The EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) valve is an


emission control device designed to reduce NOx
(carbon monoxide) emissions to help meet
increasingly stringent emissions regulations in
North America. At Celtic Tuning we have EGR
Delete and EGR bypass software that is designed
to eliminate the functionality of the EGR valve and
assure the customer that it eliminates the
operating problems associated with these devices.

How the EGR valve works:


*The EGR valve creates a loop back from the
exhaust manifold to the intake manifold to
recirculate burned gases.
*The EGR valve has a solenoid that controls the
valve which in turn is controlled by the ECM
(module).
*The ECM (module) actuates the solenoid using a
duty request cycle to open the valve and re-
circulate the burned gases.
The manifold absolute pressure sensor (minifold) is
then used to record the amount of additional gas
that is subsequently fed to the ECM as a control
measurement.

What problems does it cause:


As the EGR valve is constantly working with
naturally burning exhaust gases it has a high soot
content. This soot in the gases causes a buildup of
carbon deposits around the valve operating area,
which in turn causes the valve to have a tendency
to stick in various positions.
For full engine performance, the EGR valve is
closed, which creates a closed-loop environment
for the turbo system that allows it to pressurize.
A problematic EGR can create an open loop
environment for the turbo as it provides feedback
directly to the intake manifold and as a result can
cause boost problems along with huge power
losses and losses in Diesel performance!
