety cabinet to the point of use (e.g. laboratory fume hood) through a permanent supply circuit is the most rational way of working.
Safety information
The following safety information applies to all the withdrawal systems depicted: The stainless steel container must be properly grounded when flammable solvents are being withdrawn (Static Electricity regulations ZH 1/200). When pressurizing containers, use only inert gas with max. 0.2 bar. (Regulations for Laboratories ZH 1/119). When pressurizing containers from a gas feed, always build a pressure safety device (9.67100.9004) into the spiral gas line (9.67100.9051). When nitrogen is drawn from a central gas feed in a building, always use a reducing valve (Art. 9.67100.9000) to ensure that the pressure is set to 0.2 bar. Only unbreakable containers of up to 10 liters capacity may be used in laboratories (Regulations for Laboratories ZH 1/119). Wear safety glasses when withdrawing contents. As the last drops of liquid are being extracted, splashing may occur. Always make sure that the delivery tube or nozzle reaches well into the container or equipment being filled. Always follow general laboratory safety rules.
Handling Connect the withdrawal system coupling head as described in the instructions. Create an overpressure (max. 0.2 bar) in the container and withdraw solvent by actuating the nozzle. Benefits Pre-installed dip tube as fixed part of the barrel Rapid-action connectors Easy to use Contamination-free withdrawal of high purity solvents is possible No contamination from laboratory air/atmospheric humidity No contact with oxygen in the air
