How to Runnsanity tool

nSANity is used to collect data from switches, hosts, and storage systems. Its common that if we raise a case to netapp for any snapmanager issue they will be asking the out put of nSanity diagnostic tool.

The nSANity Data Collector is a support tool designed to aid users and Technical Support in troubleshooting complex SAN issues. nSANity is able to Collect diagnostic and configuration data from a variety of components including: Data ONTAP storage controllers Windows 2003 and 2008 hosts VMware ESX hosts (excluding I variants) Linux hosts with kernel 2.6 Solaris hosts AIX hosts HP-UX 11i hosts Brocade switches McData switches (EOS, EOSn) Cisco switches (IOS, NXOS and SANOS) Qlogic switches

nSanity tool already available in sgnetapp C: drive and on few prod server like polisquib,sgcaliban etc. If you are not find this tool under C drive you can download from bellow link and copy to over there. http://now.netapp.com/NOW/download/tools/nsanity/ nSanity have different option , run with correct option instructed by NetApp engg Example 1 If netappEnggs says collect nsanityfor only for snapmanager the you have to use bellow option

When collecting the logs from the Windows Servers please use the S snapmanager scope, as follows:

nsanity S snapmanager windows://[[domain|host\]username[:password | *]@]windows_server e.g: - C:\nsanity -S snapmanager windows://netappadm:P@****@sgnetapp -f <filename>

Example 2: When Netapp engineer asked to collect nsanity for ontap you have to use following option and run from sgnetapp host Syntax :

ontap://username:password@hostname -f <filename> e.g : c:\> nsanity.exe ontap://root:P@***@sinvnet3.dc.capitaland.com -f <filename->

note: always create filename with case number in it

Example 3:-

When NetappEngg asked to collect nsanity data from server Then you have to log to that particular server run the tool .if tool not there you have to install the tool. Syntax: Windows://[[domain|host\]username[:password | *]@]windows_server

e.g: C:\>nsanity.exe windows://dc\abhilash:pass***@polisquib.dc.capitaland.com -f <filename>

Once you collect this data it will be available in your same directory from where you run the nsanity.exe. Make nsanity toll run propery and out put generated as .xml file. Copy the file to your control pc or to your local desktop Upload to netapp using following process

How to upload core file or file to netapp

DIRECTIONS FOR UPLOADING FILES VIA FTP: The filename must contain the case number. Example: for case #2139999, create a single zip file named: 2139999.original_filename.zip or 2139999.original_filename.gz

1. ftp ftp.netapp.com or ftp ftp-europe.netapp.com 2. login: anonymous 3. password: [valid-email-address] ---->>>>>>> when it promt for passwd give your email id 4. cd to-ntap 5. bi to transfer file in binary mode 6. hash to display hash marks while file downloads 7. put case#.original_filename.* to transfer file Alternatively, you can go to http://upload.netapp.com and upload the file via HTTP or HTTPS if outgoing FTP access is restricted from your location.

Once uploaded the file to netapp sent an email to case owner saying we have uploaded the requested data. If you are not getting his confirmation call his direct extn .( options 1 and 9 the his extn number) and confirm for the same.
