Bits and Pieces of Info to Make Life on the Ranch Easier to Manage

October 7, 2011
Whats Happening Around Town My, how the time flies! We had a busy week in kindergarten with vision screening and school pictures in addition to our regular routine of lessons! I want to take the opportunity to share a little about some of our activities and lessons! Each week, as we work on 6+1 Traits of Writing, we will read one of Eric Carles books. The goal is to introduce students to great literature while building their reading and writing skills. So far this year we have read and . The students have also learned the sign language for all the colors and animals in the books! If you pick up a copy of the books, you will probably enjoy listening to your child give a great retelling of the story! This week we also worked on blend ladders t, l, n, m, b, and h. We are beginning to add final consonants to our blends to make words (i.e. ma, mat), and the kids are really enjoying it! What a thrill to be able to read words! Arent you glad the infinite God cares enough about us that He communicates with us? Please continue to review short vowel sounds with your child, and practice sounding out words using the blends they have already learned! I want to wrap up with a reminder that conferences will be held on Thursday and Friday, October 27th and 28th. If you have not already done so, please sign up on the sheets outside of our room. Conferences are a great time of sharing together about the progress your child has made and areas in which he or she can continue to grow. More information about conferences as well as a list of questions you may wish to pose to me concerning your child will be coming home soon! Thanks for your encouragement and support! Miss Hult Answers to Questions on the Ranch A: Yes, though the details have not been confirmed, we plan on taking a field trip in November. We will stay in the Ankeny area, and I will get more information to you in the coming weeks as to the exact details of our trip! I am also looking into a short service project type of trip to a nursing home at the beginning of December. So, please continue to watch for further information.

A: The auction is one of the largest fundraisers for ACA, and it will be held Saturday, October 29th. The silent auction begins at 5 p.m. Followed by the dinner at 6 p.m. and the live auction at 6:45 p.m. Tickets for the dinner are available for $20 per adult plate and $10 per child plate or one table for eight guests at $150. Each ACA family is asked to contribute in some way to the auction, so if you have not yet donated to our class basket, please feel free to give a cash donation to purchase a few final items or pick something up this weekend to add to the basket. We are approaching the due date to have our basket put together, so please consider contributing an item or money by Friday of this next week!

A: PTF will be selling ice cream this Friday, October 14th. If you would like your child to have the opportunity to purchase ice cream, please send $1 with your child on Friday morning. I will collect money and keep it until lunch! Ice cream Fridays are so much fun!

A Bible Course Map for the Upcoming Week - (God Calls Abram - Gen. 11:27-32; 12:1-20) God chose Abram, a man who worshiped and obeyed Him, to make a promise to bless the whole world with the gift of the Savior. He called Abram and his wife Sarai to leave the city in which they lived among people worshipping other gods, and he led them to the promise land. Despite his fears, Abram obeyed God completely. - (Lot Chooses the Best Land - Gen. 13:5-11) God blessed Abram with great wealth, and Abrams nephew, Lot, also had many possessions. They had so many animals, their servants began to argue over pasture land, so Abram decided to allow Lot to choose the land he would like to own. Lot selfishly chose the best land where he thought he would have the nicest place to live, but he ignored the fact it was right next to Sodom and Gormorrah. His decision had big consequences in the future! - (Chapel discussion.) - (Review of previous lesson.) - (God Promises a Son - Gen. 13:12-18; 15:5-6; 16:1-4) After Abram and Lot parted company, God promised Abram a son and descendants that outnumber the stars in heaven. God changed his name from Abram (High Father) to Abraham (Father of Many Nations). God has awesome plans for our lives; we must trust and obey completely!
